So am I right, was it a dflection off his toe? But I don't think it was a toe "kick." More like his toe getting in the way! His toe was crafted in his mother's womb for just that moment.

Oh! I guess you're right. That's sad. I was happy for his toe.

I've been thinking for the past 20 minutes and I realized that it WAS a deflection off Deyto's toe because the next action was a corner kick.
ALL HAIL DEYTO'S TOE!

When that backpass seemed headed for the back of the net, DID DEYTO'S TOE DEFLECT IT?
I'd like to know if Deyto's toe saved the day. That would have been the turning point of the game.

THE DARK SIDE OF THE MOON ------------------------- After browsing through this thread I realized that, one, we're still so hung up on formations, and two, we're still so hung up on formations. Maybe I've been gazing at the dark side of the moon far too long but I would like to submit a thought: what if formations didn't matter in the grand scheme of things? See I've been slowly coming to the conclusion that formations are important only because they set up points of references for the players... but that's it. I'm realizing more and more that football is about the relationships between players at any given moment, relationships with the ball, and how to deal with the spaces in between. Apparently I'm not the only one drawing these conclusions: 1. "The formation is only the first snapshot. After that, the players are always on the move because the ball is on the move, so the formation no longer exists. In any case, style of play is related to an idea, not to a geographic positioning on the pitch." - JUANMA LILLO
2. "...formations are slowly dying out... It has become increasingly difficult to mark the movement of the players, with regards to the ball, just by assigning numbers to each line." - SLAVEN BILIC
3. "Players come to the forefront and that's why teams win, not because of their formation. Goals happen because someone makes a mistake and someone does something instinctual, not because they were lined up in a certain formation." - ALEXI LALAS
4. "In the end, [the formation] doesn't matter... In the end, we all change." - THIAGO MOTTA
So for me it doesn't matter where PYH, or Schrock, play. Phil can play a sweeper/libero like Franz Beckenbauer for all I care as long as he's comfortable and can find space to knock goals in.
As for Schrock, just put him where he can do what he does best, that is taking opponents on and opening up space.

True that, johnmarki. But don't worry, I won't get my hopes up because I'm always cynical when it comes to football.
You know what, I would. At a drop of a hat, I would. But only if it meant playing for a national team that is a regular in the World Cup.
Would you?

Learn well, Pancho Fernandez, learn well. www.insidetoronto.com/news-story/3917404-etobicoke-teen-off-to-spain-to-become-first-canadian-to-sign-with-malaga-fc-s-youth-division/------- The 14, 15, 16 year olds today are the generations we should keep our eyes on. They are going to be the link between the current crop of national players and the Sandro Reyes of the future. This link, this stopgap, is crucial. The current crop of national players are too old to influence (and that includes the Mark Hartmanns, the Porterias, the Angeleses) and the Sandro Reyeses are too young to bet on. We have to focus on the link between the present and the future. Pancho Fernandez and his generation better learn all they can while they still have time.

If there ever was a moment when football fans should stand together and turn push to shove, it's now. If there's a moment when the administrators of the site should really lean on an issue, it's now.
What are the implications if the PFF decides to defy the POC and PSC as Mike Limpag is suggesting? If we can defy the POC and the PSC... LET'S DO IT!
Nothing will unite football fans more than fighting against an injustice.

Hi Wiking, good to hear from you.
I've been following Philippine football since the early 2000s - I was one of those in 2005 who voted for the name "Azkals," campaigned for the ouster of a corrupt PFF president, and have been to a few national team matches outside the country... thanks to forums such as this. What I'm saying is that I think I have a pretty good idea of the extent of the influence and power of the Filipino football fan.
Don't get me wrong, I love the discussions on this forum but I'm lucid and pragmatic enough to realize that most of these dialogues are at best a mere intellectual exercise. (We discuss tactics, preferred formations, preferred line-ups... but do we really think our discussions affect Weiss' decisions in the end?) We do it because it's fun.
We are not like other countries where the fans are given voice and allowed dialogue at the highest levels of football and can thus exert direct influence. Our contributions on this forum are paltry unless given voice and substance by forum members who are influential in mainstream media or at the administrative level of national football.
Wiking, my contention was this: why do we need to argue over the opinion of the national coach on whether a player is good enough for the NT or not? We don't pick the team, he does. Hence the word "fuss" - we can't worry about something that's out of our hands.
Sometimes I feel the administrators on this forum try to create a furor over something that, if given closer attention, might not mean so much in the end. But I don't blame them really because it's their job to create sustained points of interest on this forum and that's not an easy thing to do as this forum has demanding clientele!
There are times when the consensus of opinion in a forum may be a catalyst of change and there are also times when the discourses on the forum fade into white noise.

