just read that. looks like sunil is in california where klinsman is. maybe they were talking. I prefer Guus Hiddink but the US would have to pay the Turkish federation millions of dollars to get him. Acc. to Ives, aside from Klinsman, Marcelo Lippi is also being considered. Per Twitter, Grant Wahl is reporting that a US soccer insider has informed him "You are not going to be surprised" by the identity of the new coach. He also reports that Gulati cancelled his trip to Rio for the world cup draw and remains in California. Klinnsman also happens to be in California. Not hard to read between those lines... twitter.com/#!/GrantWahl

Hey, I'm excited now to see how this will unfold! They got time before the Confederations Cup. By then we should see how much Klinsman has developed the team.

"Right now the US have dual-citizen American/Germans: Jones, Yelldell, and Chandler but there are a few still floating out there that could really help us out. Fabian Johnson at Hoffenheim and Daniel Williams at Feiburg or the Hertha guys: Brooks, Morales, and Boyd. There could be a some that I am forgetting. "
Quote on big soccer. Just like us the US is aggressively looking for dual citizen players for their national team. With Klinsmann as coach, expect some of these Germans to consider the US even more.

Well the situation of the Yanks, it is just the same like the Filipinos, they're still outsourcing their players outside the states. It seems that their league, the MLS isn't developed yet. I don't know if their system of franchises rather than football clubs systems don't work. Maybe I'm wrong too.

I don't know if their system of franchises rather than football clubs systems don't work. Maybe I'm wrong too. No offense, but the Americans are not in the same boat as the Filipinos. Nobody is "outsourced". They all live here in the U.S., and almost everyone trained here. Here's the roster and you can see where they all live(d) and glean their personal information. www.ussoccer.com/Teams/US-Men/2011-Rosters/110523-Gold-Cup.aspx We're also currently ranked number 30 in the world. Our youngest player, Juan Agudelo, moved to the US when he was 8, and he developed his skills here. It's not like he played in the Colombian League and then brought his skill set to the USMNT. The MLS is gaining in popularity, albeit still the number 5 sport behind hockey, but the talent and fandom are growing every year. Even though they're in their twilight years, we do have Thierry Henry & David Beckham playing in the MLS along with many players coming from Latin America. MLS is probably a touch less talented than, or on par with, the Mexican Premier League (aka FMF). And Mexico, by its own right, is a Futbol Crazy Country. My own Houston Dynamo played in a few tournaments against a few Mexican League Teams and have won a lot of games. You can see as far as the friendlies are concerned for this year, the MLS Teams are playing the giants of the world, like Real Madrid vs the LA Galaxy/Philadelphia Union, Bolton vs The Houston Dynamo, Manchester United vs NE Revolution/Chicago Fire/Seattle Sounders. Barcelona is playing Club America (from the FMF) in Dallas, TX. There's going to be a rematch between Barcelona & Manchester United in Washington, DC. These are all key indicators, to me anyway, that futbol in the US is here to stay and grow. It's just a matter of time before we pose a real and consistent threat to the top European, South American, and Japanese/Korean teams. But our top US athletes play American Football (tied as my favorite sport with futbol), basketball, or baseball because it pays in the millions professionally here at home.

Hey carles,
I am a FilAm so I know what you are saying. The US is definitely in a different situation now with a fully functioning professional league, MLS, to act as a feeder to their national team.
Nevertheless, the US have a tradition of looking for players from abroad to reinforce their teams, including players like Thomas Dooley, and David Regis in the past and current additions Fil Germans Jones, Yeldell and Chandler who were born and raised in Germany and whose professional experience in Europe help round out our team.
They will continue to look for players from abroad and especially in the U-20 team with Thomas Rongen developed a database of hundreds of potential players from abroad that could reinforce the different US national youth teams.
At the senior level, because of their relative strength of the US team, they could afford to only consider players who play in the 1st and 2nd tier of their respective countries, who if they excel are invited to camp and play in friendlies to determine their suitability to play for the men's team as well as find out if they are any better than the current players they already have.
In many ways, since these players they are looking at are dual citizens, they also have to convince some of this players that playing for the US team will be a better option of them than those of their home countries.
As I mentioned with the hiring of Jurgen Klinsmann as coach of the US team, the chances of some of these players from Germany choosing the US will improve and hopefully help the US achieve its goals in the short term.
Nonetheless, the main goal in the US is to develop a system that can produce players that are world class and therefore help the team achieve its goal down the road of winning the world cup. The US is not there yet as demonstrated in the last World Cup, so they will continue to seek players from traditionally strong football countries to help their team, just as other weaker countries like the Philippines, will look to the US as a source of players as well.
