Dooley, the German-American who accepted his first post as an international coach in February, has made a point of pushing the Philippines players to keep the ball on the ground and maintain possession, an approach appreciated by captain Rob Gier. “Dooley really emphasises us playing out of the back, which is great. Possession of the football in today’s modern game is key,” he said. “His attention to detail is also something that has really stood out. Lots of presentations, videos and analysis of opponents, all those little extra things that can help you along the way. I like to think we’re better-prepared than we have been in the past.” Read more: www.thenational.ae/sport/azkals-aim-for-victory-in-afc-challenge-cup-group-stage-final#ixzz32ecjAchAFollow us: @thenationaluae on Twitter | thenational.ae on Facebook

Tom Dooley's contract with the PFF is only good for a year.
With the way he handles the team, as of this writing: 4 wins, 3 draws, 1 loss...I say to PFF - give him a new sheet to sign until the 2016 Suzuki Cup.
The German-American has gotten the job done despite numerous obstacles in his way. The Azkals is playing exciting football these days, so he deserves an extension.

Someone please give this man an extension. We're playing to a level to match other teams, and to me it gives me goosebumps. The transformation of this team's play is phenomenal... much higher than Weiss's. The US went over a similar transformation, but I feel that the difference in level between their respective managers is much greater with the Philippines. Weiss was obviously a dud. We may not be totally dominating games, but to me, it gives me goosebumps that we can string more than 10 passes starting from the back with a purpose towards goal, and the players are playing obviously defined roles (even with the homegrown players - we're just not placing them on the field at x position) As a result, we're now playing as a true football team. Not the headless chicken tactics we saw with Weiss and previous managers (sorry McMenemy...). Dooley is the right man to give the country a football identity. We have fans traveling to games and getting the reward of the team winning away..... so good......
We may not always get the results we want, but to me it's the footballing identity that will eventually win us games. This is always the most important. There's an obvious direction with Dooley, and it's only upward. And remember, identity comes from the culture of the entire country, not results of the game. As long as Dooley gives people hope and direction. Also, we should always remember that we were always the missing country that will help SEA football compete with the other AFC big guns.

In a couple games we're playing much better than we always have. We play from the back, don't bypass the midfield, more meaningful passes -- long and short... --, and the biggest... there's no obvious gaps between our layers (defense-midfield-striker) that we had under Weiss. Dooley's by far the best manager in Southeast Asia ATM.

We may have lost but I'm completely impressed at the system Dooley is running the team. Reichelt is very smart in the hole and the fullbacks are playing modern football. He is a true #10 that will help us win games in the future. I'm most impressed at Sato as he is composed and fully understands both parts of the fullback game. Rota is raw but he's obviously very good too. Weiss was missing big time in these two roles especially since the gaps between layers were really big with him. IMO the system is spot on despite some lack of the ball and the rest is just football culture building which will bring us game composure.

Coach TD played his strongest line-up but I think it was the scouted line-up.
We can't pressed as much as the most players were gassed out last time.
As expected, the ace on his sleeves were (Porteria and Daniels).
I think he should have use James on the right kept Reichelt in the bench as he was heavily marked.

Dunno I disagree about the Reichelt comment. He probably has a better pure footballing brain than the rest of the team minus Lucena and Schrock. I was too impressed at how he carried out his role hehe...

Tactically could have use some fresh legs in the first half i.e James Younghusband (as people have said the quality doesn't dropped as much with the depth) and could have an added a different dimension to what will Palestine will prepare. So Reichelt could have been introduced in the 2nd half.

In a recent football talk show a few days ago, Dooley mentions the plans of the Azkals to go on a North American tour tentatively sometime in October with possible friendlies against Canada men's team (which apparently invited them already to play in Canada), and the men's or the U-23 teams of the US and Mexico, Panama or Honduras. It is one of the benefits of having as coach a former US national team player and assistant coach as his connections are already opening doors for our team in the CONCACAF.

Dooley's statement to the fans on his facebook page:
"Part of the game of football is dealing with the pain of losing. It is heart breaking and hard to get over but what is more important is to focus on what we have gained from it.
Our goal was to use the Challenge cup to bring us forward in the development of football in the Philippines. The team has achieved that. We can be happy and we are proud but we should never be satisfied with being second best.
I have been in this business/ profession for over 30 years, and I have never experienced the kind of warmth and support that Filipinos have for their countrymen.
In Maldives, through all our victories and defeat, whatever problems we have encountered we could always count on Filipinos "kababayans" to be there for us. When we lost to Palestine the Filipino fans started singing "I want it that way" to cheer us up. This is something special and I feel very fortunate to have experienced it. We will continue to work hard towards the progress and improvement of Philippine Football.
Thank you for all your kindness. Maraming Salamat sa inyong lahat."

Im interested in them playing ANY U23 teams from North or Central America. What a treat and definitely a good learning experience for our younger players. I hope this goes through.
