This to protest against the signing of the United States Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA).
SOPA would give both the government and major corporations the power to shut down entire websites accused of copyright infringement with neither a trial nor a traditional court hearing. The legislation is aggressively backed by Hollywood movie studios and major record labels, along with several major news providers, including Fox News and NBC-Universal, which have largely shied away from coverage of the bill.
That Bill is unconstitutional not only in the U.S. but with all the recognized constitutional laws in many countries since it seeks to deny Freedom of Expression and Bill of Rights by denying trial or hearing.
If the bill becomes law it will affect not just U.S. citizens, but people around the world who use the Internet to gather information. This will greatly destroy the free and open Internet which we here in the forum enjoy. We will have no Wikipedia, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, and all other social networks we currently enjoy. News firms will be forced to submit to the U.S. in guarding anyone who violates copyright, and we here in the forums will not be able to share the articles our major news agencies have published.
