lack of preparation should not be the reason, as i pointed out they had a lot of time to prepare the team from the selection up to the formal training, that is since the end of the under 23 tourney....we need to admit we suck big time.....PFF should use this as a bitter lesson to improve...now the question is when they will start developing the guys....maybe a month before the asean 2013 commence...hope not....

They need to dedicate resources to this team. These are young players, their preparation and training should be continuous. Unlike the senior team who have the benefit of calling up more seasoned and mature pros playing in Europe to play alongside seasoned and mature local based players, thus requiring less time and preparation to integrate into the team, even our foreign-based U23 players are still in the early stages of their footballing abilities and development. This group of players need constant exposure and experience to not only to gel as a team but for their further development too.
Even if they prepare 3-4 months in advance, if the training is all local and get only exposed to local competition, given the low standard and quality of our domestic football in comparison to the strong teams in our region, I think this will not be enough especially for our local based players.
These kids need exposure against tough opponents and experience playing against quality opposition. Our local based players who show lots of promise deserve these opportunities in relation to the prospects of their continuing development as players. Some investment must be made into the progress of our youth pool and not only rely on their exposure to local competitions. That's why I hope the U21 qualified players from this U23 team will be sent to the Bolkiah Cup U21 tournament in Brunei in February next year along with other promising U21 players who will be projected to join the core of our 2013 U23 team. Since the senior squad will have the Suzuki Cup this year and the AFC Challenge Cup, I hope they send our 2013 U23 team to compete in this year's Long Teng Cup. Also, PFF and management should arrange for as many training camps abroad for this group of players whenever possible - U.S., Middle East, Japan, Europe, all the way up to the next SEA Games. You can bet that our neighbors are not going to sit on their asses also. All that investment is going to pay off anyway as a good number of these guys are likely going to be the ones who'll be part of the senior squad for the 2014 Suzuki Cup by then and for the 2018 World Cup qualifiers.
Looking back at this campaign, it was obvious there was lack of preparation. The line-up was weird which accounts for the constant experimentation and tinkering with the line-up that had players having to deal playing out of their natural positions. Our defense leaves much to be desired and badly needs work and improvement.
Our losses against Vietnam and Myanmar shows how much catching up we have to do and the hard work that lies ahead if we need to credibly challenge the big boys in our region at this level. The loss against Timor Leste serves to remind us that nobody in the region is standing still and that if we don't get ourselves sorted out at the youth and grassroots level, we could even find ourselves being overtaken by countries considered lower ranked than we are. Our dramatic victory against Laos shows that this group of players have heart, spirit and passion - good qualities to build upon. Our loss against Brunei shows that the group has a lot of promise and potential particularly at an individual level but still needs a lot of polishing up in that area and as a team. 20+ shots and only one goes in, Brunei only needed 9 shots to win that match. What does that say? Unlucky, perhaps. Knowing already that we got a crappy defense, the least that could have been done was to make some of those shots count, at least for an opponent such as Brunei. Yes we were quite unlucky, but there were also instances also of glory-hunting, lack of composure in front of goal and poor decision-making. Considering that our players are quite young, these point to a need to provide these promising players more opportunities to gain experience and develop further individually and as a team.
Dan Palami said that he will make an effort to dedicate more resources to this team, please do that Dan. I also hope the PFF and other entities step up too. It's the least that can be done for the team who played their hearts out.

I Just think weis is poor at man management (picking the starting and rotation) but his tactics are great for our NT (especially our attack). He just not have the right pieces unlike our Senior national team. His biggest flaw is not trusting the younger guys to play the big games.

Our under-23 team is a diamond in the rough. I hope they designate a full-time coach for this team. Coach Weiss (or any other coach) has too much on his hands with the senior team.
Also, if it were up to me, I'd give Weiss another chance. Remember that he has also made his contributions to the Azkals and Philippine football.
Let's not cry over spilled milk. I, for one, have now set my sights on the LA Galaxy match.

What's forgotten in all these discussions is how the team's performance during this tournament will affect our chances of joining the 2013 SEA games. Remember that we did not send a squad during the 2007 despite the Philippines' good performance during the 2005 edition. Although there is hope, with Palami promising to keep the U-23 for 2013. sports.inquirer.net/25191/palami-to-keep-u-23-azkals-for-2013-despite-seag-defeatbut then again, you could re-read MIke Limpag's article as posted in reply #72 on this thread.

Just a curious question: do SEAG football games have bearing on the FIFA Ranking? Thanks!

Can Coach Mcnemy coach the U23 just a suggestion? Nope. 1.) He's managing a Club. 2.) It will raise comparison against Coach Weiss (since Mcmenemy have handled the Seniors squad previously)
