25 December 2017 Cebu Football Welcomes Global Cebu FC New Owner CFA. The new Global Cebu FC owner Alvin Carranza will need the support of the Cebu Football Association (CFA) which will be known as Central Visayas Regional Football Association (CVRFA) to be successful in the Philippine Football League. (Contributed photo) GLOBAL Cebu FC has a new owner Alvin Carranza, the founder and owner of MacGraphics Carranz International Corp. He has been a long time supporter of grassroots football being the Managing Director of the Teen Azkals Foundation Inc. This time, Carranza is bringing his love for the beautiful game to a higher level which is professional football. He said that they are still in the process of revamping the club and they will start brain storming after Christmas. He has tasked former Davao Aguilas manager Chito Manuel to organize the club. Manuel was also tasked by Davao Aguilas owner Jeff Cheng to organize the club when they started early this year. Carranza is also looking for a foreign coach and wants a European coach to lead the club to a better finish next season. Global-Cebu FC finished runner-up to Ceres Negros in the recently concluded Philippine Football League (PFL). The Cebu football community is welcoming the new owner of the Global FC Cebu but according to long time Cebu Football Association (CFA) long time board member Nimrod Quiñones, the new owner should sit down and talk with the CFA so that they could work together in making the Cebu team successful. Dan Palami, the former Global Cebu team owner was very close to the CFA officials particularly with president Ricky Dakay of the Dakay Construction, one of the biggest construction firm in the Visayas. “We are not part of Global FC but we gave them all out support in the ways we could for the love of the game and for Cebu,’’ Quiñones said. Quiñones served as security officer in every matches that Global Cebu FC hosted at the Cebu City Sports Center. Sun*Star Cebu sports editor Mike Limoag, an avid football writer and supporter, has also welcomed the change of management. However, he said that it has unnerved some fans because of lack of updates. He is also hoping that the new management will be aggressive in getting new homegrown talent to play for the first team. Global Cebu had one homegrown player in its line-up, former University of San Carlos striker John Roy Melgo, son of Borbon town vice mayor Roy Melgo. Carranza’s taking over of the Global Cebu FC is a wise decision for him as the club has also strong community based supporters. I have talked with him many times before and he told me that we was planning to set up a club to play for PFL. Buying Global is much cheaper than setting up a club and starting from scratch. Global-Cebu FC attracted more than 5,000 paying fans every home matches last season. That is a lot compared to most clubs who are struggling to attract paying fans to their matches. He is also also hoping to get Cebu based companies to sponsor the club so that he could get good players and stay competitive for the next season. The next thing that Carranza should do is hire a well known coach from Cebu to help his European head coach. A local coach who has a wide network and an excellent record. Cebu football is very lucky to have Carranza. When will Cagayan de Oro have its own PFL team? (l.biantan@gmail.com) pinoyfootball.com/2017/12/25/cebu-football-welcomes-global-cebu-fc-new-owner/

21 January 2018 Global Cebu beefs up lineup with two new fierce attackers By: Ray Charlie Diaz Global Cebu FC has signed up nifty attackers Curt Jordan Dizon and Daniel Gadia to beef up its lineup for the upcoming Philippines Football League (PFL) wars. Gadia is the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 78 Most Valuable Player in the men’s football tournament. He signed the contract with Global Cebu FC last Tuesday. The 22-year old midfielder played for the University of the Philippines (UP) Fighting Maroons during his collegiate years. In early 2013, he got drafted for the national team to play in the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) Under-19 Youth Championship and proceeded for the 2014 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Cup Under-19 Championship qualifiers. In 2014, Gadia played in the United Football League (UFL) where he saw action with Pachanga Diliman Football Club before transferring in 2016 to the defunct FC Meralco Manila which was then known as Loyola Sparks. Meanwhile, the 23-year old Dizon confirmed his transfer to Global Cebu last Wednesday. Dizon molded his football talent at the Crystal Palace youth academy and by playing with Gimnastica Segoviana CF in Spain during the early part of his football career. In 2014, he got the call of duty from the national team and decided to side with Global at the same time. In 2015, he joined the national team’s under-23 squad in their campaign for the 2016 AFC U-23 Championship qualifiers. He also transferred to the Loyola Sparks this year. “I can’t wait to get out there,” Dizon shared on Global Cebu FC’s official facebook page. “I want to thank Global for giving me this opportunity and hopefully we can continue to make history,” he added. Global FC is in trouble www.panaynews.net/another-global-cebu-pfl-match-cancelled/It appears that Global Cebu is still far from resolving its financial woes. Another Philippines Football League match of the club had been cancelled, this time against Stallion Laguna slated Saturday night. The PFL informed them on Friday that it has granted Global’s request to reschedule the match, which should be held in Laguna, Stallion head coach Ernest Nierras told Panay News. “It was unfortunate but we have to support each other through these hard times,” Nierras said. “We look forward to the PFL rescheduling the match. Now we have to focus on our next match.” This is the second straight time Global requested for the postponement of an away match after admitting that it is not getting financial support from its new owner, Alvin Carranza. Global “had to rely on the personal sacrifices of the players and the staff to survive,” the team said in a statement relative to the latest cancellation. “We personally solicited financial help and sponsorships from friends and longtime supporters of the club. “We were not supposed to participate this season but we cannot afford the Philippines to lose a spot in the prestigious club tournament in the continent as well as jeopardize the young PFL league that had just been set up. “Also, we were aware of sanctions that may be imposed on the club for withdrawal in the AFC Cup. Our conscience would not allow this fate to befall on Philippine football, especially after all that we had accomplished in the past eight years.” Global failed to attend its scheduled PFL match against Kaya Iloilo on May 2 at the Iloilo Sports Complex, citing financial woes. Global Cebu FC is currently on last place in the standings with 1 point on one draw and five losses.

Global's financial troubles are now affecting their roster. Rufo Sanchez has now left the club. 19 May 2018 Striker Rufo Sanchez leaves Global Cebu Spanish forward Rufino “Rufo” Sanchez bids farewell to embattled club Global Cebu FC as he goes back to Spain. In a post via his personal Facebook account, Rufo gave thanks to the club for the opportunity particularly in the AFC Cup where the striker had been most effective in this season’s campaign. Being one of the brightest spots for Global in the in the regional front, Rufo was able to rack up a total of four goals during the Group stage of the regional tournament. The first was his late game heroics against Yangon United when he was able to draw a foul and bury the ensuing penalty at the death to give his team hope in the campaign. www.foxsports.ph/football/asian-football/philippine-football/pfl/857895/striker-rufo-sanchez-leaves-global/

15 July 2018 Barbaso leaves Global Global Cebu is set to lose another key player as veteran defender Jerry Barbaso announced his departure from the club. "I am sad to leave you all," Barbaso said on Facebook last night. He did not detail his departure from Global Cebu. Barbaso has been with Cebu since he began his pro career in 2009 and has never transferred to another club. "The time that I have spent with you guys is one of the best time of my life which I am sure i will cherish throughout my life," he continued as he thanked the club. Cebu is still reeling from the loss of Wesley Dos Santos and Patrick Deyto, who are set to formally join Davao when the transfer window officially opens on Monday. Three days ago, JPV Marikina FC missed out on playing at its homecourt at the Marikina Sports Complex after Global begged off from playing the scheduled match. A statement made by the league early this week said Global Cebu FC has notified Liga Futbol Inc (LFI) that they would not be able to play their scheduled match against JPV Marikina due to "circumstantial reasons that the club has provided the LFI".*PNA www.visayandailystar.com/2018/July/14/sportnews3.htm
