I am sorry badleftfoot, but there is even less funding for any of the women's team. The women's senior team hasn't even played in over a year. I know for a fact that if we include all the eligible women's players here in North America, we would be a power in Asia probably next only to China but there is no funding. The women's players here are willing to come and even though some of them were not reimbursed for their expenses for joining the team in the past, they are still willing to do it again. Basically you need to have a team manager for any of the teams that is deep pocketed in order to field a team. If you know of any eligible male players in college or high school who would like to play for the team, there are going to be trials in the US in the West Coast(San Francisco Bay area) and possibly in the East Coast sometime in April.

Hi badleftfoot, If you are like me you wil agree that playing for your country is a huge honor. That being said I would recommend keeping your girls home and training with their teams. They will get better training, practice, and competition in the US. The PFF would prefer local RP players get the training and competition because they know the local players will never really develop at their clubs or schools and this gives them the chance to give the top local players a higher level of competitiion. Let your daughters take advantage of the fact that they live in a country where girl's football is appreciated and supported. If they come over at this young age and see how little respect there is for women's football they might never come back.

It appears that they are forming an U-19 for the AFF Youth Championship to be held on September 2011 in Myanmar: www.facebook.com/home.php?sk=group_132581586802304&view=doc&id=150060111721118OPEN TRY-OUTS FOR THE PHILIPPINE NATIONAL U19 MEN’S FOOTBALL TEAMUPDATE: Please bring a copy of your birth certificate, valid ID (with birthdate), passport (if available) and 4 passport size photos. The Philippine Football Federation is pleased to announce that preparations for the upcoming ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) U19 Youth Championship to be held on September 2011 in Myanmar shall start this coming March. This preparation constitutes the kick-off for future activities of the said team and the basis for selection of players for the National U23 and senior teams for the next years. The purpose of the technical staff is to select the best U19 players in the country; therefore we are interested in players born on or after 01 January 1993 to attend the try-outs for possible inclusion in the Philippine National U19 Men’s Football Team. Yes, I have read that the PFF has decided to concentrate on the AFF(SEA) competitions first and not participate at the Asian continental level at this time. I guess we have to respect their decision since they can only afford one competition at a time per age group. I was hoping that they would use the AFF competition as a tuneup competition prior to the AFC one but they felt they didn't want to get overwhelmed by the stronger competition at the AFC. Personally what I would have done is apply for the AFC competition, see how we do at the AFF level and if we do poorly withdraw from the AFC competition. It would be a shame if we do well at the AFF level and not have the option of sending the same team to the AFC.

macduff and cjeagle ... salamat sa feedback. pilipino blood runs through my veins. my daughters are all pure-blooded pinays. their nanay at tatay are both pinoy. back in my college days, i played varsity soccer in pinas with someone with is actually connected right now with the men' national team. the pride (and hope) to represent the country is always there, and we (that former teammate and also good friend, and I ) have talked about me bringing my 2 kids back home to join the U16 team. what i am seeing though, is a murky picture. even the women's team monicker is 'undesirable' to me ... MALDITAS ... what in da world? in cebu fa website, I read a nasty exchange of post between the u16 women's team coach and a web poster a while back... so yeah, i'd probably keep them here for NOW.

Badleftfoot
I didn't say that you shouldn't do it. It is an honor to play for the national team. Jason Sabio just now decided to take a leave of absence from his law studies so he can play for the Azkals for a year. I would have done the same in his situation. Grad school will always be there and your playing career is limited. The problem is they don't always have funding for the women's and girl's teams including preparation. You probably will have to bring the girls on your own expense. I don't really know the conditions that macduff mentioned above though so you might want to research that.,

badleftfoot, What you should do is take steps to get your daughters their Filipino passports. If you lost your citizenship by becoming a US citizen, you can regain your RP citizenship and include your daughters in your application. You do not need to go to the Philippines to do this. You just need to go to the nearest RP consulate. You may be able to find the forms online. You will need a "long form" birth certificate showing the names of the parents. You will also need your birth certificate and their mother's. You entire family can then become citizens again. After your children turn 18 it becomes much more complicated for them to get passports. If you are going over to Manila with your daughters, have them bring their shoes and shin pads, because there may be an opportunity for them to be seen. The national team program has a history of saying they will enter a tournament only to withdraw, so making a special trip just for a try out could lead to frustration. The youth teams are mostly funded by the parents so be prepared to spend. Good luck. start working on those passports.

Well technically acc. to FIFA, a certain percentage of the funds handed to us every year by that organization is to be used for the women's and girl's teams. This is even more important since akosiabab said, there is very little interest from the public and therefore they will have difficulty in getting sponsorships. In practice, PFF is not following this guidelines.
Here in the US, where women lobby groups are very strong, they were able to convince congress to pass laws that state that a certain percentage of scholarships in college must be spent on women's teams inspite of the fact that by and large most of their income come from the men's teams. That is why they are so strong in women's football bec. this encourages their women folk to take up the sport. They even have a women's league which is kind of struggling right now but nevertheless provides income for their women after college.
