I think it's a good pairing, however, with Bob and either Darren or Chris. Kinda like the ESPN Star Sports F1 commentating. One guy is super-excited and keeps the viewer sucked in to the goings-on and is free to speculate, even if he isn't that well-versed in the car and race technicalities and driver experiences while the other guy is an expert in all things Grand Prix but isn't as lively. The viewer has someone to relate to and another guy to educate him or her. In time I think Bob will get better in articulating his empathy with the viewer.

We need a Bob Guerrero drinking game though. XD
I'm just concerned that most of the time, they don't know who has the ball or what's going on even, they waste precious seconds figuring out the formation, or who's the guy on the left side or the right. Aren't they supposed to get team sheets and formations? It would have helped TV viewers too if the broadcasters show the formations on screen like they do abroad, then again they probably don't get detailed team sheets anyway. Its a waste lang, I have a hard time explaining to people at home what's going on, assessing how players do in their position because you don't know who's who on the field.
Unlike when I watch a United game, I'll have already a good assumption of what the manager has in mind based on where someone on the field is.

I agree, our local coverage needs a lot of work. Nevertheless, it's done well in a short time. Time to make it more professional and give it more of a football atmosphere. No techno break music or crappy ABS-CBN sound effects please! Let the audience hear the roar of the crowd! How do the commentators abroad get their info on starting lineups and formations, anyway? I'm curious. And a Bob G drinking game sounds like a lot of fun! Maybe we can do it in a Google + hangout or something?

Bob Guerrero drinking game:
Drink anytime Bob:
- says "the Philippine Azkals" - mentions Dennis Cagara's brother being part of a Jason Mraz video - says "beautiful pass!" - makes Darren Hartmann explain offsides - calls Chieffy "Airman First Class Chieffy Caligdong" - mentions Angel Locsin after/while Phil Younghusband has the ball - uses "Roel Gener" and "versatility" in the same sentence - mentions a Fil-foreigner's mother's hometown (ex. "Neil Etheridge, whose mother hails from Tarlac...") - says, "and you know, Darren..." - uses "Jason Abbott Sabio" and "law student at the University of Alabama" in the same sentence - (sadly we won't hear this much nowadays) calls Yanti "Staff Sergeant Yanti Barsales"

Which is better, Arabic commentators or Bob Guerrero? ;D I always laugh and smile at the enthusiasm of those Arabic commentators, for me the staccato on their commentary is epic. I always remember Walter Winchell.
How about the a reincarnation of Portuguese-style commentary in Philippine football? ;D

My personal favorite Bob G moment is when he goes "...WITH SOME RRRROOOOOOOMMMMMM!!!" everytime anyone has a few yards of space near the box XD Haven't seen a UFL game on AKTV yet though.
The best local commentary I've heard is during an EPL match on AKTV. It sounded more sensible.
I don't know exactly how commentators abroad get their team sheets and formations, but I guess given that they're able to talk about it during the opening ceremonies of a match, teams are required to give a copy of their starting 11, subs and formation? Everytime I watch a live game that's the case, before the teams march in they're usually still speculating and during the openers they'll suddenly have the team sheets in.

Regarding match commentary, I don't know if this is still practiced in Europe nowadays. Usually people at home watching a match on TV would mute the sound and turn on the commentary on the radio. Apparently, TV commentators are more "objective" in their commentary while radio commentators are more partisan.
Bob Guerrero's style reminds me of Ray Hudson of Goltv though Hudson knows more about football (former player) than Bob G, but has got that excitable tone also.
Hartmann and Soler are okay, but like someone said here, don't pair them together.
A bit off-topic, I can tolerate the commentary but I have a beef with the camera work. I don't know if it's a technical/infrastructure problem where they can't get an optimal overhead camera view that helps the viewer see a bit more of the field and how the run of play develops.
Another thing is they follow the ball too closely. For example, once Phil gets the ball and takes it down the wing they immediately zoom on Phil. We can't see how the others are making their runs in relation to Phil. That's what replays are for, to show the moments of individual brilliance. But primarily, football is a team sport and they should cover it with that perspective in mind.
Still, I remember the days where we don't get to see football at all on TV, especially Philippine football so I'm not really complaining. Hopefully, they'll learn and coverage improves as time goes by.

But primarily, football is a team sport and they should cover it with that perspective in mind. For the bad camerawork, I think its a between the stadium and the camera crew itself, but I think ABS-CBN Sports still could've done better with their staging. I don't think they've done their homework properly, especially the cameramen. I don't blame the cameramen anyway, what to they care about football? Though yeah, I'd have to agree with you on the closeups, it would be nice to see who is moving in support to the man on the ball. That's why I find it hard to watch NT games on TV. I don't know how it could be hard. If you've caught FA Cup games on Star Sports, sometimes they broadcast games from the really small teams, their grounds look like school fields compared to Rizal but they give better views of the action.

LOL, guys, add this to the Bob G drinking game. It's my favorite, try to catch him says it(about 2-3 times a game). "...thats a highly speculative shoot on goal don't you think so Darren?..."

But I have seen several games (replay) on TV and the Bob G lists are all spot on!
