Sine POC together with PFF have started talking about Azkals Under-23 campaign in SEA Games in Indonesia late this year, we might as well start a thread about it. Azkals medal in SEA Games highly probable, says POC presidentBy Marc Anthony Reyes Philippine Daily Inquirer First Posted 23:28:00 02/10/2011 MANILA, Philippines—The Azkals now have a shot at a medal in the Southeast Asian Games. Top sports officials echoed this sentiment on Thursday following the Philippine football team’s 2-0 triumph over Mongolia in the first leg of their Asian Football Confederation Challenge Cup qualifying on Wednesday night in Bacolod City. Philippine Olympic Committee president Jose “Peping” Cojuangco said that if the team continued to play at a high level, the country would have a strong chance to win a medal in the Indonesia SEA Games on Nov. 11-25. “They need to play more together, spend more time training together and we’ll see a better team,” said Cojuangco during a sports forum on radio on Thursday. “The victory of the Azkals woke up the sleeping love for football in the country, something that we have been waiting for a very long time,” said Philippine Sports Commission chair Richie Garcia. “PSC will surely support the program of football development in the country. We will try to have more venues that can host events like last [Wednesday] night,” Garcia said. i can't see any reason why filipinos won't make any impact in the global football scene, as long our sport leaders would honestly do their jobs.

(March 19, 2010) The Filipino booters finally lived up to their “Miracle Team” billing with a huge 6-2 upset of Brazil last Thursday in the Deloitte Street Child World Cup indoor football tournament in Durban, South Africa. Shrugging off a 0-2 loss to Tanzania 2 days ago, the RP squad, led by coach Jess Landagan, worked like a well-oiled soccer machine, surging to a 4-1 halftime lead before scoring two more goals in the next period in wrapping up the monumental win in front of a roaring South African gallery. It marked the first time that the Philippines beat Brazil, a world football power, at the international level. The victory boosted the team, co-managed by Craig Burrows of Britain, into the shield competition after finishing the Group B preliminaries with a 1-2 win-loss slate. “We prayed for a breakthrough for the RP ‘Miracle Team,’ and it was answered in a big way with this win over the Brazilians,” said co-manager Ed Formoso, who again thanked British charity Angus Lawon Memorial Trust for making the stint possible. www.abs-cbnnews.com/sports/03/19 ... zil-soccer ;D this shows that filipinos by nature are talented ones, just imagine our football players on the grassroots level can keep up with the best in the world(in fact rp beat brazil), but i think their improvements stop there unlike the players from other nations which continues to improve bec. the interest in football in their country never wane, unlike here in our country , talented kids loose interest to continue to play this game simply bec. their's no career to make out in playing football in this country, hopefully with the azkals momentum all of these could change. ;D here's another link: www.google.com.ph/imglanding?q=philippines+vs.+brazil+6-2+indoor+soccer&um=1&hl=tl&tbs=isch:1&tbnid=9agjhX_aMD-YyM:&imgrefurl=http://iamxhein.tumblr.com/&imgurl=http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_kzm69hfXoE1qzbky1o1_

Totoo. Kung bata-sa-bata ang labanan, we have a chance against big time football nations. We have also been doing well in the Gothia Cup, another bata-sa-bata competition. But the problem is, our kids don't have anywhere to go in terms of taking their game to a higher level. Unlike in Brazil and in England, for example, where there are football clubs that have multi-level development programmes. Hopefully, once the professional league gets going, the league contenders can start designing these multi-level programmes and gradually implement them.

This Sea Games is significant taking into account it is scheduled late into 2011. A good showing here will be a great way to end the year.
This staging is even more significant for us as our performance can be an indicator of the future of the Azkals as this being U23 event.

Etheridge or Greatwich Phl XI skipperBy Joey Villar (The Philippine Star) Updated February 18, 2011 12:00 AM MANILA, Philippines – Fil-Britons Neil Etheridge and midfield Simon Greatwich appear to be front runners for the position of team skipper of Philippine Azkals team to the 26th Southeast Asian Games slated Nov. 11-25 in Jakarta, Indonesia. Current team skipper Aly Borromeo and manager Dan Palami felt either Etheridge or Greatwich, members of the RP squad that beat the Blue Wolves of Mongolia, 2-0, in their AFC Challenge Cup duel last Feb. 9, would fit the bill for the Jakarta-bound Azkals. “They’re (Etheridge and Greatwich) both capable but we’ll see what happens when we already have the team,” said Palami during his visit to The STAR with some members of the Azkals and Philippine Football Federation officials Wednesday. “I think Neil Etheridge would do but he’s not here often though,” said Borromeo. “Simon Greatwich could too,” he added. Palami, however, said the two players could be named co-captains of the Under-23 SEAG squad. “That’s possible but we will wait for the team to be completed before we decide on it,” said Palami. Among the current members of Azkals, only six are eligible to play since the SEA Games allows only players 23-years old and younger to see action in the biennial meet. Aside from the 21-year-old Etheridge, who plays for Fulham in the English Premier League, and Greatwich, also 21, who is with the Hartwick Hawks in college, 20-year-old midfielder Jason de Jong, 21-year-old David Basa and Fil-Germans 19-year-old Mark Drinkuth and 18-year-old Manuel Ott are shoo-ins for the team. The rest of the slots will be filled after the PFF stages a regional Under-23 tournament where the best players from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao are expected to vie for berths. ;Dwell even if etheridge won't be available on sea games 2011 late this year, i think it's not gonna be much of a problem for the azkals. for the team has a young formidable gk reserve in the person of christopher camcam, i've heard some good things about this kid, can anyone share some infos about the kid, thanks. ;D
