I generally don't pay much attention to the FIFA rankings. It's an okay guide, there are flaws, and you have to take it with a grain of salt. For the Azkals, however, it's important because of the coming World Cup qualifying draws. If we get to around 140 or better by the middle of the year before the draws, then we go into group A which means the chance of being paired in the first round with a really low team increases. Think Guam or Macau. If, however, our ranking is still about 150, then there's a chance of getting paired with the strong teams. Think China or UAE.
So it's really important that in the coming AFC Challenge Cup we do well and win a few games. For me the Challenge Cup is okay, but the prize at this stage is to do well in the World Cup qualifiers and make it to the third round.

A few friendlies would help too. FIFA rankings may not speak accurately of the quality of a team but they do matter when it comes to seedings and draws for tournaments, as xyz1000 pointed out.
