Philippine men’s futsal squad shuts out Australia’s Black Knights FC By Celest R. Flores INQUIRER.net 10:11 pm | Monday, October 17th, 2011 0 shareNew 0 MANILA, Philippines—Displaying fine footwork and sheer speed, the Philippine men’s futsal squad blanked visiting Black Knights FC from Australia, 3-0, in friendly match Monday at the Ninoy Aquino stadium. Fil-Iranian Misagh Bahadoran, who is also a member of the national football team, starred in the victory for his relentless attacks, for which he was rewarded in the 39th minute. After close misses, Bahadoran finally connected on a free kick to double the lead, 2-0, even as he assisted Eddie Mallari in the ninth minute with a slick pass for the opening point. In the 43rd minute, Sajad Khodarami blizted all the way for the country’s final goal. National team head coach Esmael Sedigh, though, felt the squad—known as the Philippine Eagles—could have scored at least 7-8 goals with the way they played. The Philippines, a potent mix of locals and Fil-foreigners, could have padded onto the lead with its countless attempts but lacked consistency in finishing. Keeper Francis Paranpan also stood his ground in the face of the Black Knights’ wave of attacks with a brilliant save after another. One of Paranpan’s notable saves was when he thwarted a stunning header by Australia’s Mitomo Somehara early in the match. The friendly match is part of the squad’s build-up for the 2011 Southeast Asian Games in November. Earlier, the Philippine women’s futsal team also shut out the WNCAA All-Stars in an exhibition match with the same score. Jocelyn Guico, Richelle Placencio and Honey Thomason filled the score sheet for the Philippine side. sports.inquirer.net/20761/philippine-mens-futsal-squad-shuts-out-australias-black-knights-fcI am not sure but I thought I read earlier that the Philippines was initially not sending a futsal team to the SEA games. Acc. to this article, they are in the process of finalizing a private sponsor to allow them to partipate. sports.inquirer.net/20167/six...mes-says-magatThe Philippines has a futsal league, the Philippines Futsal League, that just like the UFL, is expanding this year, in its 3rd year of existence. It has the advantage of having numerous venues(basketball courts) to play in compared to football. Unlike football, the PFL also organized a women's league, to help develop members for the national team.

Philippine Futsal 2012 Calendar Here is the proposed 2012 Philippine Futsal Calendar. I believe that by planning & organizing in advance makes our job of promoting Futsal easier & greatly helps us in achieving our passion of popularizing Futsal in the Philippines. This gives ample time to: -look for potential sponsors -reserve better venues -prepare our referees & coaches -teams to organize, be fit & find team sponsors. It is about time that we organize a group of referees that is strictly for futsal only. The quality of refereeing is somewhat a neglected part of professionalizing futsal. But we should realize that better refereeing increases the quality of the games, less complaints, players are forced to be more skillful plus coaches will also have to improve their coaching tactics. FIFA has continuously amended the rules inorder to improve the quality & promote Fair Play that is why we should also be updated on the rules. Having high quality referees also greatly prepares our national team (PHILIPPINE EAGLES & LA AMIGAS) for international competitions. But the challenge here is to have enough tournaments so that these referees will have enough games to officiate & at least earn a decent living. Also, having coaching courses strictly for coaches with futsal teams should be a priority. We have to improve the quality of coaching around the Philippines inorder to improve all the futsal teams. For the 4th Philippine Futsal League: (August until December) We will now be having the 1st & 2nd Division. The quarterfinalists in the 3rd PFL automatically advances to the 1st division which will now be League Type. while teams 9-16 of the 3rd PFL is relegated to the 2nd Division. NEW TEAMS who would want to join the PFL will have to join the 2nd Division first and should achieve promotion to the 1st division by virtue of finishing in the top 2 of the 2nd division. The bottom 2 teams of the 1st division is relegated to the 2nd division. There will also be plans of having the Visayas & Mindanao Leg of the Philippine Futsal League. And if the opportunity presents itself, we will have the Philippine Futsal League National Finals. We have a 5-year plan for the development of the Philippine Futsal League into a professional Futsal League. Every year we will try to expand & improve. Feel free to make any suggestions or additional information, since having everyone involved & informed is a great way of coordinating & creating the best plans. On our 10 year plan to popularize Futsal. Year 1 is INTRODUCTION -to just make more Filipinos see the sport by having more tournaments. Newspaper ads, website, internet visibility, provincial tournaments & free futsal clinics to the youth. Year 2 is IMPROVING THE QUALITY OF FUTSAL. -to improve the quality of futsal by having coaching & refereeing courses, while continuing the programs we already made on our 1st year. -we also need to have more tournaments in the provinces which The PILIPINAS FUTSAL CUP WINNERS CUP is doing by finding passionate provincial coordinators. -having an independent futsal referees group is also important. -marketing wise: -we need more corporate sponsors to show that futsal is more feasible to organize & also to show that futsal is more exciting & fast paced for the action hungry Filipino spectators. Having an organized calendar not only prevents us from overlapping each other, but also shows that the Philippine Futsal Committee with the help of the Pilipinas Futsal Community, is a new breed of people passionate for football & futsal Xarex Velasquez filipinasfutsal.wordpress.com/2011/09/19/philippine-futsal-2012-calendar/

