let's give Aguinaldo some credits. yes, he costed us some mistakes but the kid frustrated Ashfaq till the end.
my runner up for the MOTM will be Sato. this kid took a lot of beating, literally but he held on, not blowing his steam off. shows really maturity for him.

I would like to send my congrats to the Pinoy fans who cheered our team. They were loud enough to make themselves heard over the more numerous Maldive supporters. With fans like these, the team will always feel at home everywhere.

Great match. Hard fought and well deserved victory. It's strange but somehow I felt very confident that Muller was going to save that penalty. Incredible mind games by Muller trying to psych out the Maldives penalty taker. Going up to him, moving the ball after it was placed...Fantastic stuff. It has to be kept in mind that Aguinaldo is still a kid. Definitely a huge gamble by Coach Dooley, but that's what he is paid to do. It is risky and it could cost us the tournament but it appears Dooley has an eye on the future by throwing Aguinaldo in the deep end. After this tournament there's Suzuki Cup and if the team wins this tournament, the Asia Cup in Australia early next year. Our center backs are aging and slowing down, there is no better opportunity to test Aguinaldo's mettle and let him gain valuable experience than right now. That being said, if Coach Dooley insists on starting Aguinaldo in the final he should at least have Jerry Lucena at defensive mid. In my opinion, Aguinaldo's wobbles started coming out a lot more in the second half when Lucena was no longer running things in midfield and doing good job shielding the back four. Christaens and Carli are going to have a hell of a time fighting to win back their places on the flanks. It is good to know that the fullback positions are well covered. The other impressive player for me throughout the group stage and the semis is Patrick Reichelt. Consistently good, energetic and a menace to the opposing defense. He seems to play a similar role that Di Maria does for Real Madrid. He got banged up quite a bit the past four games and I hope he's in good condition for the final along with Schrock.

I watched most of the game... well, tried to >_> it was really sloppy and a bit unwatchable, but congrats. This is not Mexico vs the USA. Baby steps for us still. Besides we have been decimated with injuries(5 at last count including Cagara leaving for Denmark) to our starters. I am sure they would have played better if we had our full lineup.

Well, I didn't expect something like a Mexico match, but even to Ascenso MX (I expected it to be around this level) standards it was poor, there even was some comical defending by Maldives. Also I guess the pitch didn't help.

I thought that the Maldives must have taken note of Muller's frequent forays off the line in previous games and decided to try a few lob shots over the goalkeeper, one of which went in. Palestine might try the same thing next time as well.
BTW, this exciting game was good advert for the sport of football in the Philippines. I hope they gained a few more fans along the way back home.

How about the 2 possessions that maldives don't want to fairplay. So desperate.

Also I guess the pitch didn't help. Well the Azkals actually dominated UEFA side Azerbaijan in the 2nd half in a recent friendly(even though they lost 0-1 to a header in the first half). The US thinks highly enough of Azerbaijan to have a friendly with them tonight before they head to the World Cup.
