Just got this interesting tidbit. The Serb coach has actually seen all ten teams (in practice). He is getting ready to take over... I can only dream. I hope he can do something with our HBT team and its abbreviated training schedule.

They are leaving on Feb 5, so only 12 days before leaving. Here is my probable 23 man squad for the training camp : Sacapano ,Pascual ,Gier , del Rosario , Gener , Barbaso , Raymark Fernandez ,Jonsson, Carli,Sabio, Juan Luis Aldeguer Guirado ,James Y , Angel , Chieffy , Margarse , Moy ,Simon Greatwich, Misagh , Phil Y , Nate Burkey and Ian Araneta I got 2 players left : 1 Gk extra and 1 fil-foreigner based abroad or local players will complete the squad. Fernandez is with UP as of the moment, so i doubt he will be released. I think I would add Doctora of Stallion. Ott may be a possibility if there is no conflict of schedule with his camp (Ingolstadt II's league matches will resume in March). Pascual is a question mark due to his recent injury. If only Weiss is watching the UFL matches... Just got this interesting tidbit. The Serb coach has actually seen all ten teams (in practice). Checking Fernandez age , I think it would be better for him to play in Brunei. Maybe also Pascual should be going to Brunei ? Doctora could be going to Dubai. I would not be surprised if the Serb is the new national coach after AFC Challenge Cup.

I would not be surprised if the Serb is the new national coach after AFC Challenge Cup. I think this is what the Serb is actually aiming for, but the only thing is, can we afford him? And if we can't, I hope he doesn't blast us like he did with Nepal. But IF we do well in the Challenge Cup or get reasonable results, a lot of people might decide to keep Weiss. I'm sure if we did, the DFB would be willing to continue subsidizing the coaches salary. Of course that's if he wants to stay with the Philippines too.

Anyway, I'm positive about this development, but I seriously wanna see significant improvements while Weiss would be trusting the locally-based players.

I stand corrected. Bangladesh it is!
Azkals call off Dubai trainingBy Olmin Leyba, The Philippine Star Posted at 01/25/2012 11:48 AM | Updated as of 01/25/2012 11:48 AM MANILA, Philippines -- The Philippine Azkals will no longer get to play Serbian powerhouse FK Partizan Belgrade in their 12-day training camp next month in the UAE after the reigning Serbian SuperLiga champions called off their Dubai sortie. "The Azkals' match with Partizan that's supposed to be held on Feb. 6 will not push through anymore apparently because of visa problems on their part," confirmed Philippine Football Federation (PFF) president Nonong Araneta yesterday. Multi-titled Partizan is under a new coach in Avram Grant, an Israeli. In their website, "The Black and Whites" announced that after the cancellation of their preparation in Dubai, the team is searching for opponents in Israel instead for a planned trip from Jan. 25 to Feb. 8. The Azkals will hold camp in the UAE and Qatar from Feb. 5-17 as a crucial part of their buildup for the AFC Challenge Cup in March in Nepal. With the showdown against the top-flight Serbian club now off, the Azkals will be left with three tune-up matches. Araneta said so far, only Al Ahli Sports Club has confirmed for the Feb. 13 match in Doha, Qatar while negotiations are ongoing for a Feb. 16 duel with the Australian U-23 side in Dubai. The Azkals also are looking for an opponent for a Feb. 10 match in Dubai. While the Azkals hone their skills abroad, the PFF will kick off its grassroots program at home via the "Asian Football Development Program" on Feb. 10-11 in Calamba, Laguna. www.abs-cbnnews.com/sports/01/25/12/azkals-call-dubai-training

MANILA, Philippines - Azkals coach Michael Weiss was not happy with the national football team's performance in a test match at the Rizal Stadium Wednesday afternoon.
With less than 2 weeks before the team heads off to the Middle East for a series of matches, Weiss admitted that the Azkals have lot to improve on.
"The preparation now, as far as the Challenge Cup is concerned, is far from ideal," he said.
However, Weiss does not entirely attribute the team's performance to the players alone.
"It doesn't look so good if I compare this to last week's performance. But on the other hand, if you come together only once a week and meet for only for a short time, the result can really be like that," he explained.
Weiss said the Azkals will have 3 matches abroad.
The team will be in Dubai on February to face the Azerbaijan team and Australian under-23 team.
They will also head to Qatar for a match against Al-Arabi.
He stressed that it is important for the team to meet every day to be able to develop their strategy, defensive tactics and set pieces.
He also hopes to make best use of their limited time, saying that they no longer have the same grip on players as they used to.
Nevertheless, Weiss remains optimistic.
"Hopefully, the team grows together and plays together as we did last week with the Koreans. Because today was not a very outstanding performance," he said.

It seems that Azkals lost 3-2 to Global FC yesterday ?

From the azkals tour UAE page: "Breaking News: It looks like the Azkals will be playing the Uzbekistan national team on the 11th February in Dubai. " If this is the men's team, this is the strongest national team we will have faced so far with a current FIFA ranking of 67 and are regulars and strong contenders(4th in the last edition in 2011) in the Asian Cup. This is also great preparation for the Central Asian teams we will be facing in the AFC Challenge Cup although with the less than full team that the Philippines will be fielding, we would in all probability be outmatched.

If that match proceeds, this is a FIFA ranked match. A match between national teams. So dapat wag tayong matalo. Wag si Sacapano GK dito tiyak basa massacre mangyari since parang Russia kung gumalaw ang Uzbekistan. Since Uzbekistan is former part of Soviet Union. I do hope na may Europe based players na makakalaro in this match.

I doubt this would be classified as a FIFA "A" international match as far as requirements and scheduling is concerned. But hopefully we can get the details as we soon get it. We seriously need the rankings boost.

We seriously need the rankings boost. The difference in an "A" match or not is the number of allowed substitutes not schedules. Since its a training camp/match they will play as many players as they could so I'm sure no ranking will be affected. But there is the Feb 29 FIFA friendly coming up...

Hopefully the tour's organizers would finalize the Azkals' itinerary soon. If there was a replacement for the cancelled Partizan Belgrade friendly, I hope there is.
But we just don't want any conflicting reports as of the moment.
