I actually would suggest using both the senior AND the U-23 lineups as separate teams.

Pinoy execs eye teamup with Fulham Football Club in promoting PHL tourismFebruary 28, 2012 5:20pm To promote Philippine-United Kingdom cultural and tourism ties, Filipino officials are eyeing a teamup with a prominent football team in the United Kingdom — the Fulham Football Club (FC) in the English Premier League in London. "The introductory meeting between the Philippine officials and the club formed part of the Embassy's economic diplomacy efforts and further broaden tourism and cultural ties between the Philippines and the United Kingdom," the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said about the February 11 meeting of Philippine officials with Fulham FC members. The DFA said Fulham FC and Philippine Azkals goalkeeper Neil Etheridge and Fulham sales manager Nick Childs welcomed to the team's home field, Craven Cottage, in west London the following Philippine officials: * Department of Tourism-UK Officer-in-Charge Rosario Afuang, * Minister Louis Alferez, and * Third Secretary Emmanuel Guzman. The DFA noted Fulham FC is one of the English Premier League's oldest and most prestigious clubs. According to its website, Fulham's long history began back in 1879 "with some Sunday-school boys knocking a ball around on a long-forgotten park pitch." Fulham's honors include: Football League Division One: 2000-2001 (Champions) Football League Division Two: 1948-1949; 1998-1999 (Champions) Football league Division Three (South): 1931-1932 (Champions) Football Combination: 2001 (Champions) Football League Division Two: 1958-1959 (Runners-up) Football League Division Three: 1970-1971 (Runners-up); 1981-1982 (Third Place); 1996-1997 (Runners-up) UEFA Europa League Finalists: 2010 Inter Toto Cup Winners: 2002 FA Cup Finalists: 1975 FA Cup Semi-Finalists: 1908; 1936; 1958; 1962; 2002 Anglo Scottish Cup Finalists: 1975 Football recently gained foothold in the Philippines as the "Azkals" national football team became very popular among Filipinos. - VVP, GMA News www.gmanetwork.com/news/story/249727/pinoyabroad/pinoy-execs-eye-teamup-with-fulham-football-club-in-promoting-phl-tourism

Some speculations coming in:
1) With the Philippine delegation invited for a meeting with Fulham at Craven Cottage, this increases the possibility that they are interested to have a friendly here.
2) Queens Park Rangers have expressed interest to "invade the Philippine football scene."
3) According to Rick Olivares, people at Stallions FC are working on bringing over Real Madrid C (U21 reserves team playing in the Tercera Division) to Manila for an exhibition match.
4) The Vietnam NT is still doubtful for having a friendly in the Philippines, having recently turned down an invite last October. Still can't get over the 2010 Suzuki Cup loss?
5) Since it will be the European off-season this time, an influx of new Euro-Pinoy players might drop by in the PI for tryouts. Would we see the likes of Kevin Ingreso, Luke Woodland, and even our fellow Gerardo de Clercq trying out? Not to mention new Euro-Pinoys plying their trade in the UFL?
What are you speculating for the upcoming matches?

Here is my speculation/wish/idea: Depending on how much money PFF wants to spend, I think for the Independence Day Cup, we should make it like the Long Teng format(it probably is already). Lets make it so a National Team will not only get FIFA points if they win, lets invite teams on our "relative" level and lets use our "new" recruits and "younger" players and have Weiss coach them in the same way he teaches our more senior team/player. Players like Van Bossche, Marasigan/Verheye, Barbaso, Valmayor, Beloya, Mark Hartmann, Clarino, Basa, Leonora and even senior team second stringers like Burkey, Moy, Doctora and maybe come back player Freddy Gonzalez Integration of "new" players like Wolf, Reichelt(?) Omphroy(?) Antonio de Murga(?) Lets make it a training type competition for them but also a tournament that we can get FIFA points of off AND train the up and coming players too. Maybe teams like Timor Leste, Maldives, Guam, Taiwan, Cambodia. Not necessarily "power houses" but strong enough to demand full training and play from the coaches and players.

Wait, wait. First time I'm hearing of an "Antonio De Murga". Who is he? Carli's brother? What position does he play?

I think friendlies against Laos and Cambodia are good matches for the team Wiking mentioned above. And start getting local GKs like Camcam and Pascual some good training. Teams we struggled with in recent times include Myanmar and Maldives. These are good friendlies for our second stringers to go up against. Let's not get the Challenge Cup success go to our heads. Even with the tournament's team I think we'd struggle against the likes of Singapore, Vietnam, and Indonesia. And I think we'd lose to Thailand. Still a lot of work to do.

Yes, Antonio "Junior" de Murga is Carli's older brother. According to my sources, he played midfield before he was recently injured.
Good idea, Caz. That could be a tune-up for them for the qualification stage as the lower-seeds of the Suzuki Cup. And we should put our young players get into shape. They should do it before plying their trade in the 2013 AFC U-22 Asian Championship qualifiers later in June.

[/quote] Ahh, yes. Pardon for not reading the whole thread carefully, and the post in particular. A slip, Freudian perhaps. The delegation is of Foreign Affairs officials. That's good. Very good. But not the same as PFF officials. I suspect that's how it goes with the language of diplomacy. First send the diplomats all cheerie, and then later meet up with those who want to get down to business. I'd like to see the PFF meet up with Fulham, and better yet with the FA just like they did with the DFA (Germany). Now that would be exciting.

Is the "Independence Day Cup" the next competition for the NT?
Mods, can we get an updated list of schedules on the Azkal's schedule thread, please? Whenever we get more details of course.
TIA!
