Philippines Wins All But 1 Game on First Day of Pacific Asia Youth Invitational

Guam - The Philippines won all but one of their games in the opening day of the Pacific Asia Youth Invitational soccer tournament against a handful of Guam’s youth soccer teams at the Guam Football Association facility in Harmon.
“In terms of skill, the kids here in Guam are not that far behind,” said the Philippines coach Christopher Datu, who also plays goalkeeper for the Diliman Football Club, a 2nd division team in the United Football League. “They are about par to our teams in the Philippines.
“The goalkeepers are quite good, especially the one from the Sidekicks, the team that we drew 3-3 in the U14 division,” Datu added, speaking about the Sidekicks’ Jerome Artero.
The Sidekicks’ Dalton Kinney prevented a win for the Philippines, after scoring a goal in the final minute of play. The Philippines had been leading 3-2 after the first half and almost secured a win before Kinney’s shot.
Older sister Kayla Kinney broke the scoring ice for the Sidekicks in the first half and Vincent Cruz added another before the halftime whistle. The Philippines’ Isaac Dale scored twice and teammate Matthew Ozil added a goal to his team’s tally in the first half.
Later in the day, the Philippines U14 team defeated the Wings FC 5-2. Ozil scored twice for the Philippines and teammates Mauro Acot, Kevin Bartolome and Louie Dale also scored. Bartolome earned his goal on a beautiful, uncontested header off a corner kick in the second half.
In the last U14 game of the day, the Sidekicks defeated the Strykers 5-0.Kayla Kinney struck twice for her team and teammates Dalton Kinney, Vincent Cruz and Giancarlo Tenorio each scored once.
In the U12 division, the Philippines’ Randy Raz and Fidel Tacardon combined for 11 goals in two games. Raz scored once and Tacardon twice in the Philippines 4-1 win over the Wings in the morning. Later, Raz netted five goals and Tacardon had a hat trick in his team’s 11-3 win over the Strykers.
Karl Bugayong scored the Philippines’ other goal against the Wings, while Preston Boynton scored the Wings’ lone goal.
Bugayong, Nigel Buan, Sam Unabia also scored in the Philippines win over the Strykers. Chad Ishizu, Leon Morimoto and Rhys Paynter scored for the Strykers.
In other U12 games, the Strykers defeated the ASC Islanders 4-0 and later, the Wings recorded a 6-0 win over the ASC Islanders.
Play continues Sunday at the GFA facility.

Philippines Continues to Dominate on Day 2 of Pacific Youth Soccer Tournament

Guam - The Philippines continued to show their dominance, picking up one win in the U12 division and another in the U14 division, putting both squads in first place in their respective divisions going into the playoffs of the Pacific Asia Youth Invitational soccer tournament at the Guam Football Association facility in Harmon.
The Philippines’ Fidel Tacardon continued to rack up his goals on the second day of play – including two when the 12-year-old Claret student made his debut playing up in the U14 division. Tacardon leads all Philippine players with 10 goals in four games.
“I was excited to play in the U14 game because it was my first time playing on the same team as the older players,” Tacardon said. “I did not expect to score any goals in the U14 game.”
In the Philippines’ U14 game against the Strykers, Tacardon scored in the 44th minute and again one minute later in the visiting country’s 6-3 win. Prior to Tacardon’s goals, teammates Isaac Dale recorded a hat trick by the 31st minute of play and Matthew Ozit added the Philippines’ other goal in the first half.
The Strykers’ had a late surge, getting on board in the 52nd minute of play with a goal from Scott Ishizu. Jaythaniel Cruz added another goal three minutes later and teammate Bradley Dickson scored in the final minute of play when the ball rolled off of his back and into the goal.
In the other U14 game, the Wings defeated the Sidekicks 2-1. The Sidekicks held a 1-0 lead going into the half on a goal from Chris Cawili. The Wings’ Jordan Jasmin scored the equalizer in the opening minutes of the second half and teammate Shohei Norton scored the eventual game-winning goal in the 55th minute.
The Sidekicks move down to third place behind the Wings with the loss. The Sidekicks will again face the Wings in the opening round of the playoffs.
In the U12 division, Tacardon led his team with a hat trick against the ASC Islanders. Teammates Randy Raz, Edmund Venus and Sam Unabia each scored twice, while Diego Luna, Anthony Uy and Nigel Buan added one goal each in the Philippines’ 12-1 win. The ASC Islanders’ Zoe Provido scored the lone goal for her team.
In the other U12 game, the Wings defeated the Strykers 4-1.
