I said earlier that coach Weiss was probably not in the Philippines yet, but I think he was. pinoyfootball.com/index.php?page=newsupdates&newsId=11100179The writer of that article was able to get Weiss' comments on the game. He says that the match was disappointing, but was understandable considering the CFIM's status.

was this the present fysical level of the azkal players only one week before the start of the competition ? this is very disappointing . what are they doing there except appearing in commercials and tv shows ? i was expecting more of them playing against a team that is not even in the top 100 in spain and losing ?? it only proves that at this moment the eurobased players are a necessity to achieve a higher level of play . and for the players like angel and others who decided to play in the philippines : if they don't work on it themselves the only direction they are moving now is backwards . I talked with jeffrey christiaens about his games with global there and he knows this also : he didn't even get his shirt wet when playing in the cupgame !! i hope they wake up in time . there are things moving and i hope they can keep on moving forward . it is not a time to rest and look back on what was achieved . the hard work is only starting if not we will be back in the football "middle ages" before we know it .

FT: Phil. Air Force Phoenix 0 - 10 CF Internacional de Madrid.
Inter de Madrid has a fluid offense which had made Air Force lose their trademark defensive stance.

This is an issue of tactical knowledge. This is Spanish Football. Tiki-taka in offense. Zonal marking but ball pressure on defense. They'll force you to offload the pass quick. Unless you all can play tiki-taka, you won't be able to beat the defense of CFIM.
For me, tactical and technical knowledge must be increased. Our teams are being battered by these techniques, and they don't have enough knowledge to adjust tactically.
I mean, from the opinions I gathered from social media, they said the tackling of CFIM wasn't done in a sliding fashion. They did it standing up! That means pressure on the opponent's side. Air Force should've been more physical in their offense, and make short and quick passes as well.
Great learning experience for our teams though. ;D

this result just poves my point i was trying to make . this was a semi-professional/amateur team just on a holiday/training trip playing against one of the 'better" teams in the Philippine competition . it will be difficult for ALL azkals players playing in the UFL to maintain a decent level to compete internationally if nothing will be done for this .

I would like to add a couple of items as to why we got hammered by CFIM. 1) Fitness - this has been raised by many that our players just got off the holidays, and so, understandably, the fitness level were not there. Some mentioned only a couple of practice sessions were done prior to the game. I cannot really accept this alibi. Professional players, or those aspiring to be called one, the off-season is where most of their hard work work is done in readiness when they are called. Since we are but just starting off with football, our 'Pros' need to understand much is required. Just like the Spartan 500, understanding their inferiority made them work more cohesively, practice and hone their war craft to perfection, to beat the odds stacked against them. That basically what we have today as far as our football is concerned. We are inferior and so we all need to work harder than others in practice as a team, and individually as players. 2) The way the CFIM played the game was just beyond us. Understanding the deeper part of the game makes it look like easy fro CFIM, while our players looked like everywhere. I'd like to point a similarity of this to a game of chess. Has anyone of you played chess with a master before? You thought you played good moves, the master did not really played attacking moves, yet you are still struggling in the game, your pieces gets scattered everywhere, and ultimately you lose the game. The CFIM players knows the game and the system. They know where to go without the ball, they know where a defender or defenders should go if the ball is played one side or the other, and so, they were just more INTELLIGENT around the game than our players, it didn't looked like they were playing so hard against. Soccer Intelligence was the difference. When you multiply that by 11 ... so can see how easily the CIFM can beat us. Now I am not saying our 11 are dumb. What I'm saying is, the difference in game intelligence translates easily to fluid game for CFIM allowing them to beat us. Just some thoughts ...

that was a masacre. poor defense but i also feel the goal keeper could have done better as well. even when CFIM lacked good finishing (as evident by the many poorly taken shots), they still managed to score 10 goals. just goes to show how much better spain is compared to us. hopefully there were many coaches that watched this game or at least tapes were distributed so that we can actually learn from this defeat.
