Well for a change of pace, i am going to post a south east asian abroad article from goal.com: South-East Asians in Europe: Philippines star Jerry Lucena hits good form for AGF Aarhus Players from three South-East Asian nations took action over the weekend in Europe involving Indonesia, Malaysia and Philippines Sep 19, 2011 3:00:00 AM By Eric Noveanto It was an exhausting weekend for a number of South-East Asia's players, where most of them obtained disappointing results as a team regardless of their each individual performance. Indonesia Alfin Tuasalamony, Yericho Christiantoko and Yandi Sofyan Munawar were unused substitutes for CS Vise when their side lost 4-1 against KVK Tienen in the Belgian second division. Don't Miss SE Asians in Europe: Shrock shines Five SE Asian footballers ready for Europe Philippines Jerry Lucena (AGF Aarhus) played an impressive full 90 minutes to help his team win 2-0 against HB Koge in the Danish Superliga. Dennis Cagara (Lyngby BK) failed to lift his team out of the relegation zone although he played a full game when his team lost 2-0 against Silkeborg IF. He also received a yellow card after 58 minutes. Neil Etheridge (Fulham) was named on substitute list but did not play after being a back-up of Mark Schwarzer in a 2-2 draw against Manchester City at Craven Cottage in England's Premier League on Sunday. Stephan Schrock (SpVgg Greuther Furth) was positioned as left-winger by his coach and also played in 90 minutes in a goalless draw against Alemannia Aachen in Germany's 2.Bundesliga. Paul Mulders (ADO Den Haag), the Dutch-based midfielder was left on the bench as his team suffered a heavy 5-2 loss in away match to FC Twente in the Dutch Eredivisie on Sunday. Ray Jonsson (Grindavik), the 32-year-old left back came on after 64 minutes replacing his team-mate in a drawn match against KR Reykjavik which ended 1-1. Malaysia Malaysian youngsters in the Slovak First League, Mohd Fadhli Mohd Shas, Wan Zack Haikal Wan Noor and Mohd Irfan Fazail did not feature in the FC ViOn Zlate Moravce squad list when their side lost 1-0 against league leaders FC Spartak Trnava. www.goal.com/en/news/1775/asian-editorials/2011/09/19/2672347/south-east-asians-in-europe-philippines-star-jerry-lucenaI bet the Malaysian writer of this thread reads this forum. Wow, that's great, if it helps our Filipino internationals gain more recognition in SEA he's more than welcome. To be fair I received my inspiration from jpmanahan, he's the one that started it for me. I'm also glad our members and guests actually read our player and team reports. Almost 5,000 views now