WHO DECIDES WHO IS GOOD ENOUGH?WHOSE OPINION MATTERS? Is there somebody out there with a checklist and well constructed survey instruments who uses complex statistical models to figure out which football athlete is good enough for the national team? Maybe they conduct polls in forums like this and pick players based on these polls? Oh wait, here's a thought! Maybe they ask the head coach to pick and decide who the best players are! It means MY OPINION and the opinion of everyone on this forum don't matter scat because we don't get to choose the national team. We don't get to choose who is good enough. Weiss does. Oh the horror! If the Bundestrainer decides that our local players aren't good enough, why get our bahags in a bunch when our opinion doesn't matter at all? What are we fussing about?-------- I don't agree with some of the things I see in how Weiss handles the NT and I think there are more astute coaches out there. But I agree with what the Bundestrainer is saying. He's been around the block, has seen different footballing cultures, and comes from a strong football culture himself. He knows what he's saying. Furthermore, doesn't this article support what Weiss said? ph.sports.yahoo.com/blogs/thepassionatefan/meet-azkals-u23-team-secret-weapon-083943491.html(While Weiss' statement may be honest and frank, the statements of the Nike Total Football coaches are similar... only sugarcoated.)

Administrator, thanks for pointing some things out.
Let me clarify though that I never said anything about the players coming from top leagues. I did say "very good clubs" and that's a big difference. My point was to argue against your statement that they "...are still given good training and henceforth Philippine football benefits as a whole".
Wouldn't Novem Baumann be better off training with his club, FC Zurich, than with the Euro Azkals? Unless of course if he was told that being part of the Euro Azkals was his ticket to the national team.
--------
I apologize for sidetracking from the purpose of this thread. I was trying to point out that the whole idea of having a team called Euro Azkals is misleading to the public and to any young player trying to put himself in the shop window for the Philippine national team. Calling the team a "developmental team" is furthering the deception as any developmental team would have direct support from the national organization (the PFF).
Mr. Weiler deserves full credit for scouting wonderful players including some who have gone on to play for the national team (I had first heard about Stephan Schrock from him). It's also interesting to note that Mr. Weiler claims to have the copyrights of the word "azkals" in 27 countries so he has all the right to use the name Euro Azkals. But to what end?
I have no objections to having a page on USAPANGFOOTBALL dedicated to the Euro Azkals if they are presented as just another club and not as a developmental team aimed at producing players for the national squad. That's the original intent of the thread, right? That the Euro Azkals are no different from other clubs?
Again, apologies for digressing. Cheers.

Forgive me Administrator, but are the points given by lakza true? Unless you can provide evidence against what lakza says then this thread is very misleading.
Do enlighten us. Nobody wants to get pavoned again.
----------------
You also said this,
"Regardless of who runs the team, our foreign-based prospects are still given good training and henceforth Philippine football benefits as a whole."
I'm a bit confused. Who gives them "good training" again? Surely not the EURO AZKALS as these lads come from very good clubs in the first place!
PERHAPS these young boys and their families are under the impression that by playing for the EURO AZKALS they are part the national team set-up (as it's being called a DEVELOPMENTAL TEAM). I'd be sorely tempted to think that the EURO AZKALS is set-up to gather funding and support and where that funding and support goes I can only guess.
So Administrator, I hope you set me straight here. I hope I am wrong and that the EURO AZKALS is indeed a developmental team set up with the blessings of the PFF.

Oh no, Paul Weiler again?!
Unless you're a newbie, Usapang Football administrator, you'll away from this guy.
