Singapore is really preparing their squad by playing majority of thier NT players in the Malaysian League as the Singapore 12. And they are currently 3rd in the League though most of their best players are injured and the likes of Duric are still playing in the S-League. But i believe they are still beatable with a proper and prepared squad. There is nothing in the recent news articles that Singapore will be going to Philippines.

AZKALS COACH EAGER TO PLAY CHINABy Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Thu, 22 Mar 2012 Azkaleros' counterpart in Chinese footballPhilippine Azkals coach Michael Weiss is eager to face China in a Philippine Independence Day match at the Rizal Memorial Stadium on June 12 as part of a possible three-game stint with teams from Indonesia, Vietnam or Thailand on June 5 and 8 which are FIFA playdates. Weiss welcomed the initiative of Philippine Football Federation president Mariano “Nonong” Araneta and Azkals team manager Dan Palami in arranging the matches. Weiss said “this is very good” even as he welcomed the plan to play one game, possibly against Vietnam or Thailand, in Bacolod City which is a hotbed of football. Weiss said the Azkals “will be very strong” since the lineup will include Stephan Schrock, Dennis Cagara, Jerry Lucena. Paul Mulders and Neil Etheridge and possibly Manny Ott reinforcing the bronze medal winners in the recently concluded AFC Challenge Cup where explosive striker Phil Younghusband scored six goals to win the coveted “Golden Boot” award. Weiss told the Manila Standard that he had coached China’s under 20 squad some eight years ago and “I know all these players and perhaps eight or nine players will be from the under 20 pool.” The Azkals coach said China “is a very good team, no question” even though they failed to qualify for the World Cup in Brazil in 2014, finishing third in their group behind Iraq and Jordan although they beat Jordan 3-1 in a no-bearing game. Meantime, Weiss said that one of the reasons for the Philippine Azkals failing to make it to the Challenge Cup finals aside from the absence of key players Jason Sabio, James Younghusband and Angel Guirado in the semi final game against Turkmenistan which the Philippines lost 2-1 after holding on to a 1-0 lead going into the 80th minute, was “the lack of physical fitness.” He said “the only reason why this is there is because I don’t have a team which was promised us from the 9th of January until the end of the tournament more or less with some adjustments for club commitments which is understandable, but it never happened like that.” Weiss lamented the fact that from January 9 to the departure for Dubai on February 7 he had the team for “not more than six to eight days.” The German coach said that during the Dubai training camp “we were able to work a little bit on physical fitness but I was readying them for match fitness there. I gave them three hard matches and they performed very well, they had to play defensively strong and we pushed through it. We got a little physical fitness there, but not too much.” He noted that when they returned from Dubai “some players like Angel Guirado and his brother and Carli de Murga had to immediately play a league match and they had no holiday whatsoever.” Weiss said despite the lack of preparation they achieved a minor miracle in Nepal under difficult circumstances even as he stressed that “if we had the preparation like I had last year, we would have played in the finals (in Nepal) and played in top fashion.”

We got something to be proud of and to be excited this June PHILIPPINES TO PLAY CHINA TO MARK INDEPENDENCE DAYMarch 24, 2012 MANILA (25 March 2012) – The Philippines national team has drawn up a friendly match against China as part of their celebration to mark the Philippine Independence Day on 12 June 2012 at the Rizal Memorial Stadium. Mariano Araneta, the president of the Philippines Football Federation (PFF) said that the match against China is but just a string of friendlies they have planned for the month of June. “We want to bring back the Chinese crowd,” said Araneta, referring to the major supporters of football in the 1960s and 1970s. “Other than China, we are also looking at games against Indonesia on 5 June 5 in Manila, and against Thailand or Vietnam on 8 June, probably in Bacolod City.” www.aseanfootball.org/?p=7959&utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter

Hmm.. From what I see, there will be no Independence Cup, but instead just a series of friendlies. Whatever happens in June, Azkals will be gaining experience, which we all want them to have.

