I still hope we make it to third. It has been a long time since we made it to the World Championships and we are playing at home. The home advantage should play a factor and I like the fact that they have Baldwin helping Chot behind the bench. Baldwin is an outstanding coach who is familiar with the Asian basketball scene. I would be even more optimistic if he was the one calling the shots, but having him advise Chot is the next best available option.

The Philippines has made it again to the semi-finals of the FIBA Asia Championship after defeating Kazakhstan with a wide margin of 88 - 58 score.
Their opponent will be the winner of Qatar and South Korea game.
Will the Philippines book a ticket to go to Spain for the FIBA World Cup? Find Out!!! If we win tomorrow, we have book a slot to Spain despite of what will be the result of the final game.
3 slots are offered for Asia for the FIBA World Cup.

Nice dominating win Gilas. One more win needed to make the world championships. Unfortunately we would need to win against our old nemesis Korea who has had our number throughout the years. I have watched so many heartbreaking losses to them ever since I can remember. It is about time we get even.
BTW, if anybody has a replay of the Kasakhstan game, please post it here. I wasn't able to watch it, because I am at work.
Never mind. Video is on youtube.

I say 3rd if they defeat Jordan, 5th otherwise. Haha I predicted it wrongly, because Gilas is already assured of silver and are going for the gold! PUSO!!!

Congratulations for the national basketball team for qualifying for the FIBA World Cup next year. That's an amazing achievement for them to win over their nemesis South Korea. The match was indeed heart-stopping. Whatever their result against Iran tomorrow will be totally memorable.
I wish them all the best in Spain next year. But what I really wish for the country in the years to come is to have a Filipino in the NBA. Tall order, figuratively and literarily speaking, but it will something worth looking forward to.
This is a call for sentiment to our beloved Azkals team. I have to say now that our football team has still a long, long way to go to reach a significant place in the world stage. Their sporting "cousins," the Volcanoes rugby team are already getting there, but slowly but surely the Azkals will follow the path of the Gilas and the Volcanoes in the world stage in God's perfect time.
Mabuhay!

Sweet revenge. Read that the Korean coach refused to shake Chot Reyes'es hand after the game. Reminds me of Vietnam's Brazilian coach who lost to the Azkals in 2010. Sore losers.
Job well done guys. Highest finish for Gilas in the Asian championships in quite some time.

Vietnam's former coach who is Henrique Calisto is a Portuguese If they snatch the 1st tomorrow, it will be Philippines best finish in FIBA Asia after 28 years since the 1985 FIBA Asia Championship in which they won also 1st place. Fingers crossed for a Philippines win against the tall Iranians.
That coach's refusal to shake hands means they couldn't accept defeat like Vietnam before in 2010

That coach's refusal to shake hands means they couldn't accept defeat like Vietnam before in 2010 Yup, my bad. Sorry my memory isn't as good as it used to be. Nevertheless same level of sportsmanship displayed as that time. It has been 28 years I believe since we made it to the World Championships. A lot of you guys were not even born then, or were too young too remember, but the Philippines used to lord it over Asia and was an automatic participant in those championships. Never thought it would take this long to get back.

Aquino, VP Binay, some cabinet officials, senators etc., actors and actresses as well as fans flock to the finals despite the rain due to typhoon I really hope the Azkals will have this type of audiences someday when they're in a final match. Congrats to Gilas for the silver medal. They played well against Iran without their center Douthit who could have made a difference. Hopefully the PBA in the future after all the success that Gilas has accomplished will lend their players to the national team during this important events. Their selfishness and politics was the reason for our slide in international basketball decades ago and even now some teams were reluctant to lend their players. It is why I admire the football setup better. FIFA makes it mandatory for clubs to release their players during important events which helped make football the most popular team sport in the world.

3 years ago, a lot of people called our team a hopeless case in Asia (since we are too small to play bball) but this year Gilas showed despite lacking in height, speed and heart can win it for you.
Physical attribute of an athlete is a big factor in sports, yet dedication and a heart for the sport would factor in the end. That is what our boys at gilas showed. I hope this success in Fiba Asia would end the debate we pinoys dont belong in basketball and stick to some other sport.