Apparently there will be no futsal team included in the SEA games as the funds needed were not given to the POC by the prescribed deadline as this article mentions:
Futsal, baseball miss SEA Games deadline By June Navarro Philippine Daily Inquirer 10:39 pm | Thursday, October 20th, 2011 12 share20 8
MANILA, Philippines—The Philippine Olympic Committee could face sanction from the Indonesia Southeast Asian Games Organizing Committee once futsal and baseball, which both confirmed their participation, decide to skip the Games.
Philippine deputy chef de mission Romeo Magat and the country’s SEA Games secretariat waited way past office hours Thursday for futsal and baseball officials to make the payment for the participation of their athletes in the Nov. 11 to 22 meet but nobody came.
Futsal entered its men’s and women’s teams of 12 players each while baseball planned to bring a 22-man squad.
The athletes of both sports were among the 110 private-sponsored campaigners and 21 officials for whom the POC extended the courtesy of stretching the deadline yesterday so they could join the already approved roster of 424 athletes and 140 officials to be funded by the Philippine Sports Commission.
“They (baseball and futsal) begged to be included and yet they didn’t show up when we asked for the payment,” said Magat.
Sponsors for futsal and baseball need to cough up P75,000 to P80,000 for each athlete for the duration of the Games.
“Their noncompliance would force us to remove them,” said Magat. “But that’s not the problem. We’ll be penalized (by the SEA Games organizers) since they’re already considered as official entries.”
The POC had already paid the airline bookings of these athletes and officials.
Except for futsal and baseball, Magat said private backers of softball (17), bridge (13), sports climbing (2), judo (3), fencing (3), badminton (3), athletics (2), gymnastics (2), golf (2) and cycling (1) have already complied with the requirements.

POC approves 512 athletes for 26th SEA GamesMANILA, Philippines—The Philippine Olympic Committee approved, as expected, Monday a huge delegation of 512 athletes tasked to improve on the country’s previous fifth-overall placing in the Southeast Asian Games in Indonesia this month. “I expect improvements from the athletes whose coaches religiously made them do the strenghtening exercises that they were assigned,” said POC president Jose “Peping” Cojuangco Jr. Familiar names dominate the roster of gold medal candidates, even though no official dared to project whether the Filipinos can approximate their overall championship at home in 2005. After the breakthrough win, the Philippines plummeted to a record low sixth overall two years later in Thailand and barely improved to fifth in 2009 in Laos. Traditional boat race is represented by the biggest number of athletes with 39 but its members do not include the powerhouse cast that captured five golds and two silver medals in the recent world championship. The other sports with a big number of bets are futsal (28), basketball (men and women) 24, track and field (23), baseball (22), fencing (20), football (20), taekwondo (17), judo (15), wushu 14, billiards (13), bowling (12), rowing (12), chess (11), shooting (11), boxing (10), tennis (10), soft tennis (10), and swimming (10). Completing the list of sports with their number of athletes are archery (8), badminton (8), canoeing (5), equestrian (4), gymnastics (9), golf (7), karatedo (9), pencak silat (9), petanque (7), sailing (5), table tennis (6) and weightlifting (6). The Philippine Sports Commission is spending P45 million for the campaign, with P10 million coming from tycoon Manny V. Pangilinan and another P5 million from private firms and Malacañang. Of the 512 athletes, 95 from nine sports are being backed by private sponsors. sports.inquirer.net/21611/poc-approves-512-athletes-for-26th-sea-games

Philippine Futsal teams start their campaign: www.gmanews.tv/story/238493/s...ll-medal-hopesAcc. to this article, the national futsal team seems to better prepared than the football team, although they will be relying mostly on homegrown talents that have been training together a longer period of time. They will be facing tough experienced teams in their group with the men's team facing Indonesia and Vietnam and the women's team in a round robin tournament which includes Myanmar, Indonesia, Vietnam and Thailand. It also mentions the progress that futsal has made in the past year or so in popularizing the sport and the programs initiated to sustain the momentum.
