Sir feinduno..... that is why weiss relagate him to other position to develop him.....but is it enough na punahin ang error nya palagi? ???it work when they play against sri lanka....why all his passes didnt work last night? just a question...... Uh, sinasabi mo ba na laging pinupuna si Chieffy? Tama ba? At tinatanong mo kung bakit gumana yung ginagawa niya sa Sri Lanka pero hindi sa Indonesia?

My only question is how come the coaching staff hasn't tried experimenting with having Chieffy switch flanks from time to time, especially if Angel Guirado is on the opposite wing? Like Angel, Chieffy will drive down to the byline to cross or cut-back but they both also are quite capable of cutting inside towards the penalty area. Chieffy can hit well with both feet, but we know his favored foot is his left. Why don't they play him as an inverted winger within the match from time to time ? In last night's match Chieffy cut inside to the center from the left wing and took a shot with his right, if he was playing as an inverted winger he would have been on his strong foot. I understand that if James YH is on the right it would be hard to switch flanks, as JYH would probably not do so well or wouldn't be too comfortable playing on the left. But if its a Chieffy-Angel combination on the wings, I think both players can switch flanks from time to time (I think these 2 players are comfortable on either wing) during the match to mix things up a bit the way CRonaldo and Di Maria would do for Real Madrid. There were times during the Suzuki Cup when Caligdong was put in as a right winger, with JYH/Gener at LW. But this was when Chieffy was really out of form.

In the same vein when Freddy Gonzalez was the only foreign-trained player in the lineup and as such his performances were more scrutinized, Chieffy, being the only local-trained player in the regular setup. will be more scrutinized. That's human nature- it's more easy to spot the different one. Ganun lang talaga.

Last Suzuki Cup, that would be under McMenemy then right? We've seen how Chieffy has improved since then except for the unfortunate injury which seems to have affected his abilities and form at the moment. That's why I was wondering why the current coaching staff isn't trying that out, especially if the other winger is Angel who also has the ability to play wide or inverted winger. That should make things a bit more unpredictable for the opponent.

It happened to PYH, happened to Ian, to Neil. Even the whole defensive line was subjected to criticism. So I don't know why people react so much when the subject matter being discussed is Chieffy.

Coach defends starting lineup vs Indonesians[/color] By Olmin Leyba (The Philippine Star) Updated June 07, 2012 12:00 AM Comments (0) MANILA, Philippines - One of the questions Azkals coach Michael Weiss had to field from reporters following Phl XI’s 2-2 draw with Indonesia was his decision to field a starting lineup sans first keeper Neil Etheridge, ace striker Phil Younghusband and his brother, reliable wingman James. He said this was to prepare the team for any eventuality. “As I said before, we are using this opportunity to test several options,” Weiss said after the Fifa friendly that saw the Younghusbands come off the bench after the halftime break to score two goals, with Phil averting a loss with his 84th minute equalizer. Weiss worked basically around the same guys who played for Phl XI in an earlier 0-0 draw with Malaysia on the road, with No.2 custodian Roland Muller getting his second consecutive start. He inserted Marwin Angeles vice the absent Stephan Schrock and Dennis Cagara in the leftback spot of injured Juani Guirado. Etheridge had sat out the Malaysia outing to serve his one-game suspension while the Younghusbands missed it due to prior commitment. For the Indonesia game, the trio was sent at the start of the final 45 minutes. “Neil is our No. 1 keeper and he’s proven over the years that we can strongly depend on him. Now, I thought what happens if Neil’s not there? So I was looking for options and I think we found a very good one (Muller) who can easily step in if Neil’s not around,” said Weiss. “If we, for example, play Indonesia in the semis of the Suzuki Cup and Neil is not available because he has a match with his club what are we gonna do? So I have to simulate the situation.” He said it’s basically the same with the Younghusbands. “The brothers were not taken off because they played bad. I’ll have to find other options in the case they’re not there, suspended, injured or whatever. So we’re looking for other options, combinations as we have a bigger pool now,” he said. Weiss complemented his wards for “being very professional.” Phil, who sat beside the German mentor during the gab, merely joked about the matter. “I thought you’d ask me if I didn’t mind that I didn’t start,” he said after Weiss passed him the mike to answer a question about what they did and didn’t like about what transpired in the game, drawing laughter. “Coach is trying different players. I mean, if you saw (Suzuki Cup) game in 2010 versus Indonesia, it’s the other way around – they’re playing possession and we’re playing more defensive. You’ve seen today (last night) how much we’ve grown since 2010. We were in control of the ball, we’re dictating tempo of the game,” he added. The Azkals also liked how they displayed character especially near the end when they played nine men against 10 Indons following the red cards on Chieffy Caligdong and Manny Ott following a bench-clearing altercation. www.philstar.com/sportsarticle.aspx?articleid=814834&publicationsubcategoryid=69

