first of all I am not against americans, but based on what i've read and seen that americans are the main reason we dont like football mainly because they eliminated football in our society and brought for us basketball.
back to the topic :
based on what ive seen in some forums they line us to brazilians in football cause of the same drive/desire for such sport.
we are virtualy same cause our built/height is almost the same 5'8 and we are catholic ;D
far before the likes of Leonidas da Silva , Pele , Zico , blah blah etc. too many brazilian legends ;D , we produced worldclass footballers of our own like Paulino , Teus , Amestoy etc.... who all played in spain.
if we probably aint colonized by Americans, probably thousands of filipino footballers around the world.
- Just My Opinion ;D

And if the americans didnt came....i think philippines is the land full of dumb, idiot and stupid people. Without the americans (thomasites) we were never educated.....there will be F Marcos, B Aquino, L salonga etc.....though im not a Pro american but still we owe them our education....there good and bad thing happen during the american era...and one of it the lost of passion of football....

Marcos and Aquino are a product of USian shenanigans yup, i agree that there are lots of dumb and idiotic Filipinos but they pale in comparison to USian dumbness and idiocy but "wenden69" is the dumbest of them all

I disagree w/ wenden69. even b4 the americans came we are educated enough. the only prob. w/ spanish era educ. is they dont give education too the poor. but look at rizal he 1st studied here in the PHI. example UST - spanish priest founded it

The University of Santo Tomas and the Ateneo de Manila preceded American occupation. And until this day, both institutions are respected centres of Philippine education. So, wenden69 will be off the mark in his comment. However, I've said it before (I believe) and I'll say it again. It wasn't the American occupation that killed football in the Philippines. It was even during their time, in 1907, that the Philippine Football Federation (then the PAFA, see Wikipedia) was founded. So, faajose is also wrong.

I don't really think it depends on race nor culture.
Becoming a football superpower depends on the football culture. If you have a football culture like many of the South Americans, then you can build a monster national team. Take for example Argentina, imagine a world where Boca Juniors fans and River Plate fans don't want to kill (literally) each other. A world like that is going to be a sad world for football.

For the pro-american dude. . . If you look at every single Spanish and Portoguess colony in the world, you'll see that the Iberians were the least racist colonizers in the world.
La Liga Filipina, were spain educated individuals. At least 70 years before civil rights started in the US, Rizal and friends were already studying side-by-side with Spanish counterparts and for that matter other spanish colony people.
Spainiards converted their colonies to catholicism and actually educated them rather than Dutch, German and most especially Belgian colonists who treated their non-white subjects as just working tools.

waw, Yankee loving sbs eh? I bet you want to go to America ASAP. Traitors, better play basketball than with football.
We're the only country in SE Asia that considers the Yankee sport Basketball as their majority sports. Huwag natin ipagmayabang ang basketball kung tayo #1 dito sa lugar natin, KASI TAYO LANG ANG NAGBIBIGAY PANSIN SA BASKETBALL.
They cared more for FOOTBALL rather than YANKBALL.
