I have no intention being pessimistic but I would have to terriblerefereeing. Philippine Football has a long way to go..On its current setup we would have to rely on Fil-Foreigners to be competitive internationally..
What's good right now is that Football is very much live. It is very visible to the public right now. I how PFF should take this opportunity while "the metal is still hot" for we don't know if this would hold its ground long enough because most of the fans are just bandwagon fans. They are not really football fans. Hopefully, uphill football craze continues and football will be at par with basketball.
If another catalyst can take place, maybe from (gov't and private co's); example: creation of football leagues, creation of staduim meeting atleast international standards, sucessful scouting thru the grassroots programs proposed..etc..maybe FIFA 2014 or 2018 is doable..but first things first..let us retool our rooster, improve our skills and dominate in our region..then dominate in asia and from there World Cup..
Not because you propped up what I said, but as you've said, let's be realistic here. I just hope people will still continue supporting the sport.
One step at a time...let us see how the team performs inthe upcoming tournament...from there on we can relly tell how far this team can go....2014 qualifier is still 2 years from now so there is still a lot of improvements for the team
AFC have announced the dates and format of 2014 World Cup and 2012 Olympic Games qualifiers for Asia on August 13th in Kuala Lumpur.

Round 6 Match Day 1: October 15, 2013 Match Day 2: November 19, 2013
the top 5 ranked team gets a byes. the rest will be divided into 2 groups from the the highest to the lowest ranked. yes, i think it will be drawn pairing the countries from group A [the stronger ones] against group B [the weaker ones in ranking]. it will be a home and away thing. the lowest 8 winners move to round 2 the rest to group 3
i think its quite important for us to get the highest ranking we can so we can be group in group A. if our current ranking stays i believe we will be seeded from high 20's to low 30's which would land us in group B. but even then i think its important to join the qualifiers whatever the outcome is. the challenge cup will be very important.

Don't expect Philippines to qualify for World cup for the next 8-12 years. We've yet to see our own professional national league. We've yet to see more football pitches nationwide. The solid grassroots is still not there. Millions of our kababayan don't even know what football/soccer is and how it is played. Asian football superpowers like Japan and South Korea all had the abovementioned pre-requisites for decades. Heck, we still struggle with our SEA neighbors without our foreign-based Azkals.
Hinay-hinay lang sa pangarap. You'll might end up frustrated in your lifetime. Temper your expectations in more acheivable goals i.e. AFC Qualifier. Once we achieved that goal, we need to sustain it. Then slowly work on higher goals.
I know this is very early to ask but since we made it to the second round for 2014 doesn't that mean we don't have to go through the first round anymore for 2018?
If we stick to the old format, we would still have to go through the first round since we lost in the 2nd round, although we would be the higher seeded team. But if the planned changes in format would be implemented, then its a different story.

BoyBacolod: As long as Ricky Yanson is professional to Ceres FC and extends support to the Azkals in general (Ceres Azkals in particular) during home games, he can be PFF president in my book. Much better will be reconciling with Leo, though that idea is Farfetch'd.

BoyBacolod: Kaya fans wishing that Ricky Yanson wins the PFF presidency is akin to GMA fans wishing that Congress and President Duterte will not renew ABS-CBN's franchise.

BoyBacolod: We will wait for the basketball and volleyball ASEAN teams and then we compare their reception to that given to the football delegations, where ALL ASEAN nations participate. Now there will be foreign scrutiny in every move of PHISGOC.

BoyBacolod: DDS trolls underestimated the SEA football community. Having no prior exposure to football culture, they dismiss any and all so-called sabotages as destabilization plots, to the point that they do not support the teams, especially the women.
