Now that we are officially out of the Suzuki Cup, I want to bring up a few questions for discussion 1) How do you think the Azkals can capitalize on their new-found fame? Aside from showbiz appearances for the Younghusbands, haha. Friendly showcase matches for the fans, to earn some funds for the team? Campaigns for new stadia to be build, or current ones to be improved? 2)When's the next set of fixtures for the national team? Hopefully there will be one more tournament within the next year, so that they can ride the momentum from this performance. 3) May official resource or contact person ba ang Azkals? Or is this forum and the facebook group and the (under construction) fansite the closest thing we have to an official resource? Malaking tulong kung may ganun, para yung mga fans na magsesearch for info about the team after this, may mahahanap agad. Also, it would be nice if anyone knew the contact details of any staff member of the team, para pwede tayo magpadala ng congratulatory messages

Personally I hope they don't get into showbiz. The Younghusbands ventured into that a few years ago, and it ruined their football careers. Showbiz is nothing but a distraction - and it applies not only to our footballers, but to every footballer. We all know what fame did to David Beckham. We don't want any of our players right now to get big headed. We need them to concentrate on the game. Give them coverage, ask them interviews, give them endorsements, but with the focus as football.
There's an upcoming Manila Invitational, so that should be next for our boys. But I reckon most of them will be back in their respective European countries, so expect most of our foreign players to be gone.
I have 'contact details' for a few staff members, but I'm allowed to pass them on.

We go up against Mongolia in February in a home and away series for the AFC Challenge Cup. The start of a long road. Defending champ there is North Korea, World Cup qualifiers!
This is only the beginning, Azkaleros! ;D

A few things to sort out:
1) Philippine Football Leadership
2) Financial Support
3) Team Management
etc, etc...

The AFC Challenge Cup
Playoffs (February 9 and 16, 2011)
Playoff 1: Bhutan vs Afghanistan Playoff 2: Philippines vs Mongolia Playoff 3: Chinese Taipei vs Laos Playoff 4: Cambodia vs Macau
GROUP STAGE (March 20-31, 2011)
Group A: Myanmar, Palestine, Bangladesh, Winner of Playoff 2 Group B: Turkmenistan, India, Winner of Playoff 3, Pakistan Group C: Tajikistan, Maldives, Winner of Playoff 4, Kyrgyzstan Group D: North Korea, Winner of Playoff 1, Nepal, Sri Lanka
You have to remember that just before the AFF Suzuki Cup the teams above are the ones we were competitive with. With a ranking so low the Azkals have to play in the qualifying stage before even getting to the group stage where countries like Nepal and Bangladesh already qualified. The only good thing about this qualification process is that we get to see a home game, even if it's with Mongolia!
The goal here is to make it past the group stage. If we can't get past the group stage it means we haven't completely turned around the program yet.

The AFC Challenge Cup gives us a lot of Azkals action in 2011. And we get a home game! I just hope the whole team can make it.

Unfortunately, with what the boys are making, especially if they are not affiliated with a team, the showbiz distraction may be a need. The reality is that they have to make a living and pay the bills. Endorsements are a good, however, because not as much time is required. I hope they get enough of these so that they won't have to sing themselves silly in the noontime variety shows. With the amount of exposure they're getting I would be surprised if they DIDN'T get endorsements.

I'm looking forward to the AFC Challenge Cup. The Azkals have gained precious experience from the Suzuki Cup and the team have time to prepare and to improve their game some more. Maybe coach Simon will inject more offensive plays to the current system. Also, hopefully our Fil-German reinforcements (Mark, Stephan, and Manny) will be cleared to join the team then and for Chad Gould to be able to join them as well so the Azkals will have one more options in front and in the middle.

Greetings from the Great State of Texas. This is my first post.
I'm happy with the way things turned out. It may have been a loss in the Suzuki Cup, but the serious exposure to the sport in the Philippines can only do good things. Whoever is in control over there needs to keep the exposure up. Just like any good or service, the game of Football needs to be marketed and promoted, from the grassroots on up to the corporations.
I'm ready to provide my support financially, by purchasing Phillippine Football goods and making donations to honest football organizations.
Once you get the support of the people, through hearts and minds campaigns of the sport of Football, everything else will fall right into place.
I'm hoping the people of Filipino ancestry around the world, who play football, will see this spark occurring in the Philippines, and will want to "be part of something special". <-- Kinda sounds like the beginnings of a marketing campaign slogan. he he.
Anyhow...that's my 2 cents. I'm glad to be part of this board. Hopefully it will continue to grow. I'll definitely tell my friends about it. ;D

Im sure we can win against Mongolia, PFF sent a letter to Mongolia if they can play both legs here in Philippines coz its dead smuck winter in Mongolia during the game, not to mention the elevation. No replies yet from Mongolia. If we get past mongolia, we are going to meet Myanmar again, we can win that group to.

And greetings from the snow-deep winter in the US Midwest!
I hope the players don't have to get into showbiz just to get money to pay the bills. Endorsements might be unavoidable at this point, but no movies or tv series please! Concentrate on the game, on improving, on - dare I say it? - winning. With the games coming up in February, there's little time to train, much less get into showbiz. As one of the YH brothers said: no showbiz, puro tsismis. What a waste of energy for them to get embroiled in gossip. Might as well use the energy to train and prepare for the games!
I also hope we get more support for the Azkals. More fans, which might lead to more football programs - which might lead to an actuall football stadium - AND maybe a league system in the country? That would be awesome!

Let's buy Vuvuzela at Toy Kingdom. Only 99 pesos, and blow our horns in the next home game, hehe!

Fine line between showbiz and sports please. Filmmakers, media people, big producers, please stay away from our football players. Not that they will say yes anyway. But we don't need a new pool of "athletes-gone-kaput". Don't worry though, we have lots of good looking basketball stars. Drool on Chris Tiu instead. We don't need him anyway.
Friendlies might work. To boost football craze. Also it will rake in revenues. But that's about it. If we intend to move up in ranking, go out there and lambaste the other Asian teams.
Of course. The new president of PFF must increase football alleviation efforts here in the country. A decent stadium is what we need.

That would be awesome! many from media always ask them to enter showbiz firm coz of their physical or good looking.... I hope our Azkals team will not get affected of the media to enter the showbiz because of money and I agree with Illustria that they would have to focus their career as what they have and do more improvements of their skills that could lambaste our opponent team in this coming February 9, 2011 if the government give us the decent stadium and the other private sectors support our RP Football Team with the help of PFF league program, i think that's only way we can boost our football craze....... I forget one more thing,,,,,,,, the PFF also give more attention our local leagues so that we can easily identify whose among players are more qualified and tangible to win the tournament.....
