Ceres-La Salle Crowned Football Alliance League Cup Champions, Shakes Up UFL Hierarchy Nov 6 Results: Ceres-La Salle 2-1 Global Loyola Meralco Sparks 3-2 Pachanga Diliman “I think we can call us the best team in the Philippines.” These were words spoken by Patrick Reichelt after Ceres-La Salle successfully overcame his former club, Global, in the exhilirating Football Alliance League Cup final at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium. The victory halted the United Football League powerhouse’s run of back-to-back trophies in the UFL, while effectively throwing into disarray the hierarchy of clubs in the Philippines’ elite domestic competition. Reichelt points to his club’s run of nine straight wins en route to capturing the FA League Cup title as proof that Ceres-La Salle are ready to go from winning the 2nd Division, straight to reigning supreme in the 1st. While many will wait for the UFL’s upcoming two tournaments to submit judgment on whether such a jump is possible, Ceres’ triumph showed there is a new legitimate heavyweight to be reckoned with – a prospect Global head coach Leigh Manson is relishing. Despite losing the contest to Jin Ho Kim’s first minute strike, and Adrian Gallardo Valdes’ short stab early in the first half, the Scot was pleased at the interest generated by the spectacular affair. “Tonight’s game, with the amount of fans – the passion, the drama, the excitement, that’s got to be great for the League, for Filipino football,” he said. Mark Hartmann netted a fantastic rocket from way outside the box to cut the deficit against 10-man Ceres, who had skipper Juani Guirado sent for his involvement in a fracas that erupted after Patrick Deyto and Sang Min Kim collided. But Ceres managed to hold on, with Louie Casas proving strong, especially when Edgar Briones smashed a powerful attempt at goal late into injury time. The result ensured the Bacolod side’s first major trophy in the UFL, an accomplishment team manager Ali Go felt his team rightly deserved. “It’s all hard work, [And] patience from the team, and patience from the players. I think the boys really deserved the win. We’re all very happy.” Earlier in the evening, Loyola Meralco Sparks won a thriller against Pachanga Diliman to win third place in the FA League Cup. In the awarding ceremony after the final, Ceres’ Jin Ho Kim was awarded the competition’s Most Valuable Player. Global’s Deyto walked away with the Best Goalkeeper award, while Kaya’s Louis Clark was crowned Top Scorer. Individual Awards: Most Valuable Player: Jin Ho Kim (Ceres-La Salle) Best Goalkeeper: Patrick Deyto (Global) Top Scorer: Louis Clark (Kaya) ufl.ph/ceres-la-salle-crowned-football-alliance-league-cup-champions-shakes-up-ufl-heirarchy/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=ceres-la-salle-crowned-football-alliance-league-cup-champions-shakes-up-ufl-heirarchy

Ceres-La Salle turns sights on UFL, AFC Cup DESPITE unable to defend its national club championship title, Ceres-La Salle Football Club remains bullish and now prepping up for future tournaments wherein it hopes to perform better. Settling for third place in the recently concluded Philippine Football Federation-Smart National Club Championship, behind champion Loyola Meralco Sparks FC and Global FC, Ceres, who won the title in the two previous stagings of the club competition, believes its campaign did not go for naught as it was able to achieve the goals it has set for it in the tournament. “[The tournament] was a tune-up for us. We were able to see some of our mistakes. And this tournament is fruitful for us in that respect as we get to correct them and improve on them which should help us in the coming tournaments like the United Football League (UFL) and Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Cup,” Ali Bernard Go, Ceres-La Salle Club director, told BusinessWorld in an interview after their third place-winning game against Stallion FC. “The boys gave 100% effort but they knew it was a tune-up and mindful not to get injured. I’m proud with the way they performed and made the most out of it. We have some injuries but they are not really serious,” he added. Mr. Go also said finishing third hardly changes their standing as one of the top football clubs in the country. “I think our team is still up there. If not more, the same. The Global management knows that and the Meralco management knows that. We are happy of what we have achieved and the guys are very positive about that,” he said. Ceres-La Salle is now gearing up for action in the UFL and AFC Cup set for later this month. The team, Mr. Go said, is very excited to being able to qualify for a playoff for a spot in the AFC Cup, Asia’s second-level tournament for domestic clubs. Ceres is to face Maldivian side Maziya Sports and Recreation Club in the playoff set for Feb. 17 in the Maldives. In the event of a victory against Maziya, the Negros Occidental-based club earns a place in Group E of the AFC Cup. Global, the UFL Cup champion, is already through in the Cup and is bracketed in Group G. “We are pumped up for the Cup game. I think it’s good for the country. If we do good there, along with Global, it will boost up other clubs here in the Philippines. This is a stepping stone. Now we are in an AFC tournament...,” Mr. Go said. www.bworldonline.com/content.php?section=Sports&title=ceres-la-salle-turns-sights-on-ufl-afc-cup&id=101971

