Well for one thing since FIFA is funding the artificial pitch, they need to get FIFA approval for the change of venue from Philsports to Rizal and that means they need an official inspection. For all we know, FIFA might have found out that the Philippine govt. has plans of tearing down the Rizal complex in the future, and might not approve the deal.

I'm just thinking, isn't the track oval beneficial for our long throwers? Kasi ginagamit nila yun para maka-buwelo eh (e.g. Jason Sabio). If the track oval is removed, then konti na lang yung space para maka-buwelo.

Are there any updates regarding the renovation of the RMS? When will they replaced it to artificial one and when do they upgrade the seating capacity? This is the host for Independence Day Cup. But on April RMS will be used for Volcanoes matches

Major facelift looms for Azkals' home By Alder Almo (philstar.com) Updated March 21, 2012 05:50 PM MANILA, Philippines – The jubilant Philippine Azkals will have a new "home" fit for their heroic efforts when the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium undergoes a major facelift later this year. As they press their bid to host the next AFC Challenge Cup – where the Azkals finished at a historic third place – and more international friendlies, the Philippine Football Federation (PFF) entered into an agreement with the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) to dress up the current home of the Azkals with a world-class artificial turf. In addition, they will renovate the facilities that will include a bigger dugout for players, additional seating capacity and a media lounge. "FIFA representatives have already inspected the Rizal pitch and the renovation is scheduled to take place after the FIFA Friendlies in June," said PFF President Mariano "Nonong" Araneta. The Rizal pitch will host an international rugby tournament this summer before it will be closed to let the field rest for the friendlies in June, where the federation is expecting a complete national squad in those FIFA match dates. The PFF is arranging to have ASEAN rivals, possibly Thailand, Indonesia and Vietnam, play the Azkals in the early weeks running up to the country's Independence Day as part of the squad's buildup for the AFF Suzuki Cup in December. It can be recalled that the Azkals lost their rights to a home match in the Suzuki Cup semis last year against Indonesia due to the lack of a playing venue that met FIFA standards. After the friendlies, the major facelift will get underway and is expected to be completed in two to three months. www.philstar.com/SportsArticle.aspx?articleId=789494&publicationSubCategoryId=200

RMS pitch taken February 26, 2012, 14:30h. This is not welcoming. the pitch in marikina sports complex is far much better than this, it's greener, they have sprinkler system on the pitch. i wonder why are they not holding games there, i mean while they are renovating rizal maybe... i know that there is a certain amount of entrace fee, P10 i believe.

According to article, renovations of RMS bleachers will start after Independence Day Cup. So where will be the August 15 match will be? When will be the completion date of the new RMS? Soo excited for the new look.
Does anyone have the idea of the new look of RMS?

Soo excited for the new look. Does anyone have the idea of the new look of RMS? Then have the August 15 friendly in Panaad! Simple! They are targeting November to finish the expansion to be able to make RMS the stadium of choice for the home match if ever the Azkals make it to the knockout stages again.

Even if we renovate we still have a shortage of pitches. How about a partnership with 1 or 2 corporate sponsors.
In the US, cities and pro teams have corporate sponsors to fund their home court/pitch.
Ever wonder why the Lakers play in the STAPLES Center? Staples is an office supply super store/company. They help pay for a coliseum while the city or county government provides the space. Staples then get to have their name mentioned whenever there is a game(advertisement 101), while the city/county get money from taxes whenever there are games and the team has a state of the art home. Everyone wins.
How about really large rich company like SM or Jolibee etc? Cebu Pacific stadium? How about a PFF patnership, like, PFF Pure Gold Coliseum? A nice new (expandable)15K seater built within 2-5 years is better than a 75K seater which will be in the planning/funding stage for the next 15 years.

MLS during its early years got an exception from FIFA to use non regulation size fields in some cities, which were used for American style football, to hold their games. Later on each city built soccer specific stadiums built to their own specifications, but early on the pitches were a lot narrower.

the malditas used it during the 2005 SEAG. the inspection team then approved the games to be held there bec. it meet their standard. according to this article: sports.inquirer.net/sport/football/view/20110114-314500/Marikina-wants-to-be-sports-capitalthe field is well within the standard size for international football matches. and this was written over a year ago, so i suppose they have renovated it already. the UFL ad used it also on their infomercial.
