"Caligdumbass missing out is a big blow?! lmao!! Seriously, why do people think he's a good footballer?! He's shyte!! Overrated as hell!! So overrated that people thinking he's a good player is proof in itself that most people in the Philippines don't really understand the sport!" No respect at all. I wonder what Chiefy did to Brimstone. I agree with cjeagle, stuff like that doesn't deserve a spot here. However I would have loved to see Brimstone's objective thoughts on why he thinks Chiefy doesn't deserve to be in the NT. I also agree re 'best players should play', and this is what Coach Dooley is all about. The National team candidates including the "safe" players in it will now understand the deeper meaning of "competition", like they've never known before. Isa pa tong tanga! Ngsasabi sa sarili nya football guro ka! Respect dito pre! Ungas!

Azkals look to impress 'knowledgeable' Dooley The Philippine national football team has started preparing for the 2014 AFC Challenge Cup, and the members of the 34-man training pool are working to impress new Azkals head coach Thomas Dooley. “It went well, a lot of players here wanting to impress. It’s great,” said Azkals mainstay James Younghusband. Both James and Phil Younghusband as well as former national team skipper Aly Borromeo had good words about Dooley, who replaced German coach Michael Weiss earlier this month. “He’s been very transparent with the group,” said James. “We had lunch before training, and he gave us a PowerPoint presentation to explain his plan, so it’s good that he has a plan.” “He just wants us to play simple football, which is good, because it’s something that I was taught as a young boy when I was training in the UK. Simplicity is genius, and all the best players in the world keep it simple,” he added. Phil said the national team players were excited to begin working with Dooley. “Mabait siya, and alam niya, he has the knowledge and he knows what he’s talking about,” he said. “He knows what he wants and he knows how he wants the team to play.” Borromeo, back in the training pool after recovering from an injury, said Dooley got along well with the players. “Ang okay sa kaniya, he knows what to do right away with the team,” said Borromeo. “(He wants an) attacking style of play, he wants to win the ball back in four or five seconds. So there’s already that technique that you have, so it’s good.” “He’s got good vision for the Challenge Cup, and we’re all excited,” he added. Dooley, for his part, has stressed that preparing for the Challenge Cup will be a step-by-step process, and expects that it will take a few training sessions before the Azkals adjust to his training style as well as the new drills that he introduced to the team. “It takes a while so there will be some mistakes,” he said. The Azkals will play Afghanistan, Laos and Turkmenistan in the group round of the AFC Challenge Cup in May. Prior to the tournament, they will play friendlies against Malaysia and Azerbaijan. www.abs-cbnnews.com/sports/02/18/14/azkals-look-impress-knowledgeable-dooleyNice article on the competition going on in training camp. It is as it should be. It is good that Dooley is getting the respect of all the players. It is nice to have a knowledgeable coach in place.

I guess I was wrong. Al Borromeo has joined the training sessions after all even though he is not part of the list of invited players. www.abs-cbnnews.com/sports/02/18/14/azkals-begin-training-afc-challenge-cupA mix of old and new players took part in the first training session held at the Emperador Stadium, with former skipper Aly Borromeo making his return to the team after an injury. “I’m back to training with the guys. I joined them in the warm-ups and drills, passing drills and stuff, but no contact (exercises) yet,” Borromeo said. “Obviously everything is new. The drills that we do are new, the passing exercise,” Dooley said. “It takes a while, so there will be some mistakes. They need to adjust to the training style that I have. I want everything fluid and everything quick, so it takes a while.” Dooley said he wants to observe every player first – including the Azkals based abroad – before naming the team that he will bring to the Challenge Cup in May. “Of course, I want to see everybody, I want to talk to everybody individually,” he said. “I have a couple more weeks to see what we have over here, who wants to be there, and how good they are to help the team to be successful.”

www.sunstar.com.ph/bacolod/sports/2014/02/19/phl-azkals-calls-3-negrense-booters-329126By Henry G. Doble Wednesday, February 19, 2014 NEWLY-APPOINTED Philippine football men’s team and Azkals head coach Thomas Dooley called up three Negrenses to join the 34 home-based players in the national training pool in preparation for the AFC Challenge Cup in Maldives this coming May. Veteran keeper Eduard Sacapaño of Bago City, defender Reymark Fernandez of Victorias City, and midfielder Niel Ryan Lirio of San Carlos City will join other well-known Filipino-foreigner mainstays of Azkals. Goalie Sacapano is a holdover from the present Azkals roster while Green Archers United FC defender Fernandez was a member of the national team U23 during the 2011 Southeast Asian Games. Current Philippine Air Force wingman Lirio has suited up with Negros Occidental Football Association-Ceres which won the 2011 PFF-Suzuki U23 National Cup. Lirio and Sacapaño are products of multi-titled West Negros University Mustangs under former national men’s team mentor and standout Norman Fegidero Jr. Fernandez also played for the defending NOFA-Ceres team during the 2013 PFF-Suzuki U23 National Cup. to be honest, i am one of the few here who criticized Caligdong's actions on field or off field, especially when he pointed out that he's the only pure filipino in the starting XI. and also it's not acceptable calling his own teammates a european/foreigner, that's not acceptable especially if you are the captain of the team. remember when he had a feud against Sabio and Porteria before. it's very uncharacteristic for the long time member of the team. but he deserves a second chance under Dooleys perspective. if he don't pass the criteria of the new management, then we have to thank him for the service and pride he gave to us

I'm one who's not expecting a win at this point. But that would be acceptable with all the changes in the team. I forgot who mentioned it but I'm in agreement that what I'm looking for is a visibly different philosophy on the pitch that is at least being tried and tested in this friendly. Malaysia's still a tough team and will be a decent test for our locally-based players. Still, while I'm not expecting a win, it's not beyond the team's grasp to get the "W" either. Whatever. I'm just happy that we'll be able to see the National Team in action again. Haha
