Here's a juicy rumor "someone" told me, remember not "official" but it seems Demit Omphroy and Matthew Uy have been signed by Global FC. The person told me that the names "might" have been submitted to the UFL before the close of the transfer period. This is a similar circumstance as the Juani & Rob G "signing" last season.
The reason is supposedly less to do with Global itself but rather for Dan to have the guys close by for the Azkal campaign that are coming up.
Rumor confirmed! RETAINED FROM LAST SEASON: ANGELES, Marvin Janner ANGELES, Marwin Janver BAHADORAN, Misagh BARBASO, Jerry BASA, David Mark CHRISTIAENS, Jeffrey DE MURGA, Carlos EL HABIB, Izzeldin GUIRADO, Juan Luis GUISSO, Ange Marius Tressor HOSHIDE, Yu KAMA, Valentine MARAVILLA, Lexter OBIANG, Alex PASCUAL, Jose Paolo REICHELT, Patrick
About time. The more international competition our clubs compete in, the better they will be. More chances for glory for our clubs, more exposure to international competition for our players and another competition for our fans to follow throughout the year.
Here is the official correspondence by the AFC on Dan Palami's twitter:
Looking forward to Global FC's participation in the AFC President's Cup 2013... pic.twitter.com/6q5YcmqN
I have been calling for the UFC to participate in this event for some time now and I am glad they have finally done so.
As part of its buildup, Global has tapped Scottish manager Brian Reid to handle the team starting this month. The 42-year-old Reid is an experienced player with stints in the Scottish Premier League with Rangers, before managing Ayr United, which he helped secure to promotion to the first division during a five-year spell until last year.
I remember Brian Reid as the Ayr manager who scouted now-Stallions player Jason de Jong last year and asked him to try out at the club before joining the national team for the AFC Challenge Cup. And Reid did told that due to financial reasons the club couldn't acquire De Jong as he was with Dordrecht then.
It's quite sad that Ayr United had to let go of Reid after it got relegated a season after they got promoted last year. I do hope now that with his stint with Global things will get better.
Now that Global participates in the AFC President's Cup, they have to abide with a few rules, including the limit on foreign players (those who don't possess a Philippine passport). Last year the AFC only allowed two foreign players in the tourney. If this rule applies for the 2013 edition, how would Dan Palami change the squad?
I would have to assume that during the mid-season transfer window (around late March/early April), he will have to release or loan out a number of foreign players in the current squad. If they're still around, I will retain Yu Hoshide and Izzo El-habbib for the President's Cup.
For the Filipino players who will have to fill in the vacated spots, I think Palami will have to pick a few reserve players from the Laos FC team and will also have to acquire players from other clubs on loan. They're pretty handicapped on centreback, attacking midfield, forward and goalkeeper without the prominent foreign players in their squad. What do you think Global should loan in?

BoyBacolod: If some UAAP or NCAA schools will join the new league in one form or another, it may remove the gap between U22s and seniors. The schools can devise a system akin to sports academies, education is important after all.

BoyBacolod: Will the PFL be like the San Marino league system, where there are no so-called "home" stadiums.

leoisiah: Gibraltar also has a single stadium for their league.

BoyBacolod: Rules are rules are rules. The two clubs should have known better. They are given loads of time to act on it. And to those who say PFF sucks, sometimes they do but one thing they are consistent is sticking to the rules.

BoyBacolod: Why I like UAAP football, no more extra games for seeding.Makes me think about European efficiency. Wish gayahin din sa basketball (very sketchy tiebreakers), like Euroleague.

BoyBacolod: As long as Ricky Yanson is professional to Ceres FC and extends support to the Azkals in general (Ceres Azkals in particular) during home games, he can be PFF president in my book. Much better will be reconciling with Leo, though that idea is Farfetch'd.

BoyBacolod: Kaya fans wishing that Ricky Yanson wins the PFF presidency is akin to GMA fans wishing that Congress and President Duterte will not renew ABS-CBN's franchise.

BoyBacolod: DDS trolls underestimated the SEA football community. Having no prior exposure to football culture, they dismiss any and all so-called sabotages as destabilization plots, to the point that they do not support the teams, especially the women.