A few observations from my side - 1) Thanks again to Coach Ceburoo for gracing the CHAT room. 2) The lack of available online streaming was a blessing in disguise for me, I did not have to suffer through the game as tabokanon, wiking, stellarboy, and the rest of the usapang_football gang had to go through. LOL. 3) Since I was not able to watch the fight, er, the game, I'll focus on the implications of the "fight". Well, for one, the Azkals once again just reached another milestone in the football world, the world of football RACISM. This is different from the "sexual" racism some Azkals had to go through locally. This one is a black mark of football seen worldwide and is always watched on the radars of FIFA. NO TO RACISM. Secondly, I used to envy the "rivalry" between the US-Mexico football matches. It creates drama, stories, heroes, bad guys, and fills up stadiums. In a stroke, Irfan, Chieffy, and Manny Ott created one for me. Another milestone is achieved - a country rivalry. Because for sure, the next time we play against INDONESIA, I don't care how we do it, JUST BEAT THEM, AZKALS!!!

There is a goaltender controversy as well as other player issues, brewing behind the scenes as a result of Muller starting in the Indonesia game and other roster decisions made in these friendlies. Apparently Neil tweeted that he was disappointed he did not start prior to the game. Neil has a lot of supporters among the media bec. of his long tenure and some of them are taking his side on the issue. It probably didn't make him look good in front of his friends from England(incl. Manchester United and England's centerback Chris Smalling) especially since he proceeded to concede 2 goals in the 2nd half. bleachersbrew.blogspot.no/2012/06/on-that-2-2-draw-between-philippines.htmlAs far as I am concerned, I have no problem starting Roland Muller for this game. After his outstanding performance in the Malaysia game, he deserved to be rewarded. But as I mentioned earlier prior to the match, I had initially expected Neil to start, followed by Roland so I guess I like everybody else was taken by surprise by the experimental lineup. In my opinion Neil overreacted to the decision, but then again I know how prickly goalkeepers can be about their position in the team. That is probably why Roland made it a point before in previous games never to be around when Neil was available. In the very first opportunity that both are present, controversy erupts. It seems that as a result of all this Roland has left camp, knowing that Neil was going to play in the final game against Guam. We now have 2 solid goalkeepers to choose from but it seems that this luxury can both be a bane as well as a boon to our national team. Hopefully both players will eventually bury their egos long enough to consider the best interest of the team and their current form as the deciding factor to who will start.

I just hope the management can sort this thing out, I'm not pointing my fingers here but if Weiss started Etheridge, Muller would surely understand. But you just can't deny how impressive Roland has been, same thing when Neil started defending us between the sticks years back. Etheridge though in his part overreacted, he's not being professional and sport. Sad to say there's always an attitude that will come out no matter what, human nature. The last thing we fans and supporters would want to hear is "both of them hating each other".

Hindsight is 20/20 but maybe it isn't wise to play these guys 50-50. Either play or sit one of them. I don't envy Weiss or DP when they have to make decisions like this.
Did anyone notice how slow Rob Gier was? I've said this before this is trouble when he ventures too far up. We really need someone to be trained as his backup as it is right now we have Margarse(too old) and Van Bossche(but not w/ seniors yet). Maybe its time to bring back Anton(he has played CB w/ Kaya and is a veteran w/ NT anyway). This is the shallowest positions in the senior team I believe and the management has done nothing to shore up this position.
