@fadski: I like our local defenders to be honest. Neckson Leonora played very well and is very fast when he played against Global. The kid Fernandez, Weiss(or was it Palami?) said in an interview that they were very excited about him. Unfortunately I couldn't tell as my attention was with other players during the Azkal-Kaya match. He played in both Azkal games as CB. Anyway, winning starts with defense, so we've got a good base to start with.
@stellar: Wow 10-0, they must really look down on Philippine soccer! We will see, just a few more days.

@stellar: Wow 10-0, they must really look down on Philippine soccer! We will see, just a few more days. Yes, even fans agreed to it according to a Taiwanese soccer forum I've read lately. I could remember last year that the Azkals drew them 1-1, and they were really sore. Chen Bo-liang expected that they would win 5-0 against the Azkals (who were preparing for AFF Suzuki Cup 2010 then). Guess that shot from Ian Araneta and that stable defense line of Anton-RobG-AlyB-Jonsson shocked them the most. Now they're really serious about putting them down now we're sending out our younger players. We'll see about that if these Taiwanese could outmatch these young players of ours, Euro-players and locals.

The Republic of Ireland has not been part of the UK since 1922, though Northern Ireland chose to stay with the British. Nevertheless, the analogy is appropriate, Chinese Taipei and Hong Kong are recognized by FIFA as separate federations from that of the People's Republic of China just like England, Wales, N. Ireland, and Scotland are separate in spite of being under one Kingdom. I'm interested, though not convinced, in James' abilities in CB. It'll be really interesting to see how well he does if he's placed there. Weiss seems to like the idea. Off-topic: Q: When you meet an Irish in a pub, do you toast to the Pope or to the Queen? Sorry for the lumping together ;D I am just emphasizing that they were basically related and in fact there is only 1 Irish NT up to 1950 then they split up, hence my previous post On-topic: If Chinese-Taipei plays like Vietnam or Indonesia, Weiss penchant for Golden Pep tactics(3-4-3) and with the performance of the AzKals defense as displayed against UFL teams, maybe a score of 10-0 is possible

On-topic: If Chinese-Taipei plays like Vietnam or Indonesia, Weiss penchant for Golden Pep tactics(3-4-3) and with the performance of the AzKals defense as displayed against UFL teams, maybe a score of 10-0 is possible Are you with Chinese-Taipei or against them? If you said so, that 10-0 will be theirs if the Azkals played like their game vs. Global FC, where everything was OK until James YH broke open the defense without knowing, and if Aly B will play lousy like he did with Kaya during the invitational. Otherwise, the 10-0 will be ours if Carli and the Hartmanns will stay focus on what they are now. Mark H. and Phil Yh must be solid all throughout. A solid defense must be kept with while focusing on our wingers. Chieffy and maybe Lexton Moy, Angel Guirado or Jason de Jong could do wonders for us then? Just saying. ;D

Here is my take on our Azkals in the LTC.
Between Chieffy, Phil and Mark, I think we should be able to score or rather we have scoring threats. Phil and Chieffy can score against almost anyone who is more or less around our FIFA rankings. We know, Mark can score in bunches but the lack of international experience might be an issue. Or, hopefully, it might not. Under the present circumstances I think these 2 are the best possible personnel for the striking side.
We are quite thin at midfield with higher level competition experience I think. Besides Chieffy at LW and Angel at attacking mid, who do we put for RW and defensive mid?
For the fullbacks, I've always believe a good defense is the solid base for a team game, so I would have Carli at RB and Ali B and JYh at CB. Carli and Ali are used to those position, thats a positive. JYh has speed and height enough to, hopefully, compensate for rookie mistakes he might suffer.
That leaves left back, defensive mid and right wing as a question marks. This is the time we start to miss delRo, Gier and Jonsson. Although, we have Lexton Moy(if he is not injured), Matthew and Leonora(who both did well at LB), Jeff Christiaen might well show up as a starter for the right wing spot. He can and has played l, r and center mid before. If Jason de Jong cannot come around maybe Oliver P can play at the defensive midfield position. He is 24 and shouldn't be over awed with the competition even if he has never played international games before(please correct me if I'm wrong), he is supposed to play as a right winger and center mid too, so it shouldn't be too difficult a transition for him to play defensive mid.
Of course this line up is IF Weiss uses the customary 4-4-2, or variation, he usually uses.
Mueller Carli-------JYh-------AliB-------? Oliver P. Jeff Christiean-------Chieffy Angel PhilYh-------MarkHartmann
I think the days of us getting 13-0 or 10-0 drubbing is long gone, but that's if we stay the course.
vimjonk, its times like these I wish for Mcmenemy...

I'm interested in how the combination of Borromeo and J Younghusband in central defence will shape up (if Weiss does try it). I see it is as something like the combination of Vidic and Ferdinand for Man Utd, Vidic (Aly) as the strong, aerially dominant one and Ferdinand (James) as the cultured, technically proficient one.
10-0, eh? They couldn't even get a win against us back when we were rubbish. Heh. Let the fools dream.

"10-0?!" Ooo I hope we take them down and make them cry. I was cautiously optimistic until now. Now I want them to truly pay for their gross underestimation.

Their remarks make me so riled up. I hope we end up putting them out of their misery. Any scoreline above 3-0 for us would do!

Maybe someone here who knows any azkal player should tell what this Taiwan NT said about beating them 10-0, would certainly give them an extra boost the kick some Taiwanese a**....

Don't worry guys. Let the Taiwanese get overconfident. It takes time for other countries to understand that the Azkals are a much stronger team than we have had in the past. That is why we have had difficulty getting other nations to play a friendly against us. It is always better to get a win while playing the role of underdog like we did in the Suzuki Cup. With the addition of our young European based professional players to the lineup, I think we have a good chance of doing better than last year.
As for the status of Hongkong as a FIFA member, another analogy would be the Philippines national football team and the Dutch East Indies fielding separate teams before WWII when the Philippines and Indonesia where nominally under US and Dutch occupation. Allowing the home countries of the UK at the very beginning of FIFA to have their own separate teams unlike the situation you find in the IOC, set a precedent for other countries to do the same.

stellarboy, Can you cite those translated articles that belittle the Philippine's chances? it would be nice to post those in the Azkal's locker room to serve as extra motivation.

That "10-0" prediction was from Google+ post from a Taiwan NT fan (or was it a player?). I don't have enough time to search that again, but if I could remember correctly here's what he posted: "菲律賓隊0:10中華隊!!!!" (Philippines 0:10 Chinese Taipei!!!!!!) I know it's just some over-rated speculation because I think that Taiwan NT player/fan was really sore about the loss last year. Fans even replied to this post with profanities which I won't post because of forum guidelines. But for the love of the game, let's be fair. We love all of them and we have to help each other, no?

Seems like only half the Azkals have left. They're in 2 separate flights.
Lexton Moy: Qued Up at Cathy waiting for only half the squad, turns out the other half is on a later flight... More sleep for them! Bang bang...
Too bad they weren't informed about the "10-0" talk. Could've been a big big motivation. Hopefully Philippine OFW's will show the love in Taiwan. They've been there for the Azkals all over the world, it shouldn't change now.
Go Azkals!!
add... Guess who's on the later flight? From Aly B: En route to Taiwan! Where's the staff and coaches??
