OJ Porteria has decided to reach for greater heights, ending his pro and international career in the Philippines. The 22-year-old Azkals and Kaya FC star made the announcement in a post on Instagram on Monday night. “Life is short, and once you've done all you could do, once you've achieved the goals that you've set out for yourself, it's time to embark on a new journey,” Porteria said. “It's time for new challenges and a fresh start.” The Filipino-American striker carved out a name as a pint-sized dynamo who plays bigger than his 5-foot-6 frame, suiting up 19 times and scoring two goals for the Azkals since 2012, the same year he started playing for Kaya. Porteria’s finest moment came last May in Kaya’s debut campaign in the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Cup where he struck the match winner deep in stoppage time against New Radiant that gifted the Philippine representative a historic win the tournament. Porteria leaves Kaya in the middle of its campaign in the United Football League where the LBC-backed club is in the middle of the pack, running fifth with 15 points in eight matches. Anyway he clarified that he is still interested to play for the Azkals. Still some good news. Maybe he just want to think over about his professional career?

OJ Porteria is setting his sights on the bigger stage, either in the US or Europe after announcing his departure from Kaya FC last week. The Filipino-American booter will return to his native Virgina to relax for two weeks, then finish his official highlight video and resume, which he will send to various clubs there. “It has been a lifelong dream of mine to play either in the US or play in Europe,” Porteria told Spin.ph on Monday. Porteria, 22, said he could have “potential trials” with clubs from United Soccer League, the second-tier of American soccer, Major League Soccer, Iceland, and Sweden, as well as in Australia. “Nothing is for sure, but those are the places that have been mentioned to me as of right now,” said Porteria, who played his youth career in the US with DC United. The 5-foot-6 striker clarified he will still make himself available for selection to the national team in future tournaments. But he reiterated it was time for a change in his pro career as he tries his luck overseas. “After our AFC Cup stint, I felt it was the right moment. I had a lot of weeks, months to think about it all and to pray about making the right decision,” Porteria said. “And now I can surely say, I’m ready for a new challenge and fresh start.” Read more at www.spin.ph/football/ufl/news/oj-porteria-sets-sights-on-us-europe-as-next-stop-in-pro-career#4jcIjyu8jbywkjL8.99

OJ Porteria is in the lineup for the Bahrain and N Korea October friendlies. The former Kaya player says he will be available for the Suzuki then he is open to other possibilities. The Virginian said he trained with MLS team DC United while in the states recently and he says he may join some scouting combines in the US, where MLS and European scouts examine players.
