The last 20 minutes, our Azkals gave the Koreans a torrid time. Quite a few chances for Wolf. The way they played though, I don't think they are initiating their possession using the holding midfielders ... basically, we short-cut our way to the wingers, then the forwards, or straight to the forwards. Thus, we don't have enough play on the ball. Parang minamadali yung laro. When the holding mids get to start the play, we look good. .... good showing though, without the Younghusband brothers.

I'm just putting my thoughts on the game here.
1) It was a nice game for the Azkals united. Our team preformed very well.
2) I'd give credit for our defense for clearing a lot of attempts from the koreans.
3) The man of the match for me is Nestorio Margarse . he did very well on defense and "saved" a goal for Icheon.
4) Its a nice debut for Wolf. Although he could have won the game for the Azkals.
5) Sacapano did well. he saved good shots, and was able to get the clearances.
6) Misagh and Roel gener surprised me it was a good game for both of them. wow Misagh's futsal skills proved useful while Gener's midfield support (he's a defender) helped out the team to get chances on goal.
7) surprisingly again our spaniards (Carli and Angel) missed their penalties wide. I hope this doesn't spark comparison with our homebreeds.

I'm well satisfied with the game aside from the penalty shoot out. Can you say Denis > IA?
Good job by Weiss for using his substitutes. I think he had a good game plan, simple and fit for the skill level of the squad.
*Did you guys see the guy who won the KIA Rio? The guy was on the hefty size and he trotted across the field to get his award, seriously he looked like he was going to pass out or get a heart attack!

Hell yeah, Tiggy!
Seriously though Phil and Denis at forward is 10x better than Phil and Ian and still could be possibly better than Phil and Nate.
He is being interviewed now, he mentions he loves the country and would like to play again with the Azkals. Yeah boooooyy!!!
Since he's getting older(29) I hope he decides to "retire" here, with Global hehehe!
Dragon promotions and KIA also mentions they WILL do this again. Yipeee!
Dyan Castillejo = Hot Ronnie N = stick to boxing and basketball darnit!

And he also said something about some players thinking there superstars already and he appealed to the owners of UFL clubs to have there NT players practice with the National team all the time...

Azkals selection side loses to South Korean team on penaltiesAzkals United, a selection of current and former members of the Philippine national men’s football team, gallantly battled to a 1-all tie against third-tier South Korean club Icheon Citizen FC, only to lose in a penalty shootout, 4-2, in a charity match Saturday night at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium. The Philippine side, which was playing without some of its top players because of United Football League commitments, bucked a 21st minute goal by Icheon striker Bin Tae Kwan, remaining aggressive throughout the match. Azkals mainstays Misagh Bahadoran and Chieffy Caligdong had opportunities early in the second half, but were unable to capitalize. Filipino-German Dennis Wolf, who was making his Azkals debut, also had several attempts that did not bear fruit. Scoring Summary Azkals United Icheon Citizens FC Marwin Angeles (89') Bin Tae Kwan (21') Still, Azkals United kept on the attack, and Marwin Angeles, a member of the Under-23 national squad, broke through with a goal in the 89th minute to equalize. The rules of the friendly provided for no extra time after 90 minutes of play in case of a tied match, necessitating a penalty shootout. The South Koreans knocked in all four of their penalty shots, while Angel Guirado, the first taker for the Philippines, and Carli de Murga, the last, missed their respective attempts. Chieffy Caligdong, who served as the captain for the match, and Ruben Doctora, a former national player, made their attempts for the Azkals. Azkals coach Hans Michael Weiss said he was happy with the result. “I want to congratulate the team, despite the loss,” he said, noting the fighting heart of the team during the comeback. The proceeds of the match are set to go to victims of tropical storm “Sendong,” which affected thousands of families in southern Philippines. It was the second charity match played by a selection composed of Azkals players this month. On January 7, a Philippine selection dropped a 3-0 (sic) result to CF Internacional de Madrid. www.interaksyon.com/interaktv/azkals-selection-loses-to-south-korean-side-on-penalties

Korean club nips Azkals United in penalty shootout, 4-2By Alder Almo (philstar.com) Updated January 21, 2012 10:03 PM MANILA, Philippines – South Korea’s third division champion Icheon Citizen proved to be steadier in a penalty shootout as it escaped with a 4-2 win against against the Azkals United in the Kia Rio Cup charity match tonight at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium. Two weeks after losing to Spanish third division club CF Internacional de Madrid, 1-3, the Azkals United came back from a goal behind in this match only to succumb in the penalty shootout. The Koreans put early pressure on the home team with a goal in the 21st minute courtesy of Bin Tae Kwan. Reeling from the absence of national players Phil and James Younghusband, Lexton Moy, Anton del Rosario and Nate Burkey due to their commitment to their local clubs Loyola Meralco Sparks and Kaya, the Azkals United looked lost on offense for most of the match unable to finish several attacks. The Azkals United, composed of some of the senior and junior national team mainstays and several stars from the United Football League (UFL), seemed headed to a scoreless performance until the final minute of the regulation. Marwin Angeles, a member of the Under-21 national team, flushed in a goal just inside the penalty box off a Misagh Bahadoran corner kick in the 89th minute to the jubilation of the partisan crowd. But the celebration was short lived as the Azkals United yielded the match in the penalty shootout. Azkals United’s Angel Guirado and Carli de Murga’s penalty misses proved costly as Itcheon Citizen converted their first four attempts to run away with the victory. Chieffy Caligdong and Ruben Doctora provided the Azkals United’s two goals in the penalty shootout. The home team actually had a golden chance slipped away in the first half when the debuting Fil-German striker Denis Wolf was fouled inside the penalty box but the referee ruled it outside giving Azkals United only a free kick instead of a penalty kick. Television replay showed Wolf got fouled before jumping out of the penalty box. Nonetheless, Azkals coach Michael Weiss was happy with the result. “I’m proud of this team that played tonight. Given only three days of training, this team played with never-say-die spirit. They showed what they can do and now we can have one more team to build up aside from the senior team,” said Weiss, who is hoping that the UFL will change its stand on the national players. “We need our players to train not only just twice a week for the big tournament ahead of us,” said Weiss referring to the AFC Challenge Cup in March. "I'm hoping that UFL will reconsider its stand." The charity match was produced by Dragon Promotions and ABS CBN Sports for typhoon “Sendong” victims in Cagayan de Oro and Iligan City and landslide in Compostela Valley. www.philstar.com/SportsArticle.aspx?articleId=770119&publicationSubCategoryId=200

