The Philippine Women's National Football Team is controlled by the
Philippine Football Federation, the governing body of soccer in the
country.

accept your invitation to have our Women's Team compete in your first
international Viking Soccer Club" he wrote.

Philippines participation in the 2012 LA Viking Cup followsan aggressive
Women’s Soccer Program. Last week, the International Football Federation
(FIFA) gave its green light and assured technical and financial support
for the creation of a Women’s Super League (WSL) in the country – amajor
undertaking expected to help elevate the “Malditas “ team in status just
like the “Azkals”. “We’ll be starting a Women’s Super League, the highest league in the Philippines It won’t be full professional in the beginning but the
direction is for it to be a pro league and it’s going to be nationwide.
There are still some questions at this point but the important thing is
we’ll not do this on our own; FIFA will be guidingus all the way through,”
Nierras said in a recent article published in Philippines.
For the Pinoy team, the 2012 LA Viking Cup fits into the country's plans to
provide exposure and top competition to their players.
Currently, the newly formed soccer organization is holding weekly football
tourneys for ladies, like the Women’s Football League,Women’s Summer
League. Nierras said the plan is to consolidate such activities, involve
provincial teams/clubs, upgrade them and create thetop-flight WSL.
“When the Women’s Super League starts, you’ll see a lotof foreign players
come in. We want to be able to elevate the quality of the national team players, that’s really our main purpose here,” said Nierras.
The “Malditas”, as they are known in the soccer world, are currently
ranked 88th in the world, gunning for a top 50 standing in the next few
years. They are eyeing a training camp in Australia or Thailand as part of
preparations for the 2012 AFF Women’s Championships in Ho Chi Minh,
Vietnam in September.
In the last edition of that tourney in Laos, the Malditas placed third in
Group B, finishing with only a point in the elimination round(0-1-2),
their best result a 2-2 draw with Malaysia.
"It is very exciting to add Philippines to our inaugural competition",
said Robert Kleinberger, LA Vikings President and Tournament organizer.
"We now have representation from Asia, North America, the Caribbean and Oceania and we currently have confirmations pending from other countries that are currently focused on the 2012 London Olympic Games.
It looks like we will have the remaining three spots filled as soon as the
games are finished.” he added.
