Paul's new club Ado Den Haag, qualified for the Europa league next season which means that Paul might be the first Filipino player to participate in the UEFA European leagues in modern times. The draw will be on June 20th and the first game is played on Thursday, 14th July 2011. We now have a new team to root for in the Europa league. ;D

We can also root for Fulham since they have also qualified for the Europa League. Hopefully Neil can break into the first team again next season.

I believe Ray Jonsson has already played in the UEFA Cup for Grindavik.... You are right. The UEFA cup was the direct precursor of the Europa Cup that Paul is possibly playing in although I would think a Dutch team like Ado Den Haag would have a better chance in doing well in European league competition, than a team from Iceland. That would make Ray the first Filipino to play in a European club competition in modern times. The first Filipino player ever to compete in a European Cup though is Manuel Amechazurra back in the second decade of the 20th century when he participated in one of the earliest international club competitions in Europe, the defunct Pyrenees Cup which FC Barcelona won from 1910-1913 and ended prematurely by WW I.

as Paul Mulders joins Azkals. a Dutch Indon Jhon van Beukering will play for INDONESIA this WCQ. From the club Feyenoord Rotterdam (AFC Ajax rival team) and one of the "big three" football club in Netherlands. He is ready to give up his Dutch citizenship for Indonesia. His Indonesian passport is now being processed. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indonesia_national_football_team

Van Beukering isn't playing for Feyenoord anymore. He signed a contract with Pelita Jaya, an Indonesian team, in March. He had difficulties getting a Indo passport due to the fact he had represented the youth teams of the Netherlands.

gerard
He had difficulty getting an indo passport because indonesia does not recognized dual citizenship. He had to make a decision to give up his dutch citizenship in order to play for the indos. In the international football forum of this website, there is a thread on indonesian football with the list of eligible foreign players who made that decision already and are part of their team and others who are eligible but have not yet chosen to do so as well as those in process the most famous being Sergio Van Dijk who is a star in the Australian A league. You guys should continue the discussion over there since we are getting off topic.

I've read on the Dutch Wikipedia that the Fifa was being a pain in the ass for Van Beukering because he has represented the Netherlands.. I think the reason you said and the reason I said were both the problem ^^ Back on topic: Paul Mulders will be a great addition to the Azkals squad I'm 100% sure of that. I think that the biggest adjustment for him will be the difference in temperature.. I had a hard time training in the Philippines.. the climate of the Netherlands and the Philippines is a huge difference.. But i'm sure he'll get used to it

5 of the new players in the Phillippine national team(Lucena, Schrock, Cagara, Jonsson and Falkesgaard) were also youth team members of their respective countries. They need to file a change of affiliation with FIFA before playing in the WC qualifiers. Hopefully the PFF has addressed this before the Sri Lanka game.
