Here's my prediction against Myanmar: Quite a few surprises. I heard Gener might miss the Myanmar game due to injury? I put that into perspective and left him out in my squad. I placed Jonsson back on RB, Aly and Anton on CB and Sabio on the left. In my midfield, it's the usual James Y. and Chieffy on the flanks but Simon G.'s partner in the middle is Becite. Why? He's the most potent replacement in the squad that lacks a good midfielder. Becite has also played for the team several times in the past. Coach Weiss should consider him. The line-up is of course without Lucena (who will only make it against Palestine and Bangladesh) and I decided to leave Gier out (since I heard he will fly out after the Palestine game). My full strength squad, provided that Gier, Lucena and Gener are available, would look something like this: Gener and Gier are back in the backline, being right and left fullbacks respectively. Jonsson becomes a defensive midfielder. James Younghusband and Chieffy are in the center of the midfield. Lucena is in an advanced, attacking MF role while Aldeguer and Araneta are up front.

From this article in Malaya, Weiss expresses concern about Espinosa's form, so I think we will be seeing Araneta pairing up with Guirado in the first game.
"Weiss used the two-hour practice to size up new strikers, Filipino-Spanish Angel Guirado, who arrived that same day, and Germany-based William Espinosa, whose parents are from Laguna.
While generally satisfied with the form of the 6-foot-3 Guirado, Weiss was unhappy with what Espinosa showed on the pitch.
"I was unimpressed with Espinosa compared with the last time. He didn’t look match-fit. I expected better," related Weiss, who was earlier impressed by the 29-year-old forward when he trained with the Azkals in Bacolod.
"Maybe given one more week, Espinosa would be better, but we do not have that much time."
Guirado and Espinosa are expected to pick up the slack for striker Phil Younghusband, sidelined by a torn right hamstring suffered in the Mongolia outing and will be out of commission for at least a month for rehab.
"He (Younghusband) is a big loss, but I hope his replacements will be able to step up," the German mentor said. "

Acc. to that article it will be a 4-5-1 which is a defensive setup. As the lone striker we need Ian to deliver this time if we have any chance of winning the game. Looking forward to seeing how creative Angel is from the AM position.

Well deserved, Ruel Gener staying in the line-up! No hinrichsen nor Espinosa, hopefully Ian can score now! We believe!

I think it's a smart defensive formation. Takes advantage of the team's strengths. It also converts well to a counterattack with the roaming midfielders. I kinda like the idea of moving Aly up from the back four a bit so he can give the offense some muscle when the time comes. James and Chieffy got a big job ahead in the wings as usual. Go Ian, now's your time to shine!

Ian Araneta would likely start this match together with Guirado after Coach Weiss got disappointed with William Espinosa Gueridonn in training yesterday saying that William lack the Sharpness in training and seems like he's not Match Fit. William Gueridonn has the quality though, maybe he was not playing as much football back in Germany after training with the Azkals in Bacolod.

I think Ian will break his long drought of international goals. I saw him going back to his Mizuno boots during their last practice at UMak. There's no problem if Ian would believe in little superstitions (that if he will use his Mizuno boots in this tournament).

Weiss opts to field makeshift back four with Borromeo playing the holding midfield role . Boro to Play Defensive Midfield? With midfield dynamo Jason de Jong missing again in the opening match of the AFC Challenge Cup against the host nation, the team is looking for other options to fill the defensive midfield spot which was their weakness when they lost 2-1 to Mongolia in the 2nd leg of the qualifiers. The team needed someone to fill that gap as they’re losing control of midfield, giving more possession resulting in more chances for the opposition to score. Skipper Aly Borromeo will need to turn to his playmaking skills in challenge to fill the role, combining it with his defensive qualities. We saw Borromeo play midfield regularly with Dan Palami’s Global FC when they won the UFL Cup last season with the skipper voted as the Most Valuable Player. Now with Kaya FC he plays center back, but at times switched to midfield when the team lacks presence upfront. Will he be effective in midfield at international level? We are yet to see. Captain Aly will now be leading from midfield, and will be looking to protect the back four, formed by Roel Gener , Anton del Rosario, Rob Gier, and Ray Jonsson . The Azkals will be given more confidence at the back as Neil Etheridge is back standing between the posts and will be looking to add another to his clean sheet record. source : soccercentral.ph/news/boro-play-defensive-midfield

kudos to coach w, the azkals' centerfield really needs overhauling. aly as defensive midfielder is okay, but i would have delrosario play that position. aly is most important as a central defender.
