More about the Kaohsiung National Stadium:
When Kaohsiung was granted the right to host The World Games 2009 by the International World Games Association, the organizing committee immediately launched the venue renovation and construction project in order to meet International Federation standards. The most important project was undoubtedly the Main Stadium in the north of Kaohsiung City. The whole construction of the Main Stadium, with a capacity of 40,000 seats, designed by Toyo Ito, only required two years of work, and was finally tested for lighting facilities on January 15, 2009. It took over six minutes to power up the lighting in the stadium, which illuminates the track and field with 3,300 lux. Two jumbotrons screens on each side of the stadium, along with a surround sounding system, make this an international standard soccer field and facility, ensuring that it is the perfect venue for the opening and closing ceremonies, as well as the Rugby 7s and Flying Disc events. The City of Kaohsiung is particularly proud of this project. During the construction period, no site accidents occurred, while the construction crew successfully overcame the technical difficulties presented by installing spiral steel girders and 8,844 solar panels on the roof. Moreover, this stadium is notable for its eco-friendliness: the solar panels on the stadium roof generate 1.14 million kWh of electricity per year, thus reducing 660 tons of annual carbon dioxide output. In addition, all the raw materials used in the main stadium are 100% reusable and made in Taiwan. The World Games Stadium is not only a breakthrough of construction techniques, but also different from the traditionally enclosed stadiums; the open design of the stadium signifies a cordial welcome with cheerful greeting. Furthermore, the planning of the stadium is oriented at north-south direction, with a slight northwest-southeast 15-degree angle; the spiral conforms to the open "C" shape of the stadium. Such design allows the main spectator stand efficiently shelter the field from the southwestern summer wind and the northwestern winter wind. At the same time, such orientation shelters from sunlight, thus providing a more comfortable sport environment. The building occupies 19 hectares. Beside the main stadium, the surrounding public area, the planning of the aspects, ecology and sports parks, the integration of the bicycle paths, ecological pond and lush vegetation will traverse the green zone, providing visitors access to the natural environment. Not only does the solar panel system provide electricity during the games, but the surplus energy can also be sold during the non-game period. This is an unprecedented case of solar energy exploit on our island. Besides the fact, that the stadium conforms to the trend of “Energy Saving & Carbon Reduction”, it is also a new representative of sport stadiums.

Euro players Jason de Jong and Manny Ott (all U-23 players) just confirming their participation to the team for the Long Teng Cup. Other Euro players will stick to club commitments, with Gier may go on possible paternity leave. (check Physio Room: usapangfootball.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=730) De Jong can be at the attacking side on the midfield anytime. He performed quite well in Kuwait, so it will be a redeeming factor for him to come back for the tourney. Ott can assist in the defensive side, maybe in tandem with James YH. Without Gier and Jonsson, I will really suppose Jason Sabio and Nate Burkey to fill in.

Ah, I think you might have gotten it backwards. de Jong played defensive mid and Ott more attacking. But if ever these 2 guys play we cant really complain, theyve played international matches as starters already so Im ok with them in the match.
Be careful about NB, it was just the 2 of us thinking he could be a good CB, hehe. BTW, today was first Azkal practice in Alabang in the morning and Rizal in the afty. Lexton Moy is practicing/trying out with them. You never know, without the "Eurodefenders" they might try him out at outside back and Sabio at CB where he played before. Dont know the other choices except Gener, I can live with him actually, but not for the whole 90. Whatever happens though, we're gonna see what our subs are made off. The Fil-Am defenders? Go Azkals!!

With pro experience in Hong Kong, I think he can help the team with their strategies in battling the opponents in the LT Cup. Yes, he'll be good putting him with Sabio, Gener and Del Rosario at the back. We'll see then if he makes into the squad. This is really exciting!

Aly Borromeo will be always there. He's been always at the back for the team. But maybe let's look at the possibility that he would be playing in the midfield for the cup. He has played in every position during his entire career. It's crazy thinking, but we'll see then.

Yes, Borromeo actually started as GK before 2nd year high school. So he can be practically a last resort as GK-sub if no-other GK on the bench is available, according to FIFA rules.

Me and stellar were just playing around with the defensive backs as Rob and Ray aren't going to be around. Back read the posts and join in the conversation. I think stellar and I are too excited for the LT cup even while knowing its not FIFA recognized.

Hahaha I figured I missed a couple of posts after stellarboy replied to me.
Chieffy, De Jong, James, Hinrichsen?? and who else is available at the mids?
I cant wait to see the line-up for this even if its not major cup. It's interesting to see how they can improve.

I cant wait to see the line-up for this even if its not major cup. It's interesting to see how they can improve. As for the mids, I'm still very confused if Nate Burkey would either play striker or midfielder. If Weiss sprinkles U-23 players in the mids, I would take Mark Drinkuth and James Hall to play defense, and maybe Mark MacMahon as attacking MF. Don't fret my friends, once the final lineup is complete, you would thank me if I got my predictions right.

I think McMahons out of the game for now because of his other activities, correct me if Im wrong but from what I see, his modeling is what he's concentrating on? As for Drinkuth and Heinrichsen, it seems they are still in the process(as of last night anyway) of getting permission from their schools to be let off for the coming competitions.
I hope Manny and Jason can come down sooner rather than later.

Hello gents! Its ok to disagree with each other. After all its all conjecture until the real roster comes out. Having said that, Ive always felt, and as much as I love Jonsson and Rob G, eventually someones gonna have to take over. The reason I mentioned Nate B for CB is because of his huge size(at about 6'2+) and quickness and strenght(over RG). Note I didnt say he could be better than RG specially with veteran leadership and experience. If you have followed Aly B's career, you'd see that he also plays mid and have actually scored goals in UFL games. He and Anton D are great utility players capable of moving around in positions. Having said that why not try Nate at CB too? Move the smaller, yet quick Sabio at LB, since Jonsson is unavailable. Theres plenty of midfielders available for the LT cup even without the europlayers anyway. Having two large Center Backs would be a great advantage in crossings and corner kicks defensively(providing NB can play the position) Whats your take? NOTE: Unfortunately Robs Ascot U is out of the FA cup. They lost within the last 10 min of the match! The RB's and LB's need to be faster cause they usually join the attack along with their respective wings. Anton and Sabio would be perfect for that positions. Aren't DM the same as CB, they protect the mid? So why not try Burkey in the center defence (plus he is fast and tall so he can surely get the possession back)!
