There seems to be a whole lot of confusion regarding the issue of the new German head coach. Most Azkaleros feel furious that McMenemy was dropped in a sudden and unexpected manner...well truth of the matter is, he wasn't.
It was long expected that McMenemy would be replaced, the Azkals were participating in the Challenge Cup and McMenemy didn't have the proper coaching license required by the Asian Football Confederation, the football body that runs the tournament. In fact, according to the team since November (pre-Suzuki Cup days) they have already been talking about a new coach. The assistance given by the German Football Association was known then as well.
What Coach Simon is saying on his twitter account is that he feels disappointed the news reached the media (especially social networking sites) before him. The truth is, it wasn't intentional. With so many fans knowing the team and the management's personal Facebook, Twitter, etc. profiles most of them can find the news themselves first before they reach the intended persons. That is exactly what happened and Coach Simon saw the news posted on Twitter and FB fan pages before he was even told about it.
Our new head coach is German Hans Michael Weiss, a 45-year old coach and former technical director of the Rwanda Football Association. One notable achievement he had with Rwanda was that he helped steer them to the top 100 in the FIFA ranking. He also had experience with the Chinese Football Association and internships with several top leagues in the world.
I urge everyone to support our new coach and the team. Coach Simon, although disappointed, has said he still supports the team and would only want the best for them. My best bet now is that the management has talked to him and everything is fine now. Hope this clears up all confusion.