My Observations: 1. Sacapano did his job well during the game. His guess were all wrong in Penalty shoot-out. 2. DENIS WOLF is really a GIFT. A perfect combination for PYH. Hope he will be back for Malaysia and Challenge Cup on March. PALITAN NA SI ARANETA!!! ;D 3. Their game is much better than their previous friendly games. 4. They played without some notable star players. Imagine if Kaya and Meralco released their Azkal players. Will it be a different score? CONCLUSION: Nakikipaglaban na tayo sa mga malalakas. Halatang nahihirapan ang ICFC sa AU kanina. Ang dami nating chances Sa Penalty Shootout: PARANG SA AFC CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FINALS AH HAHA 1. Same score 4-2 2. Talo ang home ;D
Sayang nakalusot lang ang ICFC kaya nakagoal. Kung inawardan sana tayo ng Penalty kick NOW LOOKING FORWARD FOR DUBAI TRAINING. WE ARE NOW COMPETITIVE Weiss is on the right track. hehe THEY SHOULD ALSO TRAIN OUR GK's AGAINST PENALTY SHOOTOUT Dito talaga nagkakatalo

Wicked awesome match! It could have gone both ways really, Icheon's goal was good, but the Philippines' equalizer was just a stunner. Ian Araneta sucked ass though. As always. I wanna see how Phil and Denis play together up front, seriously, shelve Araneta whenever possible.
Too bad for the pens though, its as if they didn't practice. That last kick went into the sky.
I wonder what the trouble outside the gate after the game was all about though. There was some shouting going on.

Ganda ng laro nila. Considering na wala yung ibang regular Azkals.
Yung 3rd na nag-penalty sa Azkals, ang swabe lang nung pagkasipa. Walang pressure pressure.

Everybody seem so happy by losing to third division amateur club from South Korea , I post a comment from my blog : "It's pointless to call Icheon FC a "third-tier club", because there are only two tiers in South Korean professional football system, K-League (1st Div.) and National League (2nd Div.). Knowing K-League is the most consistently strong side in AFC Champions League it may be surprising that they have only two tiers, but it's understandable in that they export a lot of players to other countries' leagues, and that South Korea is basically much more of baseball-crazy country when it comes to domestic sports. Apart from the two professional tiers, there is a nationwide amateur league called K-Challengers League, where Icheon FC belongs to, so it may not be technically wrong to call them a 3rd tier club. However, Challengers League is run independently from professional leagues and therefore there's no promotion/relegation to/from upper leagues. So in this case, "3rd tier" doesn't mean what it's supposed to mean, and actually there is a huge gap between 2nd and 3rd tier. Even University League teams in general of South Korea are much stronger than Challengers League clubs. This is why i was disappointed when i first knew Azkals were inviting Icheon FC. At first i thought it was Incheon United FC (K-League) or at least Incheon Korail FC (National League), but later i found out that it was ICHEON, a completely different small city from INCHEON, and I was like "WTF?? They're just amateurs! It's a charity match on home soil! Not just a practice match! Then bring some stronger opponent!!". But now i realize that, without some key players, Azkals are no better than pure amateurs from S.Korea. A ty game. Both sides sucked tonight." www.filipinofootball.blogspot.com/2012/01/azkalm-selection-side-loses-to-south.html

Jonny why even entertain that crap comment. If it is not a 3rd tier club what is it? K - League is professional, National League is semi pro not professional like the commenter said and Challenger is amateur.
The commenter also said the "Azkals" INVITED this team which we know isn't true. The NT never invited this team?! He also called the team the "Azkals" which they weren't technically as the team was composed of former(retired from NT duties) members, youth team members and other true none members hence the "Azkals United" moniker. C'mon, Gener and Margarse are what, 36 plus and Gier is 31? Hell, the goal scorer was never an "Azkal"!The commenter has been watching too many La Liga games I think.
This was a charity match used by the NT coach to 'practice' some of his NT players hence not a TRUE test/practice/friendly match. There were 2 true starting NT players, Chieffy, Gier and even Angel would be subbing if Mulders were around. 1 new overseas player with 2 days of practice. This is not the true "Azkals" despite the name.
I hope that commenter gets off of the Philippine NT, he is not the type of fan we need anyway. UNINFORMED. Tell him to stick to EPL and La Liga, he'll be happy then.
The only thing "pointless" was his diatribe.
