Final Score PHI 3 - TLS 2
Good 1st half but disappointing 2nd half. In game 1, Mulders played well but in game 2, Mulders seems to be the weakest link as he gave TLS a penalty goal. Schrock seems to be reserved for THA as he was subbed early to avoid injury and avoid to acquire another yellow as he booked 1. JYH seems to have a bad performance in 2nd half.
I really hope the defense lapses will be solved before our game vs THA and IDN as Goal difference will play a big role here. hope we get at least a draw on one of this game to qualify to next round. GD hopes faded after 2 goals by TLS.
BTW, there is an incoming storm to affect Visayas and Mindanao, I hope it won't affect our preparation and especially the wed game. I they have a back-up plan for this in case the storm affects the region.

Although Timor Leste lacked the skills, their forwards were too fast for our defenders particularly Mulders and De Murga. We were just lucky they had poor finishing. Schrock was a monster at left wing and I hope he'll create problems for the Thais. Azkals were better in almost all departments (skills, height, passing, etc) but sadly we couldn't score more goals and instead gave up 2 quick ones. Growing pains as the coach said after the game. Hoping that the team jells better in these next games.
All things considered, it would be lucky if we draw against Thailand on Wednesday.

FT 1-1. Bedic pinballs the woodwork in the 81st minute for the tying goal. That point was desperately needed. Singapore throttled Timore Leste, 6-1.

Good comeback. Critical one point achieved, just when Thailand compacted the defense right after they scored. Subbing in Bedic for that infusion of energy late in the game was just what the Azkals needed. Thumbs up for Coach Sven on that move.

it was a great game..it showed though our lack of a pure striker outside of Patino..if only he was there, it would have been easily 2-1.. Alvaro was great..I hope woodland gets well in time for the Asian Cup to strengthen our defense.. Carli could be slow at times

We're lucky we came out w/ a point last night. But then again, i feel we could've scored more than a goal w/ all the chances we had in the 1st half. All in all, it was nice to see we played to the level of our talented guests. too bad there was a storm in the visayas & mindanao these past few days. if the weather was good, i reckon fan attendance would've been 10 times better.

We're lucky we came out w/ a point last night. But then again, i feel we could've scored more than a goal w/ all the chances we had in the 1st half. I suspect this summarizes the sentiments of those who watched the game. Glass half full or glass half empty. What's not in argument is that we can play just as well, if not better, than Thailand. In some respects this is the clearest evidence that we deserve the ranking we have. The game shows maturity in teamwork and cohesion that I have not seen before. Glimpses, maybe, but not consistency throughout the whole game. Yes, Thailand let us have possession and they had a compact defense especially in the second half, but the Azkals game plan remained of putting the ball in the net through passing and assists, not through lobbing the ball in the box in hopes for a lucky break. Gone are those days. Whatever crosses made it to the box were very deliberate towards a player. The defense was very good. Credit the Thais for converting that good chance they had for a counter. Can't say that was entirely a defensive breakdown, although something could've been done better there. I suspect replays of that goal buildup will be reviewed in detail by the coaches with the players. I hope they do. On to Indonesia. If the Azkals play this well in Indonesia, they're sure to go to the semifinals. Go Azkals!

Philippines and Thailand played out a hard-fought 1-1 draw at the Panaad Stadium in Bacolod City and moved to 7 points each on the Group B table. Thailand came into the match as slight favourites but the Azkals didn’t show them too much respect and it worked wonders for them. The newly-appointed high profile head coach Sven-Goran Erikkson set up his Philippines side in a 4-4-1-1 formation with Manuel Ott and Strauss sitting deep to shield the defence while the two wide players, Daisuke Sato and Stephan Shrock moving forward to provide Phil Younghusband and Patrick Reichelt much-needed support up front. Shrock, especially, wreaked havoc on the Thailand defence and tormented them with searing runs down the right flank. Most of the Azkals’ opportunities came from there as they registered as many as 18 shots in the end as compared to Thailand’s six. Thailand, on the other hand, were instructed by Milovan Rajevac to sit back and try and hit the home side on the counter. Both Adisak Kraisorn and Sanrawat Dechmitr were essential to this plan as one of the two forwards up front had to hold up the ball as the other made runs into the space left behind. The Azkals saw a host of chances go waste in the first half as the defending champions sat back and absorbed the pressure. As a result, the first half ended goal-less. The second half started in a similar fashion as Younghusband came very close to breaking the deadlock in the 51st minute. That’s when, however, the Azkals lost the plot for a bit and five minutes later, Thailand opened the scoring through Supachai Jaided. Erikkson then brought on Iain Ramsay for Sato which helped the home side gain some momentum again. Ultimately, it was through substitute Jovin Bedic, who had come on only three minutes earlier, that Philippines equalised. Bedic found some space on the edge of the box and let one fly from long distance. However, his shot took a bizarre deflection for Thailand goalkeeper Chatchai Budprom who jumped on the other side and the ball went in off the post. Both the sides made attacking substitutions in their quest of finding a late winner but none could disturb the scoreline. The match eventually ended 1-1 and both Thailand and Philippines maintained their unbeaten records. A lot should go down to Erikkson, however, as he set up the Azkals in a way that Thailand weren’t allowed to breathe and play their natural game. Tactical fouls were made everytime the defending champions tried to go on the break, evident by the fact that the Azkals committed as many as 19 fouls. www.fourfourtwo.com/sg/feat...iland-too-much-respect-and-it-worked?page=0,1 The Philippines deserved the point. They dominated most of the play, possession and shots on goal. In defence Alvaro Silva finally was given the go ahead to play in defence allowing the centerback to play his natural position rather than forcing Mulders(an attacking midfielder) to play the position. Midfielders Ott and Strauss also played a big role in defence sitting back more than usual for this game.

Silva was not able to play the 2 matches due to eligibility issues but he played a big part in solidifying the defence against Thailand. www.foxsportsasia.com/footb...-cup-2018-silva-extremely-important-eriksson/ "After the match, Eriksson heaped praise on his defender after being finally able to hand him a debut in the AFF Suzuki Cup 2018. “Alvaro Silva is a fantastic defender,” said the Azkals head coach. “I think he can play at any level. He’s clever, with a good header on him. He has pace (for a defender)… He’s very important for us.” Alvaro Silva is an experienced centre-back who started his career in Spain before moving to Asia where he had several tenures in different clubs. His eligibility to play for the Azkals came probably at the best possible time – against defending AFF Suzuki Cup champions Thailand with the top spot in the Group B at stake."

Great game for the Azkals even if Thailand fielded only their "B" team (without Chanathip, Teerasil, Kawin, Charyl, Sirok etc.). This makes our chances of winning the Suzuki Cup even greater. Maybe, just maybe, if we can win the Suzuki Cup, we can finally beat Thailand's "A" team.
The last 3 games showed we lack a ruthless finisher like Patino. We had many chances but shots inside the box were inconsistent.
Finally capped Alvaro Silva! Imagine having Amani and Alvaro as our central defenders in the future.
Schrocky will be the key in our breaking down our opponents' defenses.
Kudos to Coach Erikson who made the crucial decision to bring in Bedic.
Since Indons are already eliminated, hoping that the game on Sunday will be the Azkals breakout game by scoring more goals!
