Photo courtesy: Sudarshan Ranjit/Goalnepal.com Kathmandu: Defending champions DPR Korea began their 2012 AFC Challenge Cup Group D campaign on a winning note thrashing Sri Lanka 4-0 while hosts Nepal overcame Afghanistan 1-0 on Thursday. Choe Kum Chol opened the scoring for the East Asians in the second minute and Ri Chol Myong doubled the lead three minutes later. Pak Nam Chol found their third in the 21st minute while Choe sealed the fate of the Lankans two minutes after the restart. DPR Korea coach Yun Jong Su, however, played down his side’s remarkable performance saying he is expecting tough resistance from other teams. “I have come to the conclusion that all four teams are not weak. We scored much less than expected because our rivals had a strong defence. We have a problem in finishing but are good at quick passes and surprise attack,” he said. Bharat Khawas scored the match-winner for Nepal three minutes before the half hour mark. Nepal’s English coach Graham Roberts was delighted with his team’s performance. “We were good in every department and all the players were highly spirited. I am proud of my players,” he said. DPR Korea will meet Nepal while Sri Lanka will face Afghanistan on Saturday. Top two teams from this group will join Palestine, Philippines, India, Turkmenistan, Maldives and Tajikistan in the eight-team finals.

DPR Korea Coach Yun Jong Su Says He Will Use Different Tactics Against Nepal Apr 8, 2011 06:54:06 PM
The defending Champions DPR Korea may have thrashed Sri Lanka 4-0 in its opening match at Halchowk Stadium but Chollima Coach Yun Jong Su was not satisfied with his boys' clinical finishing.
Su has already declared that all three opponents were strong and they couldn't take any match lightly.
DPR Korea is taking on Nepal at Dasrath Stadium tomorrow at 3:30 PM.
"We are not taking Nepal lightly", Su said, "They are playing at home in front of thousands supporters. We have different strategy for Nepal. It will be different than what we applied against Sri Lanka".
However, Su didn't want to reveal his strategy against Gorkhali.
"We have come to Nepal to win all three matches", Su said, "This would help us to tune in before FIFA world Cup qualifiers".

113th rank team winning by 4 goals against a 173rd ranked team... fair score? or did Sri Lanka played decent defense... ;D i think the 113th rank is an understatement, i think the nokors should have been ranked higher than that simply coz they entered the world cup finals last year. & about that score of 4-0 of course, the first reactions from the fans were 4-0 lang, but to be honest, the final score does not reflect the whole story of a football game, there's a lot of factors involved in scoring a goal or not, anything can happen inside the pitch for ex. you could loose a game with your team's stats that read 10 goal attempts with no conversion & your opponents stats read 1 goal attempt with one conversion, go figure! ;D

North Korea scored only 1 goal against the 174th ranked team Nepal? what if NorKor vs Phil? do we have a big chance to pull an unpset? Firstly, football is not math bro. Final scores don't always show you deserving, fully reasonable numbers so we just can't calculate it like that. At times, a 1-0 game after an extremely one-sided performance happens in football. Well, as beho said above, sometimes a dominator even lose the game after an absolute domination of the ball possession rate like 80-20, and shots on goal like 20-1. Also, on the other side, a 5-0 game between a well-matched rivals happens as well. You can sometimes see it happening even at El Clasico or Germany vs England match or such big games. Secondly, having said that, NK collecting 5 goals in 2 games against Sri Lanka and Nepal is indeed way lower than expected. NK team in Nepal now doesn't have most of their veteran players who lead the country to the WC for the first time in nearly a half century, and this young NK team might not actually be as strong offensively as their seniors yet. By the way, it's disappointing that we can't find any video footages of these games, especially Sri Lanka's games of course.
