Also with the return of goalkeeper Lukun Chiand a number of previous Olympic team members, the new vitality also strengthened the national team, but also added a lot of odds for the Long Teng Cup. In 2010, Taiwan held its first International Tournament (Long Teng Cup), the Chinese Taipei soccer team won ahead of Hong Kong in the first half, second half was Philippines - although won only as the first runner-up below Hong Kong. Compared to the 2009 East Asian Cup four-ball tourney, Hong Kong lost, yet has many advances. This year, 2011, the Chinese team expects to win more titles in one sweep. From reading these articles, it would seem that the Taiwanese are very very serious in their preparation for the cup as is HK. Reading the local news about the Azkals training, I have the feeling that they are just using it as a springboard/training period for the U23 team for the SEAG. I've always said and believed that we should be serious about winning the LT cup for the sake of continued support(for soccer and the Azkals) from the public. The opponents have been preparing longer than us which is another cause for concern. If next year there will be 6 teams, it'll make it way harder to win that Cup(minor as it is). I hope I'm wrong and we do well anyway...

Since Carli de Murga Olaivar is expected to fill-in for Rob Gier at RB, I predict that De Jong or Sabio would be at CB with Borromeo. Anton will stay at LB.
While we are awaiting confirmations that Ott will play for us, I demand that if Ott could not join us as attacking midfielder, replace him with Lexton Moy or Nate Burkey.

Hi stellar, no word yet on Ott if he can go or not. Unless another surprise(Carli) comes at us again. I think its del Ro, Sabio, Aly and Carli. I know PFF admins have said they want the U23 to fill in for the LT but the other 3 teams are dead serious and coming in with all guns blazing! Even HK decided to play their senior team. I sure hope we play our BEST players here.
Having said that. Here is my line up stellar, hehe:
delRo(RB) - Carli(CB) - Aly (CB) - Sabio (LB)
I didnt include de Jong because if he were around I think Weiss would play him at defmid where he played before. CB is a more important position, hence I stuck the new guy in there. But, Im also favorable with Sabio swapping with Carli. Thoughts?

De Jong, if he's available, would rather be at the def-mid. But with his age, though, he's eligible for the U-23 team. But again, let's not expect too much on his involvement just yet.

...was just browsing around and I saw that FIFA will view the LT cup as a "Friendly" because national teams are involved. Which means losing a game affects us adversely. Well, I have faith in our team and coach so I'll just go with whatever they decide on. The Azkals are deeper than ever, so I'm sure even without the euros we can field a competent team. Go Azkals/U23!!

‘Azkals’ brace for 2011 Long Teng Cup Published : Thursday, September 08, 2011 00:00 Written by : JOSEF T. RAMOS THE Azkals’ German coach Hans Michael Weiss said that the majority of his wards will see action in the 2011 Long Teng Cup slated September 30 to October 4 in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. The tilt would give the Philippines an opportunity to improve its current ranking in the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA). “Azkals are Azkals,” said Weiss, 44, who also supervises the training of the country’s Under-23 team for the 26th Southeast Asian Games on November in Indonesia. “We’re hoping to field the best team possible to improve our FIFA ranking.“ Weiss intends to bring in players Neil Etheridge, Manuel Ott, Paul Mulders, Dennis Cagara, Jerry Lucena and Stephan Schrock, to boost the Azkals’ chance of improving the Philippines’ current FIFA ranking of 162nd. The Azkals would battle the football teams of Hong Kong, Macau and host Chinese-Taipei in the Long Teng Cup. Weiss is also considering including in the Long Teng Cup contingent the 22-year old Filipino-Spanish booter Carlos Alberto Martinez De Murga Olaivar. “He has the skills but let’s see first how he will react in training. Carlos just started training three days ago but it looks very promising,” said Weiss. www.manilatimes.net/index.php/sports/6815-azkals-brace-for-2011-long-teng-cup

News about the Azkals probable player lineup for the LTC: usapangfootball.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=849&page=6It mentions Carli as replacement for Rob G at CB and Jonsson as playing in the LTC. Though not set in stone, there are a lot of intriguing personnel in this list non the less. Absent are our Belgian contingent and surprisingly, Azkal Captain Aly B. I can't help but speculate, is this our probable defence against HK?: Lexton Moy-----Carli-----JamesYh-----RayJonsson

Maybe they might send Aly B & Chieffy to lead the team for the friendlies. A U-23 player to play the skipper? Let's see then.

According to what I'm observing through their Twitter accounts, some, if not most, of the NT players under UFL clubs are training for the upcoming UFL season. Aly B and Anton del Ro are apparently concentrating for Kaya FC, and Chieffy for Air Force Rider.
So I'll not be surprised if they'll be absent in this LT cup. Let alone the U-23 players take the majority of the starting XI and let maybe either of the YH brothers take the skipper's armband. However they must be present during the friendly matches with Singapore and Nepal.
Are they really listening to our demands? This is really threatening in my opinion, 'cause it can make an insignificant change in the FIFA rankings if the U-23 players dominate the squad, if either they win or lose, unless most of them are part of the senior squad too.
