I agree. That was a terrible thing to do. Thank goodness it wasn't the PFF website. "Just checking" if people were reading news on the site?! BOOOO!!!

They are claiming to be the official Azkals website ? Have they been approved by PFF ?

It's probably the closest thing to an official website since the people running it are linked with the team (rafa, etc.)

I doubt the PFF has anything to do with it. The "Azkals" brand is now a totally separate entity and I believe this is that brand's official site. While treating the national team like a club has pros, it looks like mess ups like this is one of the cons.
However, I'm sure this will blow over in time. But right now it's hard for me to accept any news from that site as rock-solid. Considering that this is an "official" site, sentiments like mine are not what it should have from its visitors so soon after launch.

Azkals to face Malaysia in Feb. 29 friendlyBy Cheska D. Geli Friday, December 9, 2011 SOME four years after losing to Malaysia, 4-0, in the AFF Championships, the Philippine national team will get a chance to get even as it is set to take on the Suzuki Cup champions in a friendly match on Feb. 29 at the Rizal Memorial Stadium. Philippine team manager Dan Palami said the Malaysia game is just one of a series of friendlies the team will have in preparation for the AFC Challenge Cup. Aside from Malaysia, the team will also have a match against a Spanish third division team and teams in the Gulf nations. CF Madrid, which plays in Spain, expressed intentions to come over and play the Azkals on Jan. 7 but the national team requested to have it rescheduled since it is too close to Christmas break.
Both camps decided to have the game on Jan. 21 in Rizal Memorial Stadium and that match will be also be televised in Spain.“This shows the tie between Spain and Philippines is strong and it’s a good opportunity for us to strengthen the relationship,” said Palami. The Azkals are also scheduled to play against Dubai, Bahrain and Qatar on Feb. 6 to 15.
Palami said the international friendlies were products of the LA Galaxy Game against the Azkals last Dec. 3. “Many international teams are now showing interest to play here in the country,” Palami said. The New Zealand All Whites, which made the World Cup in 2010, was supposed to play the Azkals on Feb. 29 but backed out due to a prior commitment. The Philippine Football Federation (PFF) then decided to invite Malaysia instead for the Azkals’ final friendly game before leaving for the AFC Challenge Cup in Nepal in March. In the Challenge Cup, the Philippines will meet North Korea on March 9, India on March 11 and Tajikistan on 13. North Korea, India and Tajikistan are all previous winners of the Challenge Cup and the Philippines will be missing the services of team skipper and defender Aly Borromeo. It is interesting to note that just like the LA Galaxy game was televised in the US, the game against CF Madrid will be televised as well in Spain. I am not sure but this might be the first time that the Philippine national football team has appeared in a TV broadcast in either country. The Philippine's visibility in the world football scene has certainly improved a lot in a short period of time.

An "official Azkals" site never sounded good, whether their news is true or not. God I hope that brand dies.
If the CF Madrid game does happen, it would probably be cheaper than the LA Galaxy game, but would people attend a game against a Tercera team? Are less-knowledgeable people gonna mislead themselves that its the "Madrid" everyone knows? Heck knowing they'll play Malaysia a month later makes me want to watch that match more than against CF Madrid (even if it'll end up a rout).

Oh so they're just checking if people are visiting the 'official' website. With what they did, I won't visit that site again.
This forum is much more reliable.

Jan 21 2012 Philippine NT vs CF Madrid!! Venue TBA note: this team is not Real Madrid! Wiking, Can you provide a link that states that this is really official. Because looking back at this thread it is not clear whether its true or not. Not the wikipedia link please. Wikipedia is not enough to support the said event.

Hi Tiggy, Please do read all of page 1 and the date/time posted and you will know about the "story". Below is a retraction I posted AFTER(its also on page 1). LOL Guys we might've been had. www.azkalsfootballteam.com just retracted the news. @azkal_official: We just wanted to check if people do read the website. And they do! You do! Sorry for the riot, let the real stories begin. No game!!! Addendum: NOW, the only mention of this team playing in the Philippines is the news article I posted above from Cheska Geli that stellarboy mentioned. I don't know who posted at wiki nor have I seen it. I have also been researching the Spanish teams website and Facebook page(I wanted to write a blog entry) and there are NO mention of any games internationally or against the Philippines. As a matter of fact they have a game on Jan 22 2012. The news article mentioned they wanted a Jan 7 game in the first place but they do have a Jan 8 league game too. I am inclined to believe that it is a big hoax but, for a fact, I know that Dan Palami's cohorts do know about this "news" and if it is fake wouldn't they have said anything? Personally I don't think it's going to happen with this particular team. But, personally I also WISH it would happen.

If this website is really the official website of the Azkals, and false news about a friendly match against a third division Spanish club was spread by real officials of Philippine Football, then let me just say that that was a very dangerous and unprofessional thing to do.
It was extremely inappropriate for the leadership of a national team to spread lies just to "check if people read their website". Tsk tsk tsk
Then again, knowing Dan Palami's reputation, he would probably not have authorised such a stupid thing. This is why I highly doubt this website's claim of officiality.
