The Philippine Football Federation announced today the 22-man squad ahead of the upcoming 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifier match against DPR Korea on October 8, 2015. Veteran defender Rob Gier makes his return to the squad after missing the Uzbekistan match because of a knee injury. Gier injured his knee during the World Cup Qualifiers win against Bahrain last June. Forward Javier Patiño and defender Juani Guirado are absent from the squad for the upcoming match. Patiño, who plays for Henan Jianye in the Chinese Super League, picked up an injury during a match against Changchun Yatai. Guirado, on the other hand, is in Spain to attend to his pregnant wife, who is due to give birth soon. The Azkals squad includes Amani Aguinaldo, Misagh Bahadoran, Paolo Bugas, Kenshiro Daniels, Patrick Deyto, Neil Etherdige, Kevin Ingreso, Jerry Lucena, Paul Mulders, Roland Muller, Manny Ott, Stephan Palla, OJ Porteria, Iain Ramsay, Patrick Reichelt, Daisuke Sato, Stephan Schrock, Martin Steuble, Dennis Villanueva, Luke Woodland, and Phil Younghusband. Some members of the squad are already in Manila, including overseas-based Palla, Ramsey, and Woodland. Members of Global FC are currently in Singapore for their semifinal matches in the RHB Singapore Cup. The Azkals will fly to Beijing, China, and then to Pyongyang, North Korea next week to face DPR Korea on October 8. Overseas players who still have ongoing club commitments will meet the team in China. After the match in Pyongyang, the Azkals will head to Manama to face Bahrain on October 13. football.com.ph/pff-announce-22-man-squad-for-dpr-korea-match/Muller is in town already also.

Kevin Ingreso showed some promise in the game against Uzbekistan, and with Patino out, he may see additional minutes in the game against North Korea ...

Dyan Castillejo posted a picture of an interview with Muller and Misagh while guesting on Sports U on Sep 24. He must have gone back to his team after that.

Many of the players have now arrived in Pyongyang. CPT Inquirer Sports @cedelfpt 8h8 hours ago Azkals arrived in Pyongyang around 4 p.m. local time(3:30 p.m. in Manila). Nice, cool weather here.Team staying at Hotel Koryo. sports.inquirer.net/195569/azkals-make-their-long-journey-to-north-korea#st_refDomain=t.co&st_refQuery=/ARyRCTjx4fPhil Younghusband admitted that time won’t be on the Philippine team’s side as the Azkals make their long journey to Pyongyang to play powerhouse North Korea in a World Cup Qualifying match. “Everyone’s excited but we’re also aware that we won’t have much time to train,” Younghusband said on Monday in a video taken by Philippine Daily Inquirer’s Cedelf Tupas, who’s traveling with the team. “Our trip’s 10 days but we’ll be travelling for a lot of that and we may only have four training sessions and then we got two games so it’s a bit of a challenge but we’re also excited,” added Younghusband. Younghusband also expressed his delight in seeing the team come together during its layover in Beijing before finally heading to Pyongyang. Manila-based Azkals linked up with their foreign-based standouts along with goalkeeping coach Pascal Zuberbühler in Beijing after nearly a three-hour flight from Manila to Bangkok and another four-hour flight going to the Chinese capital for a six-hour layover. “It’s good to see everyone come together. [Seeing] all the guys from Europe. [It] feels like a team now.”
