It's so disappointing that we can't win against Yemen. Six or seven years ago the team looked so promising with the upward trajectory. Now, can't score against Yemen in an important game.

I am looking forward to Gerrit Holtman solving our goalscoring problems. Gerrit Holtmann who was missing in the first game(as he just got married) is scheduled to play in the final 2 group games and has proven that he can do that even winning the 2021 Bundesliga Goal of the Year in that top tier league and has also scored another fantastic goal against Bayern Munich. www.bundesliga.com/en/bunde...e-2122-haaland-nkunku-bellingham-gnabry-20075However that comes with an asterisk. He has never practiced with the Philippine team before so there is a question of how that as well as jetlag and the high altitude of the venue in Mongolia will affect his game.

Gerrit Holtmann ahead of Azkals debut Holtmann is scheduled to make his Azkals debut on Saturday against Mongolia, days after the team started their campaign in the qualifiers where they settled for a scoreless draw. Holtmann only arrived on Thursday after his recent wedding. The Philippine football community is abuzz with the much-anticipated debut of Holtmann, who plays for VfL Bochum in the German Bundesliga. Holtmann has five goals so far for his club in the 2021-2022 season. But Azkals coach Thomas Dooley is tempering expectations about the arrival of Holtmann to the team and its chances to advance into the tournament proper next year. “Obviously, it is difficult when you have the last game played three weeks ago and you get married, couldn’t train that much the last couple of weeks. But he still wants to be a part of it and help as much as he can,” said Dooley, during media availability with Filipino reporters via Zoom on Thursday. Dooley said Holtmann trained with the team on Thursday just hours after arrival, but admitted he still needs more time to recover from jetlag and be accustomed with his teammates. “It is difficult. Maybe he never played on a turf field like we have here. The turf we have here is different than the ones that we also have in the Philippines… In Germany, nobody plays in fields especially the professionals. They play on grass. It’s a totally different game for him.” “Anybody expecting to join the team and now, we are fine, we will be scoring a lot of goals because he is a Bundesliga player is wrong. He needs time like everybody else. Players don’t know him. He doesn’t know the other players. There’s still a time change that he has. He just arrived after like 14, 15-hour flight. The last training session that he had was days ago,” said Dooley. Dooley said the 27-year-old Holtmann is excited to help the team. “I had a conversation with him this morning. We had breakfast together and we were talking a little bit. He is very excited to be here,” said Dooley. Holtmann’s Azkals debut was delayed after he missed the last international window due to COVID-19. “Now, he really wanted to come over and play with us. He is really very excited to be part of this team,” said Dooley. “But to expect from him that we will be going to win games because he is there, obviously, that’s too much. We have to be realistic,” said Dooley. www.spin.ph/football/dooley...ls-for-afc-asian-cup-qualifiers-a795-20220609

It looks like the Philippines has no choice but to defeat Palestine in order to advance. Both the 2 last 2nd ranked teams(Malaysia and Indonesia) have easier assignments in the final round and can overtake the Philippines if they win those games.
If the Philippines win against Palestine, they most likely win the group. If they draw or lose, and both Malaysia and Indonesia win their last game, they end up last of the 2nd runnerups and out of the Asian Cup.
With 6 points and their +6 goal differential, Palestine have more or less assured themselves a chance of being among the best 2nd placed teams, so they might not have the urgency to play their best game, but the Philippines cannot count on this.

Palestine 4-0 Philippines
The Philippine Men’s National Team’s chances of qualifying for the AFC Asian Cup 2023 were dashed following a 4-0 loss to Palestine, Tuesday 14 June 2022 at the MFF Stadium in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.
The result saw the Philippines finish their qualifying campaign in second place with four points.
The Azkals’ qualification to the Asian Cup, however remains in the balance depending on the results of the other groups where five group runners up, along with the group winners will advance to the final round to be played next year.
Goals from Saleh Chihadeh (31’), Tamer Seyam (42’), Mohammed Yamin (55’), and Abu Warda (72’) allowed Palestine to finish as Group A winners.
Gerrit Holtman, who scored the match winner against Mongolia last Saturday, had a chance to reduce the deficit in the first half, but his effort was saved.
Simone Rota, also went close in the hour mark with a header from Holtmann’s free kick, but sent it wide.

Philippines eliminated from Asian Cup after both Indonesia and Malaysia won their respective matches earning the final 2 runnerup slots to the tournament.
