Thanks for the links stellarboy and caz. too bad I can't read mandarin but I can imagine they are just as passionate about their team as we are with ours. It is kind of interesting that of the four teams invited to this Cup,we are the only one can who can't understand the language and has no ties to China. Fortunately we have Lexton Moy to translate for them, although I am not sure he is fluent in Mandarin either. I think he learned Cantonese from his parents, although he probably learned some of it during his stay in Hongkong.

I ran this blog post through Google Translate. Not sure if I understood this right, but the blogger seems to spinning some prominence on the match against HK due to the bus hostage crisis last year. blog.yam.com/fba8881/article/31206843This page came up pretty high in Google Search. I do hope this won't be the emphasis of the match and we'll all just play football.

According to weather reports, tropical depression "Quiel" (international name: "Nalgae") will make landfall in the Babuyan Islands by Friday evening or Saturday morning. This will mean that it will mostly affect northern Luzon and southern Taiwan including Kaohsiung. I hope this weather system will not greatly affect the Long Teng Cup fixtures.
tweet from Mark Hartmann:Landed in HK ! : ) 4 hour wait for the connection flight
tweet from James Younghusband:In Hong Kong airport waiting for our next flight with @markyhartmann
I think airlines are still avoiding "Pedring" ("Nesat") so they had to stopover to Hong Kong before heading to Taiwan. Hopefully they come to Taiwan safe.

I do hope this won't be the emphasis of the match and we'll all just play football. I was curious how "political" they wanted to make the LTCup(against the PI) so I read it. It seems its just a blogger/reporters personal comment and not the organizers wish or intent. Anyway here, for those who want to read: China Times [Li Hongbin / Taipei] Dragon Cup International Football Tournament will be held from 8 to 12 next month, the Chinese Football Association chairman, said Lu Kun Shan, Hong Kong side attaches great importance to this competition, prepare for the Guangzhou Asian Games as an important event, more than 10 media interviews intended to Taiwan. China wants to seize this opportunity to earn world ranking points lift. International Football Association (FIFA) for the past four years of international competition results to calculate the points and rankings, Taiwan in August last year, earned the East Asian football preliminaries of the integral of the weight over a year and a half has been less a total of 15 points difference , ranking and then fell to 170 from 165, rely on the Dragon Cup "mend." (Taiwan 172 as of today, wiking)The remaining three teams invited competition, the beginning and I played friendlies in the Philippines, currently ranked 165, 197 Macao, Hong Kong is the strongest 136. The team sent the Asian Games in Hong Kong to visit Taiwan, in addition to players age 23 years of age, but also recruited the other four over-age striker Chen Zhaoqi internationals. China Taiwan Hong Kong Football Association locking the biggest selling points for the Dragon Cup, surprise, took place on the hijacked Hong Kong tourists killed in the Philippines, "823 Incident", so Dragon Cup Match 1, Hong Kong and the Philippines War unexpected prominence. However, Lu Kun Shan believes that the Asian Games in Hong Kong mainly focus attention only so much emphasis on the Dragon Cup.
Philippines Team 2 will also arrived in Taiwan in advance, ready to go first to the ground team warm-up, play another Dragon Cup.

Let alone their "political" intentions! I don't think it will go as far as making this hostage crisis as a reason to win over the Azkals. Speaking of which, the Hong Kong fans in a local soccer forum there are now threatened to our Azkals/U-23 squad! And they're afraid the Hong Kong NT might lose to them! They're basically threatened to Lexton Moy, the Younghusband brothers, the Hartmann brothers, the Euro-players and Misagh Bahadoran. They are threatened to Lexton since he has played their NT during his club career in Hong Kong. (And even to the point of questioning his eligibility to play for the PI.) They're threatened to the Younghusbands and Bahadoran because of their performance during the WCQ against Kuwait. And they're very curious of how the Euro-based players and the Hartmanns will perform this LT Cup. They even posted YouTube links of the matches during the Azkals' Germany training camp. And they're saying they are surprised. You may follow the thread here (in Chinese): www.goalgoalgoal.com/thread-303160-1-1.html Seems to it they are awestruck to us now.

Threatened, really? Wow, for the Philippine side that's good to hear, the days when Philippines are an automatic win for the opponents are long gone indeed!! I'm sure glad you can offer comments about what the other side is talking about stellar. It brings in a better perspective and feel for the upcoming match. I suppose Lexton was a very competent player in HK? His team was in the 1st division(top div) when he played there and they probably noticed his good work rate! Thanks for the link, I'll check it out too. Keep us informed

Yeah, I was a bit annoyed by that blogger's post. I agree that it's his personal spin on things. But I'm glad to hear about stellar's find in an HK football fan forum! It's tough to scout opinions about the LT Cup since, as cjeagle pointed out, we're the only predominantly non-Chinese-fluent country in it. I found some Azkals fans who do speak (and post) in Chinese in the FB event page, by the way. So we're not totally in the dark.

I translated the forum that stellar provided and I just stopped laughing now. The translator isn't that good but its great for laughs. But anyway, it seems they are curious about how the European named players got to play for the Philippine team. Obviously they cannot understand dual citizenship(as I understood using the translator). Anyway another forummer(is this even a word? ) is quite impressed about our Roland Mueller "world class goalkeeping" is how he stated it. At the very least we have respect now in our part of the world. I can't wait for Friday!!!

Here is another response in another forum by a Hongkong fan in English in response to my query about what they think about us:
I will say generally the fans are very concerned about last year's narrow win by the U23 team. This year with the A team (missing the mainland Chinese players who converted to HK nationality, due to visa issues), we hope to win more comfortably, but of course we are aware that the Phillippines and Chinese Taipei have improved a lot since last year. We want to win to get more points in the FIFA ranking, that's why we are sending the A team.
We miss some players (I wish Godfred Karikari could play but he is still waiting for his HK passport!!!) and Liu Chun-Fai is just a caretaker coach, so this tournament is not going to affect any plans.
______________
I think Karikari (sounds like a Filipino dish ;D) is a native of Ghana who is scheduled to receive his HK passport in November.

It's good that we have earned their respect, even at the very least of things.
Remember the initial bashing of Indonesian fans during the 2010 AFF Suzuki Cup? Our team was once being mocked and spit upon because they were underdogs who lately made an upset (against Vietnam). However the 2-0 score in favor of Indonesia was surprising to the point that it shocked their crazy fans at the Bung Karno Stadium. They were expecting a double-digit drubbing against the Azkals but it never happened, and this made them realize that the Philippine team has indeed improved.
Respect is the key factor for everyone to improve. Yes, other nationalities can argue here and there against us, but in good hope our neighbours will eventually become aware of what have become for Philippine football. I hope that this Long Teng Cup will help these East Asian nations earn their respect to us.

BTW I also google translated that forum. Somebody keeps on mentioning he misses package wonton so mcuh. Is that Lexton Moy? That translation is hilarious. Do you mean this text: "I MISS 包雲吞 SO MUCH." The phrase "包雲吞" is a term for fried stuffed wonton wrappings. I don't know if he means the actual thing (is he hungry?) or is this an endearment for someone else? (Lexton Moy?) Anyways, one forum member posted a question that asks if everyone in the forum would agree that the strength of the Philippine team so far is slightly better than what they had during the 2010 Suzuki Cup. One member agrees to that.
