I dont know about you but I dont see any leadership qualities in Caligdong. For starters hes "ballhog".
How do you expect your team mates to respect you if your too ballhog? ballhogs in my team are resented, what more in the national team comprised of Pinoys playing in top leagues in Europe?

Care to cite references, links, and relevant articles saying or indirectly pertaining to Chieffy being a ball-hog?
All I know is it's Ian Araneta whom Coach Weiss referred to as selfish.

He's the co-skipper or vice-captain of the Azkals. So in the absence of Aly, he will be the temporary skipper for the 1st leg against Kuwait.
But still the Azkal captain is Aly.
nuff said.

In the absence of Borromeo, the captaincy has been given to caligdong. Now, this is the qualifiers and I really dont think that Caligdong deserves to be captain. JYH, or Rob Gier are more qualified.
Go watch leg 1 of Sri Lanka vs Philippines again. Did you watch it?

Also, Caligdong seems to have trouble expressing himself. Airs out dirty laundry in the media (watch Jessica Soho's interview), uses racist terms (pure pinoy vs Europeans), regards his team mates as Europeans and not Pinoy. If anything he also looks after the welfare of his kababayans from Barotac.
Now tell me, will he make a good captain?

Go watch leg 1 of Sri Lanka vs Philippines again. Did you watch it? Yup I watched it. Sri Lankan are playing rough and dirty with matching foul drama. The pitch was gross. The ball don't roll compared to a regular football pitch so they resort to long balls. I don't have anybody playong selfishly on the first leg. I can understand their tendency to over-dribble the ball since the pitch is not suited for short passes. What is frustrating in the 1st leg is Ian Araneta "weak" shot when he managed to breakaway. He could have tapped it to the left or to the right or could have chipped it over the head of Manjula Fernando but what did he did? he just flicked it straight to the keeper.

And to be a captain, for me he is fit...experience wise sa national team is fit for him.

Ok here it is... what is racist in Caligdongs statement?
He said hes pure pinoy, while his team mates, mainly the European based PINOYS are Europeans daw. Pure blooded pa nga daw sya which is a very strong term.
Ok so you are from the Visayas and maybe you have never been to another country where thngs like these would be perceived as racist.
In the Philippines its ok to make fun of Aetas and no one would call you a racist. They make fun of black people and its still not racist. Do that in another country and Im pretty sure you will get a black eye or be reprimanded openly.
Did you know that the Euro based Pinoys asked the media not to refer to them as Fil-Foreign?

Ok with regards to Chieffy's interview with Jessica Soho, yeah in fairness to Media, the media seemed to sensationalize/make a big deal out of it since Chieffy's remarks will kinda get media's attention. Should he have given simple, unassuming, yet correct statements then I think Jessice wouldn't have digged in for more "juicy scoops" out of him.
You cannot blame Chieffy nor any player on the other hand. You cannot blame him for spilling out something which is unnecessary. I n my opinion, this media ruckus would have never occur if the Azkal management had a PR officer. Someone who's savvy enough to speak in front of the media in behalf of the team. Someone wiho will "coach" the coaches and players in how to answer issues in front of the media in a tactical manner.
That's why corporations, famous celebrities, even government departments hire good PR officers. They're paid for their communication skills and evade media traps But on the same time they make sure the media, in return, can get the scoop they want without the need for disclosing everything his Client wishes not be get publicized.

Agree, people must start being careful with the use of terms. "Pure blood" as a description is racist, the implication being if you're not 100% percent Filipino blood, you are what? "Unpure." Whenever we start differentiating on an ethnic or racial context, that's treading dangerous ground already in my opinion. Go look up neo-nazi sites or read their literature, you will find many references to pure blood and pure race. I've said it in these posts before, if any distinction must be made among the players, let it be on a geographical context - homegrown or local based in comparison to foreign based.

whats up with those 'Chieffy-haters' out there, yeah? uu nagballhog sya nung Leg 1 vs. Sri Lanka. but he redeemed himself naman nung Leg 2. and Chieffy is the vice-captain, in the absence of Sir Aly, thus, he will be the designated capt. duh? FYI, Chieffy is better than you all. he serve his country by playing in the National Team and enlisting in the Arm Forces at the same time. how bout u 'Chieffy-hater', anong nagawa mo sa bansa natin? REKLAMDOR! bitter lang kayo mga bata...ampalaya shake, you like?

And technically if there are filipinos look at there passport. for clarification im not against with the foreign base....it is just the way people react on the interview....... yes im a visayan but i already went to USA, singapore, hongkong and thailand (job training oppurtunities), and i have a fair share of insult from the other race and the worst part (though very few but not majority) I encounter insult from the foreign based pinoys. (but off course it is the other part of the story, just an info for you) for me in my understanding he is just implying the importance of the locals in any sports that's all.
