Hong Kong fielding best NT in Long Teng CupHong Kong FA chairman confirmed that Hong Kong will field a senior NT in Long Teng Cup "to improve FIFA rankings".
To give you a background of our opponents, I'm posting each national team below. Hong Kong (HKG) Rank (August 2011): 154 The Hong Kong national football team represents Hong Kong in international association football matches like AFC Asian Cup, FIFA World Cup and also the EAFF East Asian Football Championship. Supervised by the Hong Kong Football Association, this team has also been representing Hong Kong in many other international football events prior to 1997 when it was a settlement of the United Kingdom. The United Kingdom handed Hong Kong to the People’s Republic of China and Hong Kong is now a special administrative region of the People’s Republic of China in 1997. This is a separate team from the national team of the People’s Republic of China and as per the Basic Law and the principle, One country, two systems, it allows Hong Kong to have their own representative teams in any of the international sports events. Tsang Wai Chung is the head coach of this team. Most of the caps were achieved by Lee Wai Man with 68 caps and Chan Siu Ki took 26 goals, which are the maximum goals ever achieved by the player. This team is ranked at 135 by FIFA rankings. The team men squad for long term training session is selected by the new coach, Tsang Wai Chung. The Hong Kong team plays their home matches at the Hong Kong Stadium and the venue is the precise place where they are hosting the annual international matches known as the Carlsberg Cup which is a part of the festivities to celebrate the Chinese New Year. There is also another ground, namely the Siu Sai Wan Sports Ground, which is used by this team in Chai Wan along with the Mong Kok Stadium in Mong Kok. Hong Kong Football Team has never qualified for the World cup. Nevertheless, its most celebrated triumph happened during 1986 World cup qualifying. On Nineteen Might 85, within Beijing, Hong Kong Football Team faced China within the Final match of the first being qualified spherical, in which Hong Kong Football Team necessary victory to advance while China needed only a draw. Hong Kong, led simply by trainer Kwok Ming, created The 2-1 upset win, with targets through Cheung Chi Hav as well as Ku Kam Fai, thus successful the actual group as well as advancing towards the knockout stage, in which it subsequently dropped to be able to Japan.

Macau (MAC) Rank (August 2011): 192 Macau national football team (traditional Chinese: 澳門足球代表隊; Portuguese: Selecção Macaense de Futebol) represents the Macau Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China in international football. The team is supervised by the Macau Football Association (traditional Chinese: 澳門足球總會; Portuguese: Associação de Futebol de Macau). The Macau football team has a ranking that is one of the lowest among the FIFA members. Although usual known as simply Macau, the EAFF refer to the team as Macau, China. The team had been representing Macau in international football events before 1999 when Macau was a dependent territory of Portugal. It continues to represent Macau even after Macau was handed over to the People's Republic of China by Portugal and became a special administrative region of the People's Republic of China in 1999. This team is separate from the China national football team, as the Basic Law and the principle of "One Country, Two Systems" allows Macau to maintain its own representative teams in international sports competitions. In Macau, the Macau football team is colloquially referred as the "Macau team" (Chinese: 澳門隊), while the China national football team is referred as the "national team" (Chinese: 國家隊).

Chinese Taipei (TPE) Rank (August 2011): 165 The Chinese Taipei Football Association (CTFA) was founded in mainland China as the China Football Association in 1924 and relocated to Taiwan in 1949 at the end of the Chinese Civil War. Affiliated with FIFA in 1932 as China, it rejoined FIFA in 1954, first under the name Taiwan, then Republic of China, and later Chinese Taipei. The team's greatest success came when, playing as Taiwan, they finished third in the Asian Cup in 1960. However, the players in the team originally came from Hong Kong since the reputation of the Hong Kong national football team was not as good as the Republic of China's.[clarification needed] Due to a political conflict with China PR, Chinese Taipei was an OFC member from 1975 to 1989. Tatung F.C. and Taipower F.C. are the most popular football clubs in Taiwan. Chinese Taipei National Football Team‘s greatest good results emerged when, playing as Taiwan, these people done third within the Asian Cup within 1960. However, players inside the staff originally came from City because the reputation of the actual Chinese Taipei National Football Team was not just like the Republic regarding China’s.

