www.interaksyon.com/interaktv/real-madrid-youth-football-clinic-slated-in-manila-this-decemberAnother prestigious football camp is coming to the Philippines. The Fundacion Real Madrid is conducting a youth clinic in the country, with no less than 150 children taking part in the camp slated from December 12 to December 17 at the Alabang Country Club in Muntinlupa City. “The Real Madrid Football Clinic will be an experience of a lifetime especially for the youth,” said Tomas Lozano, founder of the Makati Football Club, one of the event’s partner organizations. Fundacion Real Madrid has a partnership with La Liga side Real Madrid where its coaches get their training and are expected to teach the core values of the squad that dubs itself as the “world’s best club of the 20th century.” Children aged seven to 17 will get the chance to be trained by two youth coaches from Fundacion Real Madrid and 15 local coaches. Eighty of the participants are coming from the poor sector, with some of them hailing from different institutions such as Gawad Kalinga and Tuloy Foundation and provinces such as Pangasinan and Camarines Sur. The Real Madrid football clinic added to the growing list of prestigious youth camps held in the country, joining Manchester United and FCB Escola. Philippine Football Federation Mariano Araneta said Real Madrid’s camp is a big help to the development of football in the grassroots level. “There are a lot of interest here in the country. We need the transfer of technology,” he said. “Hopefully more will come and more children will get to learn how to play football.” Lozano hopes that this year’s camp would pave the way for more partnerships with the Fundacion Real Madrid in the future. “The doors have been opened and we hope we could work out more good things with Real Madrid,” Lozano said.

www.interaksyon.com/interaktv/real-madrid-youth-football-clinic-kicks-off-in-the-philippinesYouth coaches from Real Madrid have arrived in the Philippines to start conducting a two-week football clinic that is part of a project which aims to raise funds to further promote the sport to young Filipinos. Coaches Daniel Landaburu and Mario Eseuer are spearheading the Goooal! Football Clinic, a two-week football camp which already began this week. “Why are we here? We’d love to return all the love from the Philippines to our team, Real Madrid, helping kids in social improvement,” said Luis Fernandez, Real Madrid Vice Presiden and CEO for Asia Pacific. “The sports and the football are very, very important for us: for the education, for the values… Real Madrid is very, very happy to be here.” About 120 children aged seven to 18 participated in the first leg of the camp at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium from last Sunday and will last until this Friday. After that, the camp will then shift to Negros Occidental from April 27 to May 1 at the SJR Football Field in San Carlos City. Landaburu and Eseuer are being helped out by four assistant coaches. They will also share their skills and knowledge in football among local coaches in Manila and Negros Occidental. Fundacion Santiago Executive Director Chaco Molina, who is spearheading the event, said the clinic provides an opportunity for participants not just to learn football but also to help the country as proceeds will go to the organizations’ tourism development programs. “We always say its more fun in the Philippines but we also want to make volunteer work more fun in the Philippines,” Molina said. “They can, for example, help a group in disaster management in Albay, we make sure that they also enjoy the sight of Mayon Volcano.” “To make this sustainable, we organize events. We brought their club to raise funds to maintain this.” Fundacion Santiago has two programs, namely the Community Based Heritage Tourism and Volun2rism, which both aim to boost tourism in the Philippines as well as help the communities involved. Molina added that poor children are also given the chance to have a world-class football training as afternoon sessions of the clinics are reserved for them. “Even in this fundraising we make sure there is a component of social responsibility,” Molina said. The Real Madrid football clinic is the latest addition to the growing list of prestigious youth camps in the country, joining Manchester United and FCB Escola. Last December, the Real Madrid Foundation also hosted a football camp in Alabang which attracted no less than 150 children.