If I were the coach at Ceres FC, I would talk to Loyola Coach McMenemy to find out about my Maldivian opponent at the AFC Cup. He was a coach at Maldivian club New Radiant, before taking on Loyola and would be familiar with the playing style of other Maldivian clubs.

CERES-LA Salle is setting its sight on a bigger tournament in the international scene after ruling the United Football League (UFL) in dominant fashion over the weekend. After clinching the Division 1 title with still two matches to spare following a 6-0 shutout of Socceroo last Saturday, the Bacolod-based squad gained an outright berth to the Asian Football Confederation Cup group stage next February. Ceres had a chance to qualify for the AFC Cup main phase this year, but fell short following a 1-0 loss to Maldivian side Maziya in their playoff in the opponent’s turf in Male last February. Now, the Busmen have already surpassed the feat as they automatically earned a slot in the meet, but that hardly satisfies them. “This (UFL title) is a ticket for the next tournament, which is where we really want to perform well,” Ceres coach Ali Go said of the second-tier club competition in the continent. “To get past the group stage, I think that’s going to be our target.” Go has all the reason to be optimistic, having a star-studded squad led by Spanish sensations Adrian Gallardo and Bienvenido Marañon as well as Azkals Manny Ott, Patrick Reichelt, Martin Steuble, and skipper Juani Guirado. “I don’t believe that we can’t do it,” the Ceres coach said. “With this squad, with a few more bits and pieces and with the right mindset, I think we’ll do well in the AFC.” Another UFL club will have a chance to join Ceres in the group stage next year, but will first have to go through a playoff. Global FC represented the country earlier this year. But first, Ceres still has to finish its league campaign with two no-bearing meetings against Manila Jeepney and Stallion FC. “We’ll still play,” said Go, whose squad has an insurmountable 12-point lead after jacking up its tally to 40. “We want to win all the games.” Read more at www.spin.ph/football/ufl/news/ceres-la-salle-afc-cup-group-stage-ali-go-division-1-champion#5kZuZXzhhVvstt2V.99

Ceres FC off to Singapore tune-ups
CERES-La Salle FC is set to fly to Singapore Saturday for a pair of tune-up matches ahead of the 2016 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Cup Group E Qualifiers.
The games will be staged at Panaad Park and Stadium in Bacolod City on February 23 and May 10, and on April 12, at Rizal Memorial Stadium in Manila.
Coach Ali Go and the Bacolod-based booters will face Balestier Khalsa FC on February 1 followed by Albirex Niigata Singapore FC on February 3. The team is set to return home the next day.
Both Balestier Khalsa Football Club and Albirex Niigata FC, a satellite team of Albirex Niigata of Japan, are professional ball clubs playing in Singapore’s S. League.
On Thursday night, the Bacolod side dominated the Stallion FC, 6-1. Fil-German forward Patrick Reichelt opened Ceres’ scoring in the fifth minute before Stallion’s Ruben Doctora equalized in the 28th minute.
Spanish striker Bienvinido Marañon fired another one in the 41st minute to register a 2-1 lead at half.
Ceres FC made some adjustments as Fil-German attacking midfielder Stephan Shrock nailed his team’s third goal in the 56th and Fil-Spanish defender Carli de Murga added in the 60th minute on a penalty.
Despite the huge lead, Ceres FC were not done yet as Korean Lee Ji-Wong and Fil-Italian Maru Angeles contributed two more goals in the 72nd and 82nd minutes to seal the win.
Ceres FC also blanked JP Voltes FC, 2-nil during their previous tune-up match at the Rizal Memorial field.
Ceres FC will face Selangor FC (Malaysia) and Lt. Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Ltd. (Bangladesh) on February 23 and May 10, respectively at Panaad while Tampines Rovers FC (Singapore) is scheduled on April 12 at the Rizal turf. (HGD)