Right JP, now that I remember it, Noveanto might be Indonesian. He was actually asking for information on facebook about our Filipino players a week or so ago on an Azkal Facebook page, and some of the Filipino posters accused him scouting the team. He said he was just a journalist writing for a European website so I gave him some info on our young European based players. On goal.com, other writers from other countries have players abroad columns. As I mentioned before during the beginning of this thread, it is a frequent and popular topic on longrunning forums like bigsoccer. I was wondering who in the Philippines will pick up on this theme and jpmanahan had the foresight to start it. Noveanto could not have started his column SEA Players in Europe column without the help of Philippine players, as our other SEA neighbors have few players in Europe, and most of them are sitting on the bench or not even part of the first team. He had to use Filipino players to put some substance on his articles. Here is another article he wrote on Sept. 9: Philippines : The new power of Southeast Asian football ready to break Asian powerhouse domination by Eric Noveanto on Friday, September 9, 2011 at 2:36pm Despite being one of the oldest national teams in Asia the Philippines has never qualified for the Asian Cup or the World Cup, however they want to break their own tradition. Football is not the most popular sport in the Philippines, its popularity is far less than basketball or boxing. Philippine basketball team is known as the most powerful in Southeast Asia, but the success story of the Askals team through into semi final of AFF Cup 2010 for the first time is expected to change the history of their football. Unpopularity of football in the Philippines is quite ironic given the country from former Spanish colony was one of the country with the oldest history of football in Asia. Philippines was in the first international match held in Asia, when they lost 1-2 from China in 1912. The Philippines also has one of the co-founder of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) on May 8, 1954. Even AFC was established in Manila. Achievement of the Philippines over the past year was phenomenal, if based on their current condition. They do not have adequate infrastructure football and there was no regular competition in the country. But behind it all, the Philippines turned out to save the power latent. there is one interesting thing from the success story of the Azkals team lately are the policies implemented by the Philippine Football Federation (PFF) to recall their overseas players who have Filipino descent. With the presence of players who are pretty classy for the Southeast Asian football, and also the physically above the average Southeast Asian players, as well as a great individual skill, this turned out to be able to changed the style of play from Azkals team to be more competitive with the top Asian teams more particularly in Southeast Asia. Below are the some of names which are considered that have brought a change of the Philippines football James and Philip Younghusband are two brothers who born and raised in England, James played as a winger while philip as a striker. they had been studying at the academy and began his career at Chelsea there even if only as a player in the reserve team, however their experiences and understanding of modern football has brought changes to the team Azkals. Neil Etheridge is an important figure at goalkeeper of Philippines, armed with the some experiences during a career at Fulham and played for England national team at youth level has been sufficient to give confidence to other Philippines players. Alexander Borromeo has become a key player in the defence of the Philippines, the American-born man is a captain of the team Azkals. His composure in organizing the defense guaranteed to not easily be dismantled by the opponent. Ray Jonsson is the Iceland based of Philippines player, he played for Grindavik in Iceland Premier League. The former U21 Iceland national team is a strong full-back which is accomplished to play as a winger, his quality and experience as an European based player are advantages for Philippines to play a modern football. Stephan Shrock, who plays for German second division club SpVgg Greuther Furth and also played for the German national team at youth level is an important figure in the midfield of the team kicks azkals have an accurate and reliable in the set piece. Jerry Lucena the Danish based central midfielder who played for AGF Aarhus in Danish Superliga has shown his capacity as a quality player who can lift the performance of the Philippine national team. Paul Mulders is another european based player of Philippines who played for ADO Den Haag in Eredivisie, he is another talent as an attacking midfield. His performance successfully helped the Azkals team played very well. Angel Guirado is a new ammunition for the player of the team Azkals strikers, with a height about 1.90m above the average of the southeast asian players, he is considered to be a clinical striker. The Spanish born-man also had played for several clubs in Spain, began his career in the youth team from malaga then had to continue a professional career in some Spanish top club such as Cordoba, Deportivo La Coruna, and Levante.

Wiking and JP,
As for this thread, I envision this thread to be the longest running thread on this forum on a yearly basis, with our readers getting frequent updates from Wiking, Jp and others throughout the long European season. My thought is to start another thread at the start of the European season next year, so that updates can be grouped per season.

MATCH REPORT: Mark Drinkuth
Sept 18 2011 DJK Agon 08 0-0 TV Kalkum-Wittlaer
Mark's DJK Agon 08 played a home game against TV Kalkum-Wittlaer. Confident or perhaps overconfident, Agon could not muster enough to earn 3 points and had to settle for 1 against a scrappy TV Kalkum-Wittlaer team. Again, Mark was in the thick of things, delivering a pretty pass to a teamate who ultimately could not finish with a goal. Agon had the chances but just could not convert. The tie game, though, was good enough to bring Agon to 2nd place in the District League Group 1(Bezirksliga Gruppe 1) of the Lower Rhine District while TV KW is at 10th in the 16 team Bezerksliga.
Agon's season stats so far is 3-0-2. Incidentally, they also are the most prolific scoring team in their league, scoring 18 goals in 5 games, with the second placer scoring 15.
Once again Mark Drinkuth was in the line up, starting and going all the way to the finish.

TEAM/PLAYER REPORT: James Leigh Gunn/Fraser Park FC/NSW Super League, Australia(3rd Tier)
Fraser Park FC/ Australia
James Leigh Gunn 31 is a veteran player for the Philippine National Team. Although his last appearance was in 2006, he is still an active pro soccer player, plying his trade in his home base of Australia. His team is Fraser Park FC, a team that was born in 1961 and won promotion to the NSW Division 1 in 2000. NSW Div.1 is the third tier in Australian soccer.
Fraser Park FC's 2011 season has recently ended in August with FPFC coming in at 10th in the 12 team league.
Unfortunately information is hard to come by for Australian soccer in the 3rd tier, so goals made and starting rosters are imprecise. But we do know that he plays in offense, mostly as a striker and sometimes winger, and is quite involved in the games. In the individual game write ups of his team, he is often mentioned for being involved in scoring or scoring opportunities.
James Leigh Gunn was a past member of the Azkals, yet could he be in the future again?