Hello gents! Its ok to disagree with each other. After all its all conjecture until the real roster comes out. Having said that, Ive always felt, and as much as I love Jonsson and Rob G, eventually someones gonna have to take over. The reason I mentioned Nate B for CB is because of his huge size(at about 6'2+) and quickness and strenght(over RG). Note I didnt say he could be better than RG specially with veteran leadership and experience. If you have followed Aly B's career, you'd see that he also plays mid and have actually scored goals in UFL games. He and Anton D are great utility players capable of moving around in positions. Having said that why not try Nate at CB too? Move the smaller, yet quick Sabio at LB, since Jonsson is unavailable. Theres plenty of midfielders available for the LT cup even without the europlayers anyway. Having two large Center Backs would be a great advantage in crossings and corner kicks defensively(providing NB can play the position) Whats your take? NOTE: Unfortunately Robs Ascot U is out of the FA cup. They lost within the last 10 min of the match! The RB's and LB's need to be faster cause they usually join the attack along with their respective wings. Anton and Sabio would be perfect for that positions. Aren't DM the same as CB, they protect the mid? So why not try Burkey in the center defence (plus he is fast and tall so he can surely get the possession back)! Hi jvictor, if you put Sabio at outside then youll have a hole in the Center Back position. Unless Weiss pulls out someone from the U23. Sabio has started at that position already and has adequate height too. Also, RG isn't gonna be available for the LT Cup. Thats actually how I and stellar started playing armchair coach and plugging in NB at CB. Off course its not gonna happen but who else is there you can plug in at CB fast enough and tall enough? Center Backs play deeper than a defensive mid, as in last line before the goal itself.

Hong Kong FA Chairman Brian Leung confirmed that the full national team will be in Taiwan to defend the Long Teng Cup, in order to hopefully improve HK's FIFA rankings. But players of Kitchee, TSW Pegasus, Tuen Mun and EAG13 will miss the tournament because they have to play in the Senior Challenge Shield.

Ok here is my Long Teng Cup lineup knowing most of our Euro players will be missing(U23 reinforced though). Take it with a grain of salt will ya...
Mueller del Rosario - Sabio - Borromeo - de Jong J. Younghusband - Ott - S. Greatwich - Caligdong Guirado - P. Younghusband
I think this line up could be very competitive though it could be better with the Euro guys involved.
yours?

Skill wise i think Azkals' players have advantage. Team work... Hong Kong and Chinese Taipei are on advantage against us since they been playing/ practicing together more often than our team. Man to watch: R.Mueller! Can't wait!

I dunno about skill wise dan. They(Hong Kong) are "statistically" better than us using the FIFA rankings. Also, we're not going to be fielding our A-team for the LT cup. Having said that, neither are they. I think its going to come down to which coach has the best game plan. Ala Mcmenemy when we beat Vietnam and tied Singapore last year. One of the reasons Im very excited about this game is, I'd like to see how the Azkals are going to play compared to the Azkals of last year and this years WCQ. Are they going to suck because they'd be missing a lot of their mainstays, or... USELESS INFO: Lowest FIFA Rankings: Hong Kong 90 (1993); Philippines 149 (Dec2010); Macau 156 (1997); Taiwan 144 (2006) Current: Philippines: 162 HK: 154 Macau: 192 Taiwan: 169

But this is nevertheless exciting. If Weiss is gonna up the ante over the NT sans Euro-defenders, we'll wonder what comes up next.

More of the same news. I hope this really confirms de Jong and Ott's participation though. Azkals gearing up for Long Teng Cup; 5 members won’t playWednesday, August 31st, 2011, 03:25 pm | Posted by Robert De Leon MANILA, Philippines – Five players of the Philippine football team Azkals will not be playing in the forthcoming Long Teng Cup, which will be held next month in Taiwan. Among those who will not be able to play on that leg include the Azkals goalkeeper Neil Etheridge, Rob Gier, Jerry Lucena, Paul Mulders and Stephan Schrock. The aforesaid players have commitments in their respective clubs in Europe, the reason why they cannot join the Philippine team in their Long Teng Cup campaign. Rob Gier, on the other hand, has decided to be with his wife, who will soon be giving birth. The Azkals will then be headed by James and Phil Younghusband, Chieffy Caligdong, Filipino-Dutch Jason de Jong and Filipino-German Manny Ott in the Long Teng Cup crusade. Long Teng Cup is a football tournament that features a few of Asia’s toughest football teams. It is scheduled to kick off on September 28 thru October 4, 2011 in Kaohsiung, Chinese Taipei. The Filipino booters are set to face the defending champion Hong Kong, Macau and the host team Chinese Taipei on the said tournament.
