I'm not sure what this guy's stand is. Nevertheless, he's right on many points but if he wanted Filipinos to take the game seriously, he's going about it the wrong way. People need to see the game in action in order to appreciate all the wonders of the beautiful game he pointed out. People need to experience the highs and lows of football... the joy and the anguish. And for now, for the Filipino people to embrace all that the game has to offer, the hype helps. Having good looking men be adored by hordes of giggling girls? That helps too. I've met many women who "converted" and ended up appreciating the game after their initial infatuation with our players started their interest. Its all about exposure. And like it or not, marketing. We're truly blessed to have a "marketable" team who's finally, FINALLY, getting the attention they've toiled years for. Now the team knows eyes are on them and they're doing their best to keep that momentum going. I've never expected the Philippines to go the way of other countries to raise football. Every nation went about it their own way. Like it or not, stardom is a powerful entity in our country, possibly more than politics. I don't see why it's wrong to "go there", at least when it comes to bringing public awareness to the game. People are clamoring to watch these boys in action more than I can ever remember. Build it and they will come, yes, only our stadium is in the stardom hype, which is one of the BEST ways to get Filipinos aware of the game. Some will appreciate it, others won't. But I'll be hard-pressed to find a better way to go about it. For now, it's build public demand and the stadiums, money for future development, further (and perhaps more game-centered) passion, and more money to fill deep pockets will come. Lastly, I was there. Chieffy did get his fair share of girlish adulation.
