Posted this in the other forum, but I wanna share it with you guys as well: Winning start for new coach Hans Weiss eh? Now Let's start looking at how he eased past the Mongolians: New coach Hans Weiss showed how powerful the Philippine team can be when the players are utilized in the right positions. For the eyes of many pundits, the Philippines played like a European team, demonstrating passing football, creating acres of spaces and attacking from both flanks ... goo.gl/uWeME

Nice analysis. Broke down systematically the team formation and substitution patterns(which was in stark contrast to the near lack of any substitutions during the Suzuki cup) made by the coach. The author also accurately pointed out the numerous chances created as well as the lack of finishing which I hold Araneta most responsible for. However the article did not address the defensive breakdowns and the loss of shape later in the 2nd half in our haste to score more goals. With more time to prepare for the 2nd game, this lapses could be addressed in training and a better offensive option at striker could be found possibly Chad Gould, William Guerridon or Patrick Reichert to improve our finishing.

Yeah they should deploy a more lethal finisher inside the box. Araneta seem to be on his off days - He should start scoring to help the team and they couldn't always rely on Phil.

Dammit, I should have seen this sooner so I could have made a pointer to it from PinoyFootball! Nice work, it's clear and well-explained. We should work together in the near future.

But Araneta is scoring left and right in the domestic League. he has a decent number of goals in UFL CUP & he already scored in UFL League to. I know its a different level of game. Is it malas?

Well as they always say- when you're suited up for the national team its a whole different feeling compared to club football. He just need to end his goal drought and I think from there he will gain confidence.

Maybe we should take it from the football analysts of Star Sports when they said "Ian Araneta is a hard-working player but he's just not good enough, he's not at this level."
I felt sad when I heard it but then I realized they're just saying the truth.

Pinoy football. Isn't that David P's website? Isn't he from Chicago? So am I. I wonder if he writes any articles for the local soccer scene over here.

^ Yup, David P's publisher of PinoyFootball. Maybe we should take it from the football analysts of Star Sports when they said "Ian Araneta is a hard-working player but he's just not good enough, he's not at this level." I felt sad when I heard it but then I realized they're just saying the truth. I remember that and it was a bit harsh. It's true but not completely. I think Ian's problem at that level has more to do with his gigil/lack of composure than his lack of talent. And if he's really a hard worker, as the StarSports guy observed, Ian should work hard on taming his gigil. Then perhaps, he'll be good enough as a striker on that level.

my commendation to Jason Sabio... He's in shape..the composure he has at that time...it was great. never pa syang gumulong sa field during that game. and the passes he made...especially the one that was being converted into our 2nd goal for that night.