Hey JP cool article, but I don't know how useful your video interview of Paul Mulders is without a translation. Most of us don't speak Dutch. Fortunately I have friends on other forums who do and here is their translation:
Q: Paul Mulders 30 years of age, performed 11 season at the second highest level in the Netherlands, made 45 goals. With your transfer I thought to myself what do we have to do with a guy like that? Do you understand that?
A: If you don't know me, well...., everybody just has it's own opinion on the matter.
Q: What I mean is, somebody who has already reached a high age in terms football, has played so long on the second highest level, I have also seen you playing at Haarlem, I found it a very surprising buy by the club. I thought to myself, is that the kind of player with which we will go and make that next step (red. ADO plays at the highest level in the Netherlands and ended number 7 last year of the 18 teams competing to be crowned best of the country). I want to add to that immidiatly, that I am in fact over the moon with the performances you have displayed so far.
A: Oh, well thank you, I just try to do my best and if people don't know me, well maybe they now see me on TV (red I think he says this but he doesn't articulate these words well enough to be sure, even when I listened it back a few times with Sennheisers on) and about my age, well, maybe that people now have changed their mind about it.
Q: You now play a couple of months for The Hague (ADO), what do you like about the club?
A: The atmosphere is beautiful. People that come have love for the club but also for the city. The entourage is just great.
Q: You have a Philippine mother and since this year you have also become Philippine international, how have you experiences that selection?
A: I saw it as a great extra present for me after the transfer to ADO. It's just super.
Q: If I'm well informed you play there left back, is that correct?
A: That is correct. There was a emergency situation as the normal left back was injured. In the trainers view, nobody else could play there, so I had to fill it in.
Q: Does Maurice Steijn (red trainer ADO The Hague) also know you can play left back, because supporters are not happy with Filip Lukšík. Those are my words. Is the left back position a option for you?
A: I don't think so, left back position is no option for me.
Q: What is you favourite position?
A: I prefer to play behind the strikers
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Part two of the interview is not very serious anymore and more a way to confront the player with quasi absurd questions to entertain the TV audience and look how he reacts to it and if he composes himself.
Q: Now FC Twente and Newcastle United have brought lingerie on the market, would you like to be welcomed by your wife with her own yellow green outfit?
A: Surprises are always nice, but yellow green.... can't say I have seen that before in the lingery.
Q: World stars as Christiano Ronaldo and Wesley Sneijder have their own facebook account and their own Twitter account and manage those themselves, but you have people that do that for you. What makes you so special?
A: Oh, well that is a coincidence. My friends, in fact my nephew started it, that's the way it went. I have nothing with Facebook, but if they want to make one, than that's pretty funny.
Q: I have to give those guys my compliments, it looks pretty pro and for people watching, start following him because it's very nice. Last Friday I saw you playing with a mask on your face and a number of female supporters were attracted by it. Do you also wear it at home in the bedroom?
A: Is that the case? No, no, no. I think you are totally wrong about that. I think it had the reverse effect and it scared people.
Q: One of those females was my girlfriend, where can I buy such a mask?
A: laughes ... would be a niche in the market if that was the case.
They joke around a bit more, where Mulders chooses a Philippine snack over a Dutch one (as a way to say he feels more the one than the latter) and they wrap the interview up. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- My friend's comments: He comes across a pretty calm, even when an interviewer tries to get something out of him (it is a local station, with more room for dare questions). In the first part some interesting points and how great he thinks it is to play for the Philippines. Looks like very down to earth and who knows can play another 4 or 5 years for the Philippines if he is good for his body. One thing. I think he wants to play behind the strikers and move away from left back as soon as possible.

MATCH REPORT: Ray Anthony Jonsson
Sept 20 2011 Grindavík 1-3 FH
Today Ray's Grindavik faced the Úrvalsdeild 2010 champion. Armed with the thought that they have not lost in 7 games, tied the league leading team a few days ago and playing in its own backyard, Grindavik prepared to face the Hafnarfjordur(FH) with high hopes.
FH struck early at the 22nd minute yet could go no further. It was 1-0 at the half. The second half started fast and did not stop for FH as it scored at the 49th, then the 50th minute. It was the end for Jonsson's Grindavik, for unlike last year when they had the leagues leading scorer, there were none to take his place this year. Grindavik eventually scored a consolation goal at the 85th minute. Too little to late.
Grindavik remains third from last, at 10th place, while FH remains at third
Ray Jonsson was first choice sub and entered at the 60th minute in this losing cause.

As per Manny Ott, he's out of the LTC, but he's in the SEAGames. Also, it looks like Manny just confirmed for us the birth of Rob's kid.