It's wise to retain entire Azkals team from AFCBy Olmin Leyba (The Philippine Star) Updated March 25, 2012 12:00 AM Comments (0) View comments MANILA, Philippines - No new faces are due to join the Azkals soon as coach Michael Weiss prefers to maintain the bunch that won the bronze medal in the recent AFC Challenge Cup plus six foreign-based old-timers who were just unavailable for that milestone run in Nepal. “There’s now rising interest (from Fil-foreign players) all over the world but we’re now in a lucky position not to take (in) anyone who just has overseas background; we can now look strictly for quality. (But) I’m already happy with the squad we have,” Weiss said in an interview on DZSR yesterday. The German mentor said he would love to assemble the crew that bonded together since their pre-Challenge Cup training camp in Dubai, led by Golden Boot awardee Phil Younghusband and his brother James, Chieffy Caligdong, Paul Mulders, Neil Etheridge, Jason Sabio, Carli de Murga, Marwin Angeles, and the Guirado brothers Angel and Juani. Reinforced by Europe-based pros Denis Wolf, Jerry Lucena, Dennis Cagara, Stephan Schrock, Manny Ott and Roland Muller, the Azkals should be good to roll in the next battles ahead, noted Weiss. “Denis Wolf, if he can get his passport, hopefully will be with us for good. I wish to work mainly with the squad that was together in Dubai plus Lucena, Cagara, Schrock, Ott and our second keeper Muller. If we have these players together, we should have a very, very fantastic group,” he said. The Azkals broke camp after their breakthrough finish and Weiss said he expects those locally-based nationals to get back together for twice-a-week practices by middle or end of April. By May 20-30, he expects the foreign-based footballers to come over and join the team for a camp in either Tagaytay or Cebu, preparatory to a series of Fifa international friendlies eyed in June. The Philippine Football Federation has invited Indonesia for June 5, either Vietnam or Thailand for June 8 fixture in Bacolod, and powerhouse China for the Independence Day gig on June 12. “That’s in the pipeline now. I hope we get confirmation (from these nations) quite soon to start our scouting and preparations for these important matches,” Weiss said. Weiss described the Challenge Cup podium finish as “the biggest achievement so far in the history of Phl football.” “We’re now considered real serious contenders and we can invite high-profile teams to the Philippines,” said Weiss. www.philstar.com/sportsarticle.aspx?articleid=790801&publicationsubcategoryid=69

Two months ago :
"According to Araneta, they are sending invites to the Vietnam and Singapore national teams, and Fulham, Queens Park Rangers and Blackburn Rovers to play the national team in Manila during this two-week long invitational torunament."
And now it`s Indonesia , Thailand /Vietnam and China , but they only sent invitations and they have not got any match confirmed.
I wish PFF could be more prefessional and do like other FA`s , announce matches when they are confirmed !

You don't announce anything unless they are closed deals. It just makes them look foolish by throwing all these names ahead of time and none of them come to fruition. Not to mention it sets a very high expectation from the public. They could have just easily said "we are talking to a number of FAs and clubs" and leave it at that.

Not to mention it sets a very high expectation from the public. They could have just easily said "we are talking to a number of FAs and clubs" and leave it at that. Speaking of, they need to have a sort of "mouthpiece" or someone that "officially" communicates with the press/public. At this point we have to read it from that so called "official" Azkals website or from different PFF officials. I don't think they realize how important it is for the fans to know whats in store for the NT yet. But I think its just that the "new" PFF has not matured yet compared to other FA's. I'm sure they'll get better at it... but please do it soon! Btw, I read that article stellarboy posted, last night, did anyone notice that he did not mention, long time NT veteran Jason de Jong, instead opting to include Manny Ott who, with contract probs, probably wont be as available as much as JdJ? How can Weiss exclude a guy who's always tried to be there more than some other? Yes, I do get concerned w/ his propensity for rough and somewhat late tackles, but thats a function of maturity, something he'll grow into still! Are there underlying reasons perhaps?

Kahit no Independence Cup as long as PHI will use the 2 week friendly match dates set by FIFA it's ok Kahit Spratly Cup pa tawag jan eh bwahaha kung mga magkakalaban PHI, CHN, MAS, VIE, BRU at TPE XD ;D But PHI and CHN will be the climax of the friendlies. I think it's coincidence because they want to schedule PHI vs CHN on Jun 12, our Independence Day
