Gino Pavone: The Filipino-Italian-American AzkalBy LOUIE ENCABO You wouldn’t be able to tell that Gino Pavone is Filipino unless you know who he is. Even Anton del Rosario, full-back for the Azkals, didn’t think that Gino had Filipino blood in him, despite the fact that they had played and met several times in the U.S. college league. “He didn't believe me, he thought I was Latin!†Gino tells us. Although he does not resemble your everyday Filipino, Gino had no second thoughts about joining the Philippine national football team when he was invited to try out by Anton. “Playing with the (Philippine) national team is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Rarely anybody gets (the) opportunity to represent a national team in any sport,†he explains. “I felt blessed.†Putting his Italian-American appearance aside, how Filipino is Gino Pavone? Gino was born in San Francisco, California. Gino’s mom finished her studies at the University of Santo Thomas before migrating to the United States, where she met Gino’s Italian father. Despite growing up in a foreign environment, Gino asserts that it was not hard upholding his Filipino roots. “I grew up in a place called Daly City, where a lot of Filipinos live. Growing up, my mom usually told me stories of the Philippines, and the Pinoys around me helped me understand the culture. “I have also been to the Philippines several times, particularly in Marikina where my mom grew up, and where several uncles and aunties of mine still live today.†Gino adds. Among all the tourist spots he has been to in his mother’s homeland, which place is his favorite? “It has to be Boracay.†Gino tells us with a smile. Continue reading on PinoyFootball.

Hello everyone, i am from the united states of america a official fifa scout located in california if you guys would like to know the truth about Gino Pavone here it is: Pavone a stellar San Francisco High School Athlete, one of a kind player who can strike the ball well with his dominant left foot & right 45 yards or longer no questions asked. I have seen him strike the ball with the San Jose Earthquakes scoring goals against Chivas USA reserves he is really a gem that is all i can say with his athletics ability of position playing left wing back, left midfield, & right midfield, he is smooth with the ball and can dominate whenever he is on the field i seen him contend with USA National Team Players. I spoke to him on Skype He isn't Happy On being In The Philippines he is leaving soon. As of yesterday he notified me via skype that the USA Soccer Federation wants to protest the friendly games he played in a fifa event last year and bring him to the USA National Team. If you get notified and are of that caliber you do not need to comment on anything else. I met Gino Pavone the young gifted player 3 months ago at the san jose earthquakes MLS training. I really got to know him on & off the field i sat with him for lunch and asked him why aren't you a signed professional futbol player at 22 yrs old? i remember him telling me growing up as a child in San Francisco He played Flag football,Basketball, Baseball , & Soccer once he got to high school at 13 years of age that is when he exploded and took off in peaking with his soccer ability. He told me that is when he officially played club futbol. From what i remember, he mentioned always playing futbol with his really good friends which where most of hispanic decent & few Brazilian so he had to pick up on spanish language and portugese. At first, he felt embarrassed players would speak and he would not pick up on it when i spoke to him he told me he knew a lot of spanish, little bits of portugese, italian, arabic, dutch and so forth.. This player Gino Pavone will be better than Landon Donovan of The USA i know he has his priorties straight thanks to his real supportive parents who been with him through his ups & downs all i got to say is watch out for this young man "Gino Pavone" he is going to hit the spotlight who knows maybe champions league. As of now i know he is working with 5 agents on seeing whats best for him.
#1 Italy Serie B Bari are interested in Pavone They want to sign him for 3years and told him to "drop his filipino passport & get a Italian passport" my opinion that is a real big decision if he does not drop it he can be signed for 1yr contract. my opinion i would drop it no quesitons asked but he has a chance to represent the national team.
#2 Teams in vietnam are interested
#3 Teams in USA are interested
#4 Teams in Mexico are interested
#5 Teams in England are interested
yesterday i spoke to Pavone he told me he is going through some real unprofessional issues with certain people here in the philippines he is a strong man nothing can knock him down i know he has been through hell and back in his best if you know him you know how humble this young man is, how strong he is, how great of a player is , & number 1 thing how he presents himself with Respect as a man.
This is all i have to say for now hope to hear some feedback thank you guys bye now GO PHILIPPINES & USA

It is very unfortunate that he was not included in the U23 roster as he has been with the seniors in the past. I hope whatever the issues are, that it gets sorted out soon. Please do keep us updated on his contract status as I am very interested in what he does next. I hope, at the very least he catches on with the senior NT in the AFC Challenge Cup if he is deserving. Thanks for the update.

its kinda sad to hear that the US national team is now trying to get him and the Italian team is telling him to drop his Philippine passport for a 3yr contract. i guess hes got that much potential. but i think he should choose whatever he thinks is the best path for him. its understandable if he leaves the Azkals for the US national team or possibly the Italian national Team if hes got the chance to represent them.

I guess Gino Pavone is a victim of politics. His talents are not being put into good use. He is left-foot dominant and he is much better than Chieffy Caligdong

...he is much better than Chieffy Caligdong I would like to know what led you to say this statement? I'm sure we can pull up the amount of caps, goals, assist, career achievements both players have in International games and I'm quite sure one is waaaaaaaaaaaay better than the other. I've seen many post that I do not agree with in this site(and everyone is entitled to their opinion), but this has got to be the top in my book. I'm befuddled This is the perfect WTF are you smoking moment...

I agree with stellarboy. You don't have to smoke just to know that Gino Pavone is better than Caligdong. This is my assessment and my peers as well. Caligdong maybe be senior and has scored more goals internationally but Pavone is the better passer, defender, dribbler, and team player. Caligdong can't play defense. I don't mind getting much criticism from the supporters of the "pure breed filipinos"

I don't mind getting much criticism from the supporters of the "pure breed filipinos" I for one am not using the "pure breed" argument. But what you are talking about here is POTENTIAL vs achievement. By this argument, I can say Kevin Ingreso is better than Messi, it wont fly in the FACTUAL world. As for Chieffy's defense, I don't think you've watched the LTC 2011 and past friendlies. That I'm sure is a FACT. This is the last I'll respond here, its your first post and it makes me think this is your 2nd identity in this site. Either way, factual data > potential, its an argument that can go on and on and on. I still want to know what he's smokin', it sounds like it's good stuff...

Chieffy's defense still sucks... His defense in the LTC and past friendlies is nonexistent. One of Kuwait's goal in Kuwait was a result of his foolish decision to double team the Kuwaiti striker on the right flank. stellarboy, 2nd identity mo daw ako??? I guess that is what I get for supporting you nyahaha!
