I Am Graduating!
If you haven't known of it, let me tell you that I am graduating with a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science at the University of the Philippines. Here in UP, most of its campuses use a unique academic regallia during commencement exercises, and part of it is what is called the "Sablay", a sash worn above a white or beige barong Tagalog for males or a white or cream dress in females. The sash is patterned in maroon and green (the school colors) with yellow accents. The Sablay contains the alibata characters for "U P", signifying the rich heritage of Filipinos.
Before the candidate student is declared a graduate, the sablay is worn atop of the right shoulder. When the UP President, or its representative, gives the declaration, they transfer the sablay to the left shoulder, much more like transferring the tassel of the mortarboard (the graduation hat) from right to left when the academic gown is a toga-and-mortarboard.
So, I am proud to say that I have made it, but as you may have known since a few weeks ago, my presence will somewhat not be felt in the next few weeks or so as I am to search for work.
Mabuhay!
