The Philippines' number #1, Neil Etheridge, came close to being the first South-East Asian to play in the Premier League last night during Fulham's Premier League clash with Wolves. Due to the series of injuries that hit the club, including first-choice keeper David Stockdale, Fulham F.C. were left with Mark Schwarzer and Pascal Zuberbuhler as the club's only two senior shot-stoppers. The surprise came however as manager Mark Hughes chose to name Etheridge instead of the veteran keeper Zuberbuhler. Etheridge is a member of the club's academy and is its' first-choice keeper. He kept three clean sheets during the 2008 AFC Challenge Cup qualifiers, but the Philippines' still failed to qualify as Tajikistan had a superior goal difference in the group.
